This renovated and adorable "Gingerbread House" is a studio cottage nestled amongst beautiful trees and tropical flowers and an organic farm growing Turmeric, Ginger, Papaya, Tangerines, Avocado, Oranges, Lemons, Grapefruit, Macadamia Nuts, Lychee, coffee and tropical flowers. The cottage is a "tiny home" (220 sq ft) but has high ceilings with a huge window looking out onto the majestic trees. Fully equipped kitchenette, beautifully tiled bathroom, and cedar lined walls. There is internet inside the cottage as well as 3 other systems accessible ON the property both indoors and out that is available to you. We are located in a gulch/valley so cell service is better in some spots on the property than others. We use our cell phones almost exclusively without issue. The kitchenette is has a coffee maker, microwave, burners, toaster oven and full sized fridge. The bathroom is beautifully tiled and the entire cottage is lined with cedar. There is a seasonal stream flowing just 50 feet from the cottage with a great spot to sit and sip on coffee or well as an outside table and lanai with a chiminea (outdoor fire chimney). The Cottage has a queen sized bed. On the adjacent property is The Sacred Garden (free and open to the public) that is a beautiful sanctuary and nursery with two labyrinths, meditation gardens, picnic accessible to our guests. Jimi Hendrix stayed her in 1970 when he was on Maui filming "Rainbow Bridge". The previous owner was a big wave surfer that Jimi was partying with while on Maui.... We also have a 5 bedroom genuine log house on the property that is also a vacation rental if you have a larger group and want to stay on the property. This property will feel like you are "away from it all" when you are actually only minutes from shops and restaurants. Makawao Town is just 2 miles away, Haiku Town 3 miles, Paia town about 6 miles and the airport (and Costco) is just 15-20 minutes. There is a beautiful beach about 12 minutes drive away, great hiking 10 minutes away and Haleakala National Park is just 50 minutes from here. We are located at about 1100 feet in elevation so it is 10 degrees cooler than sea level which makes it perfect weather nearly all year round. (60's at night, 60-80's in the day). We are on the boarder of the "wet side" which makes for lots of be rainy at certain cozy, green, lush and you can almost always drive to where it is not raining. The best of both worlds. We are happy to assist you with planning or booking other activities/massages. We are affiliated with personal and spiritual growth practitioners, life coaches and relationship educators if you would like more of a retreat experience. The Sacred Garden also offers meditations on Sunday morning and full moon labyrinth walks monthly.

Amazing time in Makawao! The property is beautiful, private and has an authentic Hawaii feel. The Gingerbread house was super clean and bed/linens cozy. The hosts are welcoming and have great recommendations. Loved our stay—new favorite place on Maui.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay. House is perfect for a couple and we enjoyed the animals making their rounds throughout the property each day. Eve was an outstanding hostess and made sure we had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay. If we get to Maui again, we will definitely stay in the Gingerbread House again.
The Gingerbread House is a delightful cottage on a beautiful property in upcountry Maui. We had everything we needed for our stay, and our hosts, Eve and Steve, couldn’t have been more kind or welcoming. We hope to come back soon.
The "gingerbread house" is perfect for two. Just enough kitchen to cook, nice big bathroom, comfy bed and lots of handy amenities. Located at Sacred Garden, it has lovely surroundings, quiet and safe, close to lots of great Upcountry and North Shore attractions, we'd stay again. This is countryside Hawai'i, so be used to visits by chickens, ducks, geckos, pets etc. Almost everything we needed, from beach towels to coffee was ready to go. Always a good place to come home to after seeing the rest of Maui!
My wife and I stayed in the Gingerbread House for a week in June. Eve welcomed us and helped us get oriented with the area, even suggesting places to visit and restaurants to check out. She was very quick to respond to questions. The location of the Gingerbread House itself is generally located in the middle of Maui away from the resorts, where we were able to enjoy a more authentic Hawaiian experience. The grounds are beautiful, and the house had everything we needed for a lovely stay. Very comfortable.
The beauty of this property was only matched by Eve's hospitality. Every detail (and then some) was thought out. We felt so safe and even more comfortable. The location was perfect which allowed us to explore the whole island. The Sacred Garden added another level of tranquility and the animals (especially Kumu) truly tempered missing our animals back at home. This property is unreal and we both agreed that this was our best vacation ever. My only regret with this rental is that we didn't stay longer. Thanks again Eve & Steve, we'll be back!
We could not have asked for a more welcoming host or delightful setting for our final days on Maui. The house was cozy, super clean, comfortable, and well-equipped for our stay. We enjoyed using the BBQ to grill locally grown veggies, and the chiminea made for a wonderful evening in this gorgeous setting. Sipping tea outside each morning while listening to the sounds of the birds soothed our souls. Many thanks to Eve for making us feel so welcome!

The property seemed very secluded and the property manager was quite responsive-providing updates and battery-operated lighting.
Our visit of five nights corresponded to flash floods in Maui that actually only covered about two of the five days that we stayed. The flooding was invigorating and only a little bit scary but the unpleasant down-side was power outages that hit off and on during our last two nights. Management went above and beyond.
This cabin is the most peaceful and beautiful place we could find to stay on Maui! Such a comfortable space with everything you need. Great host! Thank you!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Gingerbread House. Located in upcountry, it's the perfect place to stay to get away from the crowds and bustle close to the coast. We loved sitting outside at nights with the cool wind and quietness of the property. During the day, I enjoyed walking around the farm looking at all of the birds and fruit trees. The chickens were very happy to see us as I guess they've been fed before. I was a little unnerved at first as they got really close, but they never got aggressive and were a source of amusement.
The house is exactly as it's depicted on the site. It's small and cozy and perfect for two people. The cedar walls give it a great aroma. Upon arrival, we looked through the very helpful book with the rules for our stay and recommendations for local restaurants and attractions. Coming from Atlanta, we were a little worried that with no A/C it might get warm at night; there was nothing to worry about! The nights were very cool and the ceiling fan kept the air moving. The bed was super comfortable and my wife LOVED the bathroom.
And I be remiss to say that one of the highlights of the trip was meeting the owner's golden retriever, Kumu. She was so happy and friendly and made missing our dogs a little easier.
We'd definitely stay here again!

Beautiful getaway!
Wonderful little cottage, in a beautiful green setting close to Makawoa and Paia, complete with lovely hosts. It was a great location to spend time, and also a great launch pad from which to explore the road to Hana and Haleakala. I would definitely recommend it :)

Secluded, Quiet, Cozy Cabin
Beautiful surroundings, we spent time walking around the grounds, including lots of time spent at the Sacred Garden. Cabin had everything we needed, and the wifi (though not essential) was nice to have and mostly reliable. Eve was great, enjoyed talking with her. Will book again for sure.

Why they chose this property
Plain and simple, this property is sacred. You will feel it the minute you step onto the land. It is an incredibly unique property in that you can't see any neighbors (not even the other cottage on the property from the house, so you feel like you are AWAY from it all out in the middle of no where, but you are just minutes to all the modern conveniences and attractions Maui has to offer. This is agricultural property so we are passionate about growing food and flowers. We are happy to educate you and share with you our bounty. So many come to Maui to relax, unplug and get end up staying in Touristville, surrounded by people, activity and "more of the same" just in a beach setting. Here you will truly feel like you have ventured "away" heaven, to be precise.....
What makes this property unique
We lived in the heat of Kihei for many, many years and while access to the beautiful beaches was a plus, the traffic, the nearby neighbors, the noise of residential communities, was not what either of us was hoping for in a move to Hawaii. We wanted to experience the country, the lush tropical beauty, to grow our own food, to wake up grateful every single day. When we were blessed to purchase the property next door to the Sacred Garden Retreat, we were ecstatic. When the adjacent property came adorable, with the charming log house and the adorable 1930's Gingerbread House studio cottage that Jimi Hendrix stayed in in 1970 when he was on Maui filming "Rainbow Bridge" couldn't resist. This expanded our capacity to farm, to educate and to share this beautiful property with others.
