Unique House ~ 5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths; 7th Night Free!
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This quaint complex was originally built as a Hostel. It was renovated during 2011 into a more upscale, yet casual, guest house by its new owner, Michael Miller.
With its new flooring, lighting, screens, electrical/plumbing and decor it now features 5 comfortably-appointed Hawaiian-themed-bedrooms, one of which has its own private bath (a bathroom with a large walk-in shower ~ in Da Slippahs Room). A fifth small bedroom (Da Hula Room) adjoins Da Slippahs room, and has a window AC unit! The remaining 3 bedrooms share a full shower-bath combo in one of the adjoining buildings, entrance to which is only steps away along the connecting-courtyard's deck yet in a locale private enough to not wake others.
No matter which bedroom you choose, all guests have equal-access to the fully-equipped kitchen and laundry rooms and relaxation areas ~ which include a comfy family room, with both love seat and queen-sized sleeper sofas, plus the adjoining screened-in lanai with wicker loveseat/coffee table and large patio table.
135 per night for up to 8 in normal-sized bedrooms, $15/night for each add'l person, up to 13 - with two using full futon (in small 5th room), one using a twin futon (on floor in largest room or on screened-in lanai), and two others using queen sleeper-sofa in living room.
$135, with a two night minimum, reserves exclusive use of whole complex (no other guests, other than your group; 15/night min still applies with over 8 people.)
For Web users: Wifi is freely-accessible throughout the property. There is even a full-body programmable massage chair, strategically located in front of the large-screened TV~ Plus, each bedroom includes at least one reading lamp and chair!
There are 2 eating areas; an all-oak dining room table (seats 6) along with a amply-sized patio table (with seating for 4) on the screened-in Lanai. The living room and lanai coffee tables also help, of course, if you have a larger group that wants to eat at the same time. Additionally, we have a small wooden dining table in our storage shed, which can be used for food prep next to the kettle BBQ!
The architecture of this unique-four-building configuration has been enhanced by the installation of a meditation garden within the enclosed small courtyard, accessible to all. If you prefer a walking meditation, the buildings are flanked by lovely landscaping including fruit trees ~ yours for the picking whenever in season (oranges, limes, grapefruit, avocados and breadfruit).
Another feature guests particularly enjoy: this property attracts many birds, which you will hear singing throughout the daytime; and it, hosts a night-time coqui-frog chorus!
Manager-owners, Michael and Gina, live 'almost next door' in a smaller home ~200 ft away (very privately located) & one or the other is usually available for any type of help if need arises. Gina works at home, plus there is a contact list, in case of any mechanical or other emergencies ~ So far, no emergencies have occrured, but just in case...it's nice to know we have lots of skilled dear friends in the area who would be glad to lend a hand.
All bedrooms are individually keyed for safety, as are the shared bath and kitchen/family rooms. Property is gated and is locked at night for additional security. Gate key is provided along with your room & bath/kitchen keys!
PLEASE NOTE: We also rent out individual rooms, and our calendar cannot reflect this, so please send inquiry for whole house rentals! We prefer whole house rentals, but do rent individual rooms with shorter notice, depending on availability.
'Quiet time~ 11PM to 7AM; flexible with whole-house rental'
Check out - 11AM, Check in - 3PM; or by prior arrangement.
Aloha~! Michael & Gina
PS: Electrical smoke-alarm system throughout (if one goes off, they all do...so, candles/incense burning is prohibited).
Keywords: The Naupaka Guest House is situated next to the Maku'u Forest Reserve, on a small foliage farm, with coconut, orange, lime and other fruit trees. Great location close to all the popular activities in East Hawaii. Great for Family Reunions, Wedding Parties, Group traveling, or even for locals from other side of the big island!

Our stay was lovely. The home was clean, inviting and at the end of the street. The coquis and birds awaken you in enchanting sounds of nature dreamlike. At night well different story when trying to fall asleep. The property is full of lush foliage which we were allowed to pick and make lei. Second year we rented here, we will be back next year. Thank you Michael & Gina God bless you both abundantly. LaniRecommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Aloha, Lani Girl! Mahalo for taking the time to review our guest house ~ Glad you more found our guest house to be tidy and up to par for your needs, and the birds' songs in the morning & throughout the daytime as pleasant as we do. Those coquis can be enchanting, too, as many report their sound soothes them to sleep (as it does us). Still, I know it can be an odd sound for some not accustomed to their sweet mating calls. FYI to others: We provide free ear plugs (large container found in the living area) for anyone who is a light sleeper and may need to block out coquis or any noises from others in their group~ Well, enchanted one... We truly look forward to your return to island next year, and also to viewing your performance at the 2014 Merrie Monarch Festival!! ~ How exciting for you! ~ BIG ALOHA!, and God bless, from Michael and Gina, to you and yours!

We decided to visit the less crowded side of the Big Island and we are glad we did! Michael made us feel most welcome and the place has everything you need, including a shared kitchen and fridge, beach towels, etc. Everything was neat and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. It is very close to the volcano sites and Richardson Park Beach was great! Pahoa has some great restaurants! We would definitely stay there again!Owner response: It was nice to meet you both. We are glad you had a nice visit to the East Side of the Island. We look forward to you visiting again. a hui hou, Michael & Gina

There were so many lovely parts of this rental, I don't know what to list first! Maybe it's the landscape, a former foliage farm with fruit trees throughout that horticulturalists a like us go nuts over. Or maybe it's the incredible massage chair that our 11 year-old son wouldn't move from. Or maybe it's the family style courtyard set-up that provided privacy as well as intimacy. Regardless, we had a wonderful time and were close to everything we wanted to do. The owners are kind and knowledgeable too. Thank you so much for having us - we're already trying to plan a trip back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Aloha Jocelyn, Mahalo for staying at our Guest House. We enjoyed meeting you all. We are glad you had a good time exploring the Big Island. We look forward to seeing you all again in the future. a hui hou, Michael & Gina

This rental was a great place to stay. I would say that it is accurately represented in the photos and was well maintained. The owner Michael was very friendly and accomodating, he answered any questions we had and provided us with extras like the boogie boards that we asked about. The rooms were super cute and had lots of nice added touches. The frogs are loud at night around the place, but they are loud all over the rainforest Puna area. I actually found them nice to fall asleep to and they helped my little ones fall asleep as well. One night a car alarm and dogs barking woke my up early, but I coud hear dogs barking from far away too. this is a rural area and there are lots of dogs and roosters all over the whole region. this particular house did not have any roosters too close so we barely heard any. Lots of the other houses around here have them right next door it seemed. I would totally recommend ths place to other people, the owners were great, it was nice and clean and had a great massage chair. I had a ittle crawing baby and the layout was not ideal for him (with the seperate rooms with the stairs leading down from the porch), but we made it work and were out exploring the amazing things nearby most of the day anyway. Thanks for the great stayRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Aloha Andrea~ Mahalo for your review! Sending warm aloha wishes to you and yours! ~ Michael & Gina

We had an amazing time at the guesthouse, it was truly a home away from home. The location is beautiful; surrounded by lush tropical green and many fruittrees, the rooms are very clean and comfortable and the hosts are the best! Especially when you're a family and/or are a group of friends, Naupaka guesthouse is perfect: separate rooms for your own privacy and a common living room (with super relaxing massage chair) and kitchen where everyone can gather together. The guesthouse is only located a few minutes from the cute little town of Pahoa, which is very convenient for groceries shopping, and only about 10-15 minutes drive to Black sands beach, hotponds, nightmarket, volcano and Hilo town and lots of other great sightseeing.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Aloha Ankea & Celeb. It was wonderful to get to know you and your family & friends! Take Care; a hui hou, Michael & Gina

We stayed at the Naupaka guest house for a whole month. During that time we had friends and family join us for different amounts of time. Everyone loved it; our seventeen month old baby, our friends family that brought their one year old, my mother in law and my sister. Everyone had their own room and key, we all joined together in the family room for dining and movies at night. Close to Pahoa town for dining and shopping, minutes away from the amazing Makuu Sunday market, also close enough to Kahena beach and Kalapana. We had a great time and highly recommend this property. Thanks Michael and Gina for the wonderful stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
