  My family and I stayed here for one month over the holidays. This house is very spacious and has a great outdoor sitting area where we spent most of our time. The gazebo at the back is nice for view the monkey's (visited us daily in Dec). It got quite a bit warmer in Jan., and we did not see them as much then. The pool was great for cooling off, as well the bedrooms offered A/C. This spot is very private and although not within comfortable walking distance to restaurants it was about a 5 minute drive down. Jenell was a huge help in recommending local beaches and restaurants. She was always available via email if we had any problems. The wifi signal is a bit weak, but sufficient. The beaches nearby were stunning! Our favorite was Ventanas with the caves and great swimming for the kids. We also loved the restaurant Villa Leonor which offered delicious food and access to the beach with your meal (rather than the park entrance fee). We did our food shopping in Uvita (about 10-15 minute drive), but there was a small mini-super in Ojochal. If you are looking for peace and quite (other than the Toucans and howlers), and an amazing view to wake up to each morning this house is the one! A great value!

  What better time to write a review than while I am still here and everything is fresh in my mind. After almost a month we leave [reluctantly] in two days. The stay here has been completely as advertised, Jerry the owner, has done a remarkable job of having absolutely anything and everything that you could possibly need or want while staying here. We have travelled considerably, and it is refreshing to find a place where everything works and was immaculately clean upon our arrival. The cleanliness is thanks to the property manager, Jenell and her staff...what a quality group. Jenell was fantastic in her job, she was always immediately available to respond to any needs or questions, she even baked a cake...and later stopped by with some cinnamon rolls for us. She and her husband John have a plethera of historical knowledge on the area and were a pleasure to spend time with. The house itself is great, very roomy, lots of ceiling fans [that you need], A/C in the bedrooms, pool is fantastic, has SKY TV and great internet. My computer worked fine, a Majic Jack is nice to have for calling back to the states for free [and it worked fine]. There were some very minor issues with power outages, but they never lasted long and the utility company responded well. Part of the issue is we are here in the beginning of the rainy season, so that contributes to some of the power problems. There are several really good restaurants in the nearby area, don't be deceived by the exterior appearances, the sanitary conditions in these facilities is remarkable, and the owners and staff some of the friendliest in the world. You can eat gourmet and spend $30 - $50/ea or go "Tico" and have their famous Casados [a complete meal of fish, chicken or beef, rice, black beans, salad, pasta in tomato sauce and a slice of plantain] for $4 - $6. I highly recommend Mamma e Papa's for Italian & pizza, Citrus is a classy place and for a superb filet mignon or just a burger [and the absolute best fries] stop at the Roadhouse. I was surprised at the lack of insects at the house, of course there are multitudes of small, green "house geckos", which are totally harmless and do a great job of keeping the insect population at bay. The toucans will be your alarm clock every morning...early, and if you're lucky you will hear [and see] the howler monkeys on their way to wherever, along with some white faced. You will enjoy your stay...and tell Jerry and/or Jenell, Danny and Carol sent you.

  This area of the country really speaks to us. This is a great area of the world to hide away for a while. Our stay at the casa was our second. This year we stayed the whole month of August. Four blissful weeks of just me, my husband and our two girls. The inground pool is wonderful and we spent most of our time at home this year. The house is air conditioned in the bedrooms so when it gets too hot there is relief. The water is hot and the kitchen has everything you need to cook gourmet meals. Jenell the caretaker I have come to think of as a friend and we are already talking about coming back next year. If you want to get off the grid this is the place to go. However, Jerry the owner is more than happy to provide you with all the conveniences of wi-fi, tv and music. He has a great music collection and lots of movies to watch so you never really need to leave the house. Except when your need the beach or food! At the risk of upping the competition I'll also add Jerry's rental prices are very fair and compared to neighboring houses without a doubt the best deal in town! Many thanks to Jerry and Jenell for your hospitality and our home away from home. We will be back again.

  For the second time à la Casa de Tropicale , it is like a coming back home... The house is clean , with everything we need for living and for comfort..Swimming pool just perfect for any time of day . If you like to cook, downtown Ojochal is within 6 minutes by car. There you will find a bakery ( fresh break ) , meat store , market with all your needs, for fresh fish , every tuesdays and fridays a fisherman comes at the intersection of panamerica route and the road down the house... And try local food ( pescado frito ) and look carefully because some locals have tables in front of their houses so they can make you real good meals... Most nicest beaches are not far : Tortuga , Ventana , Ballena , Pinuela , Uvita are within 15 minutes and less from la Casa... And the most important is around the house : sounds of nature , lots of pictures to take : birds, trees, butterflies, flowers and magnificents views all around.. A lot to remember..If you like dogs , little Megan will come and see you , all white with blue eyes like no others...she won't disturb you if you don't want.. but if you don't mind she is cuty...We just hope to go back a third time and more..That place is perfect for nature lovers .

  Great house! Jenell the caretaker was amazing. We spent nearly three weeks at Casa de la Tropicale great views; warm pool; beautiful views; air conditioning! Wonderful place to bring kids. The roads are not for the skittish. There is no room service or pizza delivery. However if you want to get a taste of what living in Costa Rica is really like this is the place for you! Three weeks was not enough and we will be back next year. So many wonderful people; beaches; waterfalls; flora; fauna; restaurants; a little something for everyone. You can be as active as you want to be or not! I'm hooked!!

  This house is everything and more than what it says it is. Jenell the property manager is an angel and full of information. She was a blessing especially since this was my first trip to Costa Rica and I was alone. I always felt safe and the grounds are beautiful. Jerry is thoughtful and extremely helpful in so many ways with recommendations and suggestions. Ojochal is in a perfect location for accessability to so many locations ie Quepos/Manuel Antonio, Uvita, San Isidro and Dominical to name a few. You will definately feel comfortable and at home. Only thing missing were some chaise lounges by the pool.

  Hi Jerry, Our stay was enjoyable. The house and property were great. There were a few hiccups, but I think you knew about both. It really didn't bother us or our feelings about the place. The only recommendation we would suggest for future visitors is, a heads up about the roads to the house. We would definitely get an all wheel/ four wheel drive vehicle for this time of year (rainy/low season) and for this location. Maybe people just presume this but we didn't know and it was a challenge as far as the driving conditions. Other than that we enjoyed the place. It was an awsome location and we would definitely stay there again. Cheers and we hope you have had a nice holiday season. Jonathan and Lisa

  We have just moved to Ojochal for good and we stayed La Casa De Tropicale as we began our search for our own piece of paradise. I'm afraid this place raised the bar for us. While there may be no ocean views this property is bounded on two sides by dense jungle and a rippling stream. On the other two sides are expansive views of the valley and surrounding mountains of Ojochal. Unbelievable views and wildlife shows. Toucans, parrots, finches, butterflies, hummingbirds by the thousands. Then there's the regular parade of white face and howler monkeys that make their way through the trees. Very private and very peaceful. Highly recommend

  Wonderful Wet Season! By Mia Ashmus (Wisconsin, USA) This past August, my fiance, son, and I spent nearly two weeks here in Ojochal at La Casa De Tropicale. You will not be disappointed with this gem of property in Costa Rica, it is nothing but sheer relaxation and plenty of room for 3 to 4 people. Located on top of high hill/mountainside the view is magnificent and these pictures do it no justice! The property was well kept, and there is plenty of wildlife lurking to keep you at home nearly every day. Fully equipped for an avid cook, we enjoyed dining like the locals and grilling out nearly every night. I can't express how beautiful this place is, you will not be disappointed! Also there are fabulous beaches in the surrounding areas that will astound you, Costa Rica certainly captivated me, and I am glad we chose to rent this home rather than stay at a resort. We stayed in the wet season where everything was in full bloom...it was just AMAZING! Have no fear or doubt with renting this home, it is clean, well kept, and peaceful....everything that you could want out of a tropical vacation such as this!
