Our Mountain Retreat is overlooking a protected native garden that has the most comprehensive collection of plants from this area. This 2 story 4 bedroom/2 bath home was custom built in fall of 2005. The house has central heat and air-conditioning, although it is rarely needed due to the mountain breezes. It has an inverted floor plan to take advantage of the beautiful views from its many large windows. The main floor has a masterbedroom suite (Queen) with a separate soaking tub and stand up shower. The living areas are all hardwood floors. A beautiful artisan stacked stone gas log fireplace anchors the livingroom. The bedrooms are luxuriously carpeted and spacious. Three additional bedrooms are downstairs (1 Queen,2 singles, Daybed w/pop up trundle), along with a bathroom that mirrors the master bathroom. There are two covered porches where family and friends tend to gather. The double swing on the top porch for the adults and two separate swings downstairs for the kids. The View is ever changing. In the summer the house is surrounded by trees and gives a tree house perspective. In the fall and winter, there are long range views of the surrounding mountains. During the spring, the Corneille Bryan Native Garden is in full bloom right in front of the house. Bird Watchers take notice!
We are in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, at the mouth of Maggie Valley, and 2 miles from quaint downtown Waynesville, NC. Our house is located on the grounds of the Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Center. It is a 5 minute walk to the lake shore and activities. Amenities include:

Our family had a wonderful time in the scenic area of the "Lake". The house was comfy, well equipted clean. The photos clearly showed the beauty of the house. We would return for another vacation - the owners were quite helpful when we called for information.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: We are so glad you had a good time at Lake Junaluska! Thank you for choosing our home!

Loved the house. The house had everything you needed and we especially loved the upstairs porch. Did not like the drive way. We kept scrapping. It was hard backing down if you were the second car at the top of the drive way.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Patricia, Thank You so much for your review of the house. I am so glad that you enjoyed the house! Sorry the driveway gave you trouble! It can be tricky! We hope the porch will call you back to Lake Junaluska! Thanks for responding! Melissa Tingle

We loved staying in this house at Lake Junaluska! The kitchen had everything we needed, and we really enjoyed eating and playing cards on the front deck. There was plenty of room, and had movies and games for our kids to enjoy. Thanks for letting us borrow your house! We plan on going back this summer.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Hi Susan, One of the beautiful things about Lake Junaluska is eating on the porch! I am so glad your family enjoyed the house! I hope it can become a home away from home for your family! Sincerely, Melissa

My family spent a weekend here and found the home had all the amenities and comforts you would need. Home was clean and beds were very comfortable. We loved the deck with plenty of seating, especially loved the swing and watching the birds. The home is convenient to a grocery store, Walmart, and restaurants. Downtown Waynesville is only a 5 minute drive and has many charming stores. We enjoyed the bakery TOO often. Fortunately, the beauty of Lake Junaluska inspires you to walk off the pastries. :) Melissa (owner) was a pleasure to deal with and was quick to respond to any questions I had. We hope to go back soon.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: Dear Ann, I am so happy that you were able to enjoy the birds and sit on the swings!! Thank you for your sweet review! Thank you! Melissa

This is a wonderful home in the best location! I had been looking for homes in Maggie Valley and noticed the listings always mentioned overlooking Lake Junaluska. I decided to look at homes in Lake Junaluska and I am so thankful! This home is stunning and is much nicer than other listings I had looked at. You are minutes from snow skiing or tubing at Cataloochee, minutes from Waynesville, and the best part is the available amenities footsteps away, down at the lake! We came for skiing and snow tubing at Cataloochee, but ended up skipping Cataloochee on our second day due to the chaos and crowds there. Instead (since we were fortunate enough to get snow) we had a blast by staying at the cabin and sledding down the the great (steep) driveway with our new snow sleds. We also headed to a public and free area for sledding on the corner of HWY 19 and Blue Ridge Parkway ( The kids had a blast and want to go back soon)! This home was very comfy and the owners were so gracious and nice. The beds were very comfortable, the hardwood floors were beautiful, the updated "feel" of the house was appreciated and, the fireplace was nice and warm! This home is in a residential/vacation home area where you are close to other homes. We were happy with this, but if you are looking for a secluded area, lake Junaluska isn't the place (there are many homes that line the narrow streets) Of course, we didn't drive all through the area, but we will next time! We had all of the comforts of home including the free WIFI. We would love to come back during the summer and take advantage of all of the beauty and activities of the area! The owners have done a fantastic job by leaving a book of area attractions, dining & menus. We would like to come back and go to Santa Land theme park, Explore the Caverns, and enjoy Lake Junalusaka! Thanks for a great stay!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Dear Tina and David, It sounds like Lake Junaluska is in your hearts since visiting! Great that you were able to enjoy the winter sports and relax as well. We were delighted to have you enjoy the house! Thanks so much for the great review! Melissa

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: Randy is a Hospital Chaplain and Melissa is a School Counselor. We both love hiking on the nearby trails and walking the trail around Lake Junaluska. Melissa practices yoga and Randy is a church history buff. We have two teenage daughters and a small Bichon Frise named Nikki.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Junaluska:
We have been coming to Lake Junaluska since our 19 year old was 5 weeks old. We love the beautiful views, the cool breezes, the sense of privacy but the proximity to conveniences. Randy is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. We wanted a home close to all of the activities of Lake Junaluska but with the privacy that we enjoy while living up in the trees. We are convinced that this is God's Country!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Short walk to all of Lake Junaluska activites, 5 minute walk to pool and play ground, overlooking Corneill Bryan Native Garden. We love having a safe and picturesque place to walk right outside our door, porch swinging up in the trees and bird watching! Hummingbirds and Finches are so close you could touch them as they eat from the porch feeders. We eat breakfast every morning on the front porch in the summer! In fact, if we are not walking the lake, we can be found enjoying the breeze on the front porch!
