  Tomorrow we will check out of this wonderful cottage, but I wanted to note what a fantastic time we've had this week. Despite very chilly weather -- unusually cold for late March -- my family of five (three boys ages 11, 8 and 5) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pictures of the cottage really don't do it justice -- the decor is quite upscale (and I am admittedly a very picky consumer when it comes to rental properties), and it is furnished with everything needed for a comfortable stay. What cannot be matched, though, is the view. The house is situated to enjoy the river wildlife (many species of birds, dolphins, and the occasional kayaker!) from the screened porch, lower deck or upper deck off the master bedroom. You actually have a direct view of the river from the entire main living area. My family usually enjoys eating out many meals while on vacation, but we chose to eat at the cottage for every dinner except one. After active days of biking on the beach or on the resort trails, kayaking, or adventures farther afield, we were anxious to get back to the cottage to enjoy dinner with the sun setting over the river. Initially we were a bit concerned about not staying "inside the gate" of the resort, but we couldn't be more pleased with our location. It was a quick bike ride (totally safe with our boys) to Beachwalker Park which was our jumping off point for many beach adventures. We loved the privacy as well, not feeling like our neighbors were right on top of us. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at this lovely cottage and hope to be back in the near future!

  The cottage was very nice and the location was ideal, right on the river. My complaint is the palmetto bugs were very bad. Someone came and said they sprayed but I was there when they sprayed and they didn't do what I would consider a good job. We had bugs even after the spraying and I am talking about big bugs. We killed 8 bugs in 4 days after the spraying. We did not leave the doors open. I don't like worrying about bugs when I am sleeping. It is a shame because it is a nice cottage in a good location. We have stayed on Edisto and didn't see any bugs. We didn't even see bugs like this outside the cottage. I would have come here again if it wasn't for the bug problem and we left a day early because of it. I rated it average because of the bugs otherwise I would give it an excellent.

  I was pretty set on finding a place directly on the ocean but I must say this was an unbelievable setting, surrounding by gorgeous mature trees and a view of the river that not only included the beautiful birds but dolphins as frequent visitors. We rode our bikes to see the dolphins strand fishing which is one of the more unique experiences I've had in nature. The island was a paradise, gorgeous and without a lot of traffic. My oldest 21 year old son was looking for a bit more of a nightlife but this mom was happy without! The place was clean and comfortable.

  Stayed w our 3 year old for a weekend. Rented bikes and a short ride to beach or private pool. Also could bike to Freshfields market easily. Home is beautifully decorated with everything you need. A few beach chairs and a covered parking area were a nice surprise. Loved the screened in porch. Just perfect.

  Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

  We thoroughly enjoyed our week at 89 Inlet Cove. It's a comfortable cottage with amazing views of the river from the deck and screened porch, with almost daily dolphin sightings and glorious sunsets! The beach is only minutes away on foot or bicycle, which is definitely the way to travel on Kiawah. The bike paths are endless, shady, flat and fun to explore from this perfect location. We were more than happy with the rustic feel of this cottage thanks to the spectacular view and location.

  I stumbled onto Kiawah Island as a vacation destination for my family purely by accident. I wanted to find something close to Charleston but near the beach as well. Once we decided on Kiawah, finding a place to stay was another hurdle to overcome but one look on the internet at these river views and the idea of seeing dolphins swimming in your back yard - I was hooked! It was a total leap of faith, considering how many rentals we had to choose from but one that lived up to all our expectations of what a vacation home should be! First off, with the island being so close to Charleston, you can't go wrong! We got the best of both beach and city vacation during our week out there. Charleston is such a great town to visit - with small kids the idea of walking cobble stone streets all day wasn't too appealing but mention horse & buggy & a boat cruise and they were sold! The cottage itself was the perfect location ...to find out we were minutes from Freshfield's Village with an old fashioned ice cream parlor, a grocery store and fresh fish a little further up the road was ideal for us, as we cooked fresh seafood almost every single night. The layout of the cottage was great as well especially for those with young children. Every room was tastefully decorated & very clean, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with all kinds of cooking supplies. We loved the close proximity to the beach and the neighborhood pool (very clean) because on most days, it allowed us to do both! So what was the best part of our vacation on Kiawah Island? - Two things: The first thing was the sunset views from the screened in porch provided the most relaxing breakfast, lunch and dinner experience one could ask for (what was even better was when the clouds would roll in just before sunset, the view would look like fire in the sky - amazing!) The second best thing and one that should not be missed, was walking down to Captain Inlet's Cove during low tide to see the dolphins swim by & even come onto shore. My boys were so fascinated by this, we just had a "dolphin" themed birthday party - thanks to the new movie "Dolphin Tale" - perfect timing! We hope to get back to Kiawah real soon (we couldn't catch any loggerhead turtle eggs hatching so i guess we'll just have to come back!)...It is a true hidden treasure and when we do get back, we know exactly where we'll stay! Thanks, Susie for all your help from beginning to end...you truly made it a stress-free trip:)

• Perfection on the River

  My family has vacationed on Kiawah about 15 times, and it seems we've stayed everywhere--in large houses, cottages, condos, oceanfront, on lagoons, etc. Of all the places we've stayed, this cottage was our favorite. The view of the Kiawah River and marsh grasses at sunset is spectacular, and the house is nicely decorated, with a large kitchen, very comfortable furniture, and a nice back deck (outside) and a perfect screened-in porch, both overlooking the river. The small community is gated and very private. It has a large pool and it is convenient to both the beach and the general store (very important for those who get hungry a few hours after dinner). Having spent a week in the cottage this year, we're going to see if we can spend two weeks next summer.

  This cottage has one of the best views in Inlet Cove with lovely sunsets over the marsh in the evenings, close proximity to the Kiawah River, and only about 3 minutes to the beach or the pool by bike. The owner was very helpful with our questions and responded to my emails on the same day. The bedding and furniture were in great shape and quite comfortable, the kitchen well supplied. We enjoyed all our meals on the screened porch, launched our canoe (only at high tide) right from the cottage and then took out at the community dock when the tide was lower. Our 10 and 12 year olds loved everything. I think Kiawah is even more about the marsh and estuaries than the ocean; from your front porch you can watch the shorebirds and dolphins and marsh grasses, and we even saw a loggerhead turtle from our canoe one day. The pool is very nice, bigger than most of the ones that I saw in the other neighborhoods, with great crabbing off the dock. Thanks for a relaxing week and helpful, cheerful way that you handled my calls/emails, Eleanne. We'll call you when we come back to Kiawah!
