We have one of the prime units in Plantation Hale, a quaint, two-story, laid-back condo complex with a superb location right across the street from the beach. Our closest neighbors are :
* The Plantation Marketplace, a charming outdoor complex of shops and restaurants
* The Beachboy Hotel, with it's highly rated Hukilau Lanai restaurant and spa
* Islander on the Beach
* The Kilauea Fishmarket, the go-to place for delicious fresh fish sandwiches, wraps and entrees
* Hyatt Garden Inn will be started this year.
And one of the very best things about our place is it's proximity to Ke Ala Hele Makalae, an eleven mile gorgeous path along the ocean for bikers, walkers and joggers.

About Micki Evslin
We have lived on Kauai for the past forty years, but grew up in New York. Between then and now, we also lived in Vermont, Maine, Mexico and Guam. We have been married for 47 years (started dating in high school!) and have 4 children and eight grandchildren, most of whom -- yea! --- also live on Kauai. Micki is an artist/designer who currently owns a store on Kauai, KIKO:simple goods (www.kikokauai.com). She was the former co-owner of the Sotheby's real estate office on Kauai. She is also a yoga teacher who doesn't teach and an artist who doesn't have time to create much. Bill is a retired pediatrician and hospital administrator. He is currently working on a book about consciousness. They currently live just a few blocks from the condo because they love the island's Coconut Coast.
Why Micki Evslin chose Wailua
Plantation Hale has always appealed to us not only because of it's low profile and old -timey feel, but also because it is fabulously located without the high price tag of its more ritzy neighbors. A long stretch of white sand beach is located right across the street (you walk through a meadow) from our unit. Plantation Hale's immediate neighbors are The Coconut Marketplace (full of shops and restaurants), The Marriot, The Islander Hotel, The Kauai Coast Resort and the soon-to-be-built Hyatt. Each of these hotels also has restaurants and some have spas, all within an easy walk of our unit.
What makes this Condo unique
As soon as we bought the unit in the summer of 2016, we did an extensive remodel. I believe we are the only owners who removed the top cabinets that obstructed the view from the kitchen. We also removed a large floor to ceiling cabinet near the entry. This opened up the living room/kitchen area, making it feel much more spacious and inviting. Everything was either replaced, recarpeted or retiled. It now has a happy, fresh, open, tropical feel.

Comfortable condo in good location
Micki's condo is well appointed and equipped, as well as clean and comfortable. The king bed has a very good mattress and the large lanai overlooks a pleasant view of greenspace and the ocean in the distance. Micki and her husband were most helpful in answering our questions and promptly attended to an issue that we had with the toilet. The complex as a whole is well maintained and very secure and we used the communal barbecue numerous times. Weather wasn't conducive to using the pool but it looked well maintained and clean. Plantation Hale is well situated with the Coconut Marketplace, various restaurants and Longs Drugs within easy walking distance. The town of Kapa'a is a short drive and has good shopping. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
Thanks for taking the time to write a lovely review! You were wonderful guests and we would love to have you return.
Sorry about the weather. I feel personally respinsible for it sometimes.
Perfect One-Bedroom Condo
Spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated, the condo is great for a couple. Thanks, Micki.
You're very welcome!
Very clean and very comfortable
The condo itself is very nice and we enjoyed it. Very up to date and clean. Only thing I wished it had was a full sized coffee maker. As far as the complex goes, it’s a bit over secured. There’s at least 3 security guards on property at all times. I’m pretty sure there main job is to make sure you have no drinks in the pool areas. That includes sparkling water in a can! So if you like a cocktail with your evening hot tub, ( like we do), forget it! There are 3 Webber grills in the property and they function so so. You won’t be searing any steaks a 600 deg. Overall we would stay again.
I’m so sorry you found the security off-putting, but equally glad you liked our condo.
I have no control over the Weber grills, but will definitely pass your comment onto the management. Ocean air is not kind to anything metal and it sounds like it’s time they get replaced.
Home away from home!
We really enjoyed our stay in this updated condo, which is spotless and is equipped with pretty much everything you need while on vacation and the bed was so comfortable - a treat you don’t often get!
Situated on the east side of the Island, the condo is in a perfect location from which to explore Kauai, not to mention you can see the ocean from the lanai!
The owners are truly lovely people and were a pleasure to deal with, every step of the way. We know where we’ll stay if we make it back to Kauai!
Aww ... thanks! What a super review!
Very clean and comfortable.
Micki was great to work with when we needed a bit of flexibility on arrival time.
Beautiful clean location near the beach and Kapaa is a fabulous town
Close to beach and Market aa well as restaurants and the town of Kapaa
We are centrally located on the Coconut Coast on the East Side of Kauai in the town of Kapaa. This location allows you to travel to either end of the island in about an hour and a half. Most people will want to spend a good deal of time at our wonderful, white sand beaches. You can usually find one all to yourself almost any day of the week, including the one right across the street from us. More populated beaches within a mile or so offer snorkeling and/or surfing. Kapaa is the only town on the island with an oceanside bike path, one of Kauai's most popular tourist activities (also walkable). It's our favorite thing to do on the island, and we bike it almost every day. Kapaa has wonderful international restaurants (Thai, Indian, Japanese, Italian, etc.) and a world famous public golf course, situated right on the ocean. Kapaa is also home to Opaekaa Falls, The Wailua River (and boat trip to the Fern Grotto where you'll hear an unforgettable Hawaiian wedding song), Hawaiian heiau (ancient ruins), the Hindu monastery, the arboretum, Smith's Tropical Paradise gardens, hula show and luau, the Coconut Marketplace, Lydgate Park and playground and any number of shops, including mine, KIKO: simple goods! Every first Saturday evening of the month, Kapaa celebrates with a street fair! There are, food booths, music, street performers, lots of people selling art and crafts and most of the stores stay open. It's very festive with locals and tourists alike partaking in the fun. Hikers will love hiking Nonou Mountain (the Sleeping Giant) or any number of hikes in the mountains behind town. They range from flat walks to strenuous uphill climbs, and the scenery is always spectacular.
