Enjoy a week in paradise in our modern private screen house floating in the embrace of three spectacular monkeypod trees (‘ohai in Hawaiian). Located 45 minutes south of Hilo in the Puna district, Hale ‘Ohai is an elegant sanctuary, a place to rest and reflect, a place to gather for special occasions, a place from which to explore and discover The Big Island of Hawaii.
Come visit soon! Enjoy the nearby clothing optional beach where dolphins spin and frolic with hardy swimmers, hike to the lava by moonlight, snorkel at the tide pools, swim in the crater lake, indulge in a watsu massage. Dine out or come home to the fully equipped kitchen and your choice of dining counter or Noguchi table. Take in the view of the monkeypod tree canopied garden as you relax in the screened living room with two full-sized, firm sofa beds or on the sun drenched 500 square foot deck just outside the porch doors.
As the sun sets, you’ll be ready to spiral down the lava-red staircase to your choice of two king size master bedrooms where you can have your own island dreams. Sleep in comfort on memory foam mattresses and 500 thread count sheets. At sunrise, awaken to bird song in the kipuka, then start your day Puna style: a warm outdoor shower, yoga on the lanai, a walk to the beach, and a cup of hot tea or freshly ground and brewed coffee.

We did a short, two day trip from Oahu, to the Big Island. We chose the Treehouse because of the location and the house, and they both exceeded expectations. From the moment we contacted the owners they were extremely responsive in helping us secure the place and answer questions. The house itself is peaceful and inviting. It gives you a sense of living in a forest but with all the customary amenities and more. The location is great because it is right in the heart of Puna and you really experience the lava-- something I could never really get my head around until seeing it. The are many other excellent things to do close by like the beach, the volcano, and the tide pools.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

What an incredible home you have in Puna! Not only is the house itself a work of art, but the beautiful grounds are also amazing. It was so much fun sleeping and showering with the natural beauty all around (and the coqui frogs)! It was such a peaceful and wonderful vacation! We will definately suggest your home to our friends! Thanks so much for the great hospitality... ALOHA!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2

Paul and Mike, Thank you for a wonderful week in your stylish Hawaiian Modern home. We love the design and the location. It made a great base for us while looking for property to buy nearby. Maybe we'll be neighbors one day!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

There are so many things I love about Puna—the absolute getaway from touristic Hawaii, Kahena Beach, the dolphins and whales, the community and my growing circle of friends there. This trip I was especially excited, anticipating my stay in your terrific new home. I wasn't disappointed. The complete openness of the living room is amazing, truly a tree house set amongst the magnificent monkey pods. The downstairs bedrooms, maintaining the intimate connection with the outdoors, yet so private. I love the outdoor showers! I very much enjoyed inviting people over to share the experience over a cup of tea or a romantic dinner. The kitchen is great; the light, the space, continuous breezes—all wonderful. One afternoon it rained, and I was surprised to be even more enthralled by the sense of being outside, yet sheltered. Thanks so much for sharing your tree house!Did you find this review helpful? I love your house, especially the feeling of peace sitting in the living room or deck looking out under your monkey pod tree and garden. A special treat for me was doing my daily mind/body integration movement practice on your deck every morning under the moon and the rising sun. Thanks for a beautiful place to relax and unwind.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
