Adorable Cabin 'on the River' 45 Minutes from Atlanta
- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
If your looking for an ADORABLE CABIN,'on the river'....easy access to Atlanta and North Georgia THIS IS IT. The DECK is literally ..on the River! Sit down and just enjoy the sound of the river or go down and take time to do a little fishing or just curl up and read a good book!
The cabin is truly great with a living room and fireplace, nice master bedroom with bath, cute kitchen with 'Wolf' stove, small dining area. Please note that the cabin has an under the counter refrigerator. Also, it has two window unit air conditioners with ceiling fans. We usually have cool nights and pleasant days in the mountains, but check all the pictures and note what is and is not available.
There is a television for DVD's with a good selection. No cable. Most guests are not coming to the mountains to watch television and the cable isn't great in this area! LOT'S of books and magazines
Location is at the end of a dead end road, only woods directly across from the river and twenty minutes to the outlet mall, if shopping is your thing.
Ten minutes to the delightful town of Dahlonega where you can shop, dine in over 20 restaurants, canoe down the river, hiking trails galore, horseback riding less than two miles. OR...you can head to downtown Dahlonega and get your Starbucks fix. Stay for a weekend or come and hang out for a week! These locations are hard to find and you will love this beautiful 'hideaway'.

If you are looking for a 5 star hotel with room service and a view of the city at night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a place where you can sit for hours on end, feel the breeze on your face, hear the birds and bees all around you, and be put to sleep by the sound of a flowing river right outside your window, this is the place for you. This small cabin was just what my soul needed. I work in a very high-stress environment and needed to get away to refill my soul with peace and serenity. I took some books to read, but didn't read them. I took some movies to watch, but didn't watch them.. I found that I spent the majority of my time sitting on the deck finding my way back to me. I was able to reconnect with myself and came back to 'reality' feeling so much better than when I left. If you are looking for some quiet time for yourself or, if you have a loved one you want to re-connect with, this is the place for you. Go on, step away from the high-stress of everyday living and enjoy some time with nature. You won't regret it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Cheryl....you hit the nail on the head. This was exactly what I was trying to create and what the cabin had done for me....reconnect me to nature and to myself away from the hustle and craziness of everyday life. It is truly a joy to just BE and reconnect in such a beautiful way. I am SO glad you came and please come back soon. Anita

We've rented Anita's cabin a couple of times now and definitely plan to come back again. It has everything you need- great big porch, fully stocked kitchen for cooking, and really comfortable furnishings. I love the look and feel of it, and we feel right at home there! She also has netflix now which is great! Highly recommend!Owner response: Thanks! I love having repeat clients and have really tried to make the cabin feel like home away from home. Come back again soon!! Anita

Our second stay at this wonderful cabin. Very cozy, quiet, and peaceful. Also very tastefully decorated and the bed is quite comfortable. Would have given it an excellent rating if it had been warmer. It has a finiky gas fireplace you are instructed not to touch and a couple of small portable heaters. Chilli!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Andy! The gas logs really do heat up the cabin, but have to have some specific instructions due to the fact that some of the folks turn them OFF and then the pilot light has to be relit. It IS a small cabin and all and all stays pretty warm unless the temperatures drop to the 20's which is rare. I hope you will return again and I can be sure the logs are cut up a bit higher. Thanks so much for your business and your review! Anita

What a wonderful getaway! We live very busy lives. Your cabin was just what we needed to have some relaxing fun. We fished from the deck, listened to some music and watched the river flow. When it was time to come in for the evening, it was so lovely! The decor was PERFECT! Everything we needed was there. We felt like we were in a luxury cabin. Great job! Looking forward to a fall trip!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: The Whittaker Family, I am SO glad that you enjoyed your getaway. It really touches my heart when my guests feel connected to nature, to the cabin and leave with a sense of refreshment and renewal. PLEASE come back in the fall...it is SO beautiful in late September and October! Thanks again, Anita

Arrived to a very hot cabin Friday afternoon and since most of the windows have no blinds I placed a blanket over the one where the sun was shining in. Turned on all the ceiling fans and the one window unit in the bedroom and it did cool down. However, as soon as it did the gas logs in the fireplace came on! Signs were posted not to adjust the fireplace, so we were just stuck with the heat. Kitchen is also a big problem. Yes, it's stocked with Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and a very high-end stove, but there is only a sliver of a freezer. If you want ice for your drinks or to keep anything frozen you must bring a stocked cooler. Using the stove only increased the heat problem and it probably doesn't meet code seeing as you have to lean over sideways to use the oven. The farmer's sink was very nice and I'd like to have one in my own home, but the kitchen is so small you can't have someone cooking and cleaning at the same time. We could not get the grill to work. The flame only reached about an inch in height, so we figured the propane tank was getting low. Too bad it was installed backwards so we couldn't read the gauge and even if it had been out there was no replacement to be found. Finally, the cabin is overly decorated and leaves very little usable space for anything you bring. Tables and shelves are chocked full of books, magazines, baskets, bowls, artificial plantings, etc. so our stuff had to go on the floor. The owner said no one has *ever* complained of cabin being hot. I guess we were just unlucky. We came home early and she was nice enough to refund our last night (something she obviously didn't have to do). We won't be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners.
Owner response: I was really surprised at this review; however I have learned, you obviously can't please everyone. The really funny thing is that I had just spent two days at the cabin with two professional colleagues (executive coaches) and the temperature was perfect. It has been an incredibly warm March and anticipating a fairly warm weekend, I had called the handyman to go ahead and put in the window unit, even though we had spent the days and evenings in the cabin and it was extremely comfortable. When I said to this "person", I wished she had called, because myself or helper would have come right down and adjusted the fireplace and done whatever possible to be sure they were comfortable, she made it very clear she wasn't interested in "chit chatting" and would have been offended had I come by the cabin! I apologized profusely for her discomfort. Here are some facts…. the under counter refrigerator is clearly described in the cabin description, as is the stove and pictures of the cabin room-to-room. The grill DID have gas; however the gauge was turned backward. (The grill is brand new!) As to my decorating, this clearly is personal preference and matter of taste. Not apologizing for the selection of books and magazines. I did offer to refund her last night and clearly was not obligated to do so as she had left way after check-out time which is 11 a.m. and basically gave no notice…...it was just a gesture that said, sorry. I wished she had picked up the phone...but again, you just can't please everyone! My suggestions to all renters...please read descriptions and ALL the reviews to get the pros and cons of a property and what you may be looking for! This IS a cabin, not a four star hotel. I LOVE it and I want my guests to be comfortable and enjoy the peace and serenity of a small cabin sitting on a beautiful river that touches your soul. Always feel free to call and ask questions in advance. C’est la vie!

Sometimes the stress of everyday life becomes so overwhelming and when that happens we know it's time to contact Anita to reserve a weekend at the cabin. The moment we step in we become instantly relaxed. She has truly created a beautiful yet quaint little getaway that's perfect for two. This cabin has become a very special place for us and we hope it will be part of our weekend getaways for many years to come. PS: Even though the weekend we were there was one of the coldest on record (19 degrees!) we stayed nice and toasty warm sitting by the fire.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

I stayed at this lovely cabin for 4 nights the first week of Jan 2012. Even though it was really cold, I had a wonderful time. The cabin is just beautiful. It has everything you could possibly need. Anita has really thought of everything to make her guests comfortable. She even met me at the cabin when I arrived. A previous post talked about the propane heat. The nights I stayed there it got down into the teens. It was cold. However the propane heat was on an automatic temp control and came on and stayed on for most of the night. It really did a pretty good job of keeping the cabin warm. I used two other space heaters and did fine. I have a temp gauge on my LL Bean alarm clock and with the heaters and fireplace the bedroom was around 67 - 70 degrees at night. During the day I hiked the Desoto Falls, Dick Creek Falls and spent time in Dahlonega and Helen. My last day up in North Georgia I went to the Tullulah Falls State Park and Gorge - I HIGHLY recommend that anyone who visits goes. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. The location of the cabin really made it easy to get into the mountains, into town, to Helen, or anywhere I wanted to go. I've been sharing my vacation photos non stop since I got home and can't wait to return when it's warm. But warm or cold, this cabin and the North Georgia Mountains are worth the visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Angela you were a delight. Although it was the coldest nights of the year, you were a trooper and out seeing all the sites and having a great time. I was SO glad that you stayed an extra night. Since you left I added a 32" Flat Screen T.V., new lights outside and a few other goodies. I hope you will come back soon and stay longer. Good luck on your fabulous business and keep in touch. Anita P.S. Would love to have your parents come too!

The hubby and I decided to get away for the New Year's weekend with our dog. I've had my eye on this cabin for some time now so I was excited to see it was available. We spent 3 nights/4 days at Anita's cabin and enjoyed every minute of it. As some reviewers mentioned, it does tend to get a little chilly at night but luckily, there are plenty of blankets around. And if you decide to eat outdoors, which we did one night, the outdoor firepit is nice too. Our first night in town, we decided on dinner at "Monteluce," which turned out to be decent, but not "Atlanta quality" for the price. The next afternoon, we visited "Frogtown" and "Cavender Creek Vineyards" for a little wine tasting, just a short 5-10 minute drive away. We were very impressed with the quality of wine at both. "Frogtown" had some great wines to sample. I recommend the "08 Bravado" and the "08 Propoganda." "Cavender Creek," is a little "mom and pop" vineyard that offered complimentary tastings. The owners were so sweet and helpful. Both retired teachers, they got into the business for love of making wine, and it shows. We bought a bottle of the "09 Donkey Hotie Red" and the "Farmhouse Peach" white to save for a summer day. Take a drive and go visit them! We highly recommend it. We spent the cold and rainy days, curled up on the sofa, reading our books, with a good CD on in the background, while the dog sat at the door, begging to go out. Ha! Slightly unfortunate, we were stuck watching a badly produced webcast online New Year's Eve, sine there's no cable TV (only Netflix and Pandora). Normally that would never be an issue, however, it would have been nice to see the ball drop on a good TV network. Oh well! Thank goodness for WiFi. Overall, Anita has done a great job making the place feel cozy and special. The hubby has a difficult time sleeping in other beds but this one provided all the comfort we needed to get plenty of restful sleep. All of her small touches didn't go unnoticed either. The "Potter Barn" towels and dishes, the "Williams Sonoma" hand soaps and lotions, the "Wolf" stove, all of the antique decor - It was all very charming and made the cabin feel more like a home away from home. We've already begun talking about coming back in the summer, when it's a little warmer and we can all enjoy the outdoors a little more. Thanks again, Anita! Hope to be back in 6 months or so!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
