Sacred Mountain Retreat in Julian is an enchanting and unique property that offers many exclusive amenities. There is no other like it!
As you drive onto the property, a gate swings open to an enchanting country retreat with all of the luxuries needed for a relaxing stay. With three separate structures, everyone will have the privacy they desire. With all of the open gathering areas, the property also brings you together to share time.
The Main Cottage offers a beautiful, Viking kitchen with farmhouse sink, a breakfast area and dining area with farm table and benches. The Main Cottage has three bedrooms; a large master bedroom with a jacuzzi tub & full bathroom, a generous, sunny bedroom with 2 full beds and a comfy guest bedroom with queen bed and sliding doors to the secret garden. There is a lovley full bathroom in the hallway that is meant for sharing. All rooms have flat screen TV's and Egyptian Cotton bedding for drifting off to sleep. The living room is highlighted by the wood burning pot-bellied stove, rocking chair and sofa bed that sleeps 2.
Just outside of the Main Cottage is a spectacular deck with a bbq, gorgeous dining table & chairs with sweeping views of the valley floor & Vulcan Mountain. If you look left you get a glimpse of the stunning pool and jacuzzi just a hop, skip and a jump down the left staircase; look to the right and you take in a view of the gorgeous Rustic Barn, pergola, dollhouse, garden and Vulcan Mountain that is reached by the stairs on the right.
Next to the Main House is the cozy two story cottage that offers two separate units for privacy; one at ground level that sleeps 2 people in a Cal King bed and one upstairs that sleeps 2 people also with a Cal King bed; both have their own private half baths, sitting areas & flat screen tv's.
As you walk down the steps from the Main Cottage, a vine-draped pergola appears with a family dining table fit for a feast. Take in the stunning views, watch families of wild turkeys and bunnies as you sit and relax over-looking the lush green lawn. As you stroll down the hill to the Old Rustic Barn, you take in the expanse of the property that is within walking distance of town yet at the same time far away from it all.
The Rustic Barn is an absolute gem! The entire ground floor has an expansive deck that runs the length of the barn, perfect for wildlife watching and star gazing. The Barn has a Viking kitchen, large dining area perfect for celebrations, group meals and making memories, a stunning full bathroom, wood burning fireplace, living room/tv area with flat screen tv and sofa bed that sleeps 2. The barn doors at both ends of the barn slide open to let the outside in and make the bottom floor a playground for all to enjoy. The wall of french doors opens up so you can enjoy the view, watch kids play or just let the fresh mountain air in. Venture up the spiral staircase to a cozy sitting area, King & Queens beds in a space that says, 'Come on up and stay for awhile!'
The pool and spa are perfect for a summer day or frosty winter night. With Smith & Hawken teak lounge chairs and tables, baskets full of thick, colorful pool towels, water toys, a pool bathroom and kitchen area as well as an outside pool shower, you will be invited to play or relax...or maybe both as you enjoy the towering oak trees and birds that visit in abundance.
The property is child friendly but NOT child proof and is also pet friendly. There is wi-fi so if you choose to, you can stay connected.
Sacred Mountain Retreat is truly charming and enchanting and the memories you make here will be with you for a lifetime!

Just spent the weekend here with a group of friends and am already aching to go back. Its the strangest thing, after you park and walk through the gates, you feel like you are much further away. Like in another state, Colorado? Montana? Clearly a lot of care has been put into the property to make it luxurious, unique and extremely comfortable. While the main house is not an amazing building itself (more like a friend's nice home than a resort), some important remodeling and so many small touches build up to a great vacation home (very clean, great linens, yummy soaps and candles, quality kitchen supplies, very comfortable furnishings and oh-my-goodness-the-beds!) Same for the guest house. But then there is the barn house - wow! What a magical place. All I can say is an evening on that deck, under the stars, is heavenly. The pool is beautiful. The property is gorgeous. And the views are to die for. This is great location for a family reunion, an executive team retreat, or even a long weekend celebration with friends. I can't wait to go back. I dont think the photos here do it justice! BTW - I hear you can walk into old Julian for some apple pie, and although it seems close enough, I can't imagine leaving the property.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

There are certain getaways a family will always remember. For our family this will be one of them. Spending three nights last weekend at Sacred Mountain Retreat was a deeply relaxing time of being fully in the presence of each other, playing in the snow, and enjoying the amenities of the property-like relaxing in the built-in Jacuzzi, playing as a family on the large grassy fields, and warming up next to the wood burning stove, to name a few. The property’s three living spaces provided ample accommodations for our family of eighteen. The buildings were so unique that many of us rotated where we slept each night to experience each of these thoughtfully furnished locations. Another cool feature of the property was our ability to all eat together in the same dining area. In several spots there were large farmhouse tables that were perfect for our family. The property was exactly as described in the listing. From our initial contact to our checking out, the owners were beyond gracious, making sure that our stay exceeded expectation. Since Sacred Mountain Retreat was gorgeous in the winter, we hope to return in the summer and see how beautiful it is then as well.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: So pleased to hear that you had a "deeply relaxing" time at Sacred Mountain Retreat. The property has a knack of doing that...making you slow down and relax. What a great idea that you slept in different places during your stay! A wonderful way to get the feeling of each "house" as they all offer something different and unique. We would be happy to have you come back and enjoy the warmer months. Spring, Summer and Fall are just beyond belief!

This was a perfect location for our Leadership Retreat. One of the coolest things was how the property itself started the weekend out so happy. Everyone walked around on a tour and just kept saying how amazing everything was. The location is great, the scenery is great, and the house, guest house, and barn are perfect. The pictures do not do it justice, you need to go and see it for yourself! It really was nice to see that every detail was thought of as they designed the whole place, from the 1200 thread count sheets to the commercial grade refrigerator to the flat screen tv's in most of the bedrooms. Also, working with the owners was a great experience. They treated us like we were friends! I will definitely be coming back. I hope you enjoy your next trip here.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and had a great retreat! We look forward to having you back in the Fall. Until then...

This place is absolutely as advertised! I brought my family here for a quiet weekend getaway and we were amazed by the property and the attention to detail. It is the perfect blend of a rustic, mountain vacation with all the modern ameneties needed to truly relax. You could literally spend the entire time on the property as there is so much to enjoy, however I recommend popping into town or enjoying some of the nearby trails as the surrounding area is so beautiful. The property couldn't be situated in a better location as it's close to town, however it feels a world away from everything when you step outside at night to sneak a peak at the stars, which appear to be within arms reach. We lucked out during our stay as we happened to be there for the Orionid Meteor Shower which put on quite the show. Another highlight was waking up and watching the wild turkeys make their way through the property. Again, it doesn't feel as though you are an hour and a half away from San Diego. We would definitely come back and fully intend to.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: How wonderful that you were at Sacred Mountain Retreat for the Orionid Meteor Shower! You must have had quite the show! It is nice to hear that you had such a great time during your stay! We appreciate you taking the time to post a review and welcome you back to stay at Sacred Mountain Retreat any time!

Bliss. From the minute my friend and I walked through the gate, we knew we were in for the kind of memory that keeps you company during long stretches stuck in LA, braving the smog and traffic. In fact, there were several times over the weekend when I was so obviously in the middle of what was going to be an amazing memory that I had to convince myself not to get nostalgic for what was still happening right in front of me. This isn't a memory yet, it's actually happening, it really is this nice, try to hold on. Now I'm back in LA, alas, working to meet the next in an endless cycle of deadlines and demands. Now, the weekend actually is a memory, keeping me company at my desk. Like all memories, I'll carry it with me -- walking through the door to hear the laughter of my friends who'd already arrived, waking up to see the ranch for the first time in the full light of day, walking into town to purchase the toothbrush I thought I forgot ... I'll carry them all, in the hope that the memories eventually grow into something more. Maybe a tradition -- something to both look back on and look forward to. A home away from home. - Written by T.S.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Our hearts sing knowing that you had such a wonderful time at Sacred Mountain Retreat. We look forward to having you back next year...and the year after that...and the year after that...and so on and so on...like the Prell commercial! Happy New Year!

Dear Sacred Mountain, Thank you for opening up your glorious haven to us. This has been hands down the best experience of our lives! You couldn't be any kinder, we could feel the love in every detail of this place. From the moment we arrived to the time our last bag was packed, it felt like home, and an immediate sense of calm and serenity overcame us. Every detail was explicit in making the guest feel pampered. While your photos are beautiful they cant begin to convey how it feels to put your feet on the property. You have taken us back to a different time and place. A peaceful, connected time and place. We hope to return every year! Each day was rich in so many ways and as we learned more about Julian the more we understood why you chose it. From Rose and the San Diego Horse Riding Center right across the way to the old town charm (including the apple pie) every moment felt like a gift. We are filled with memories of our outdoor meals under the pergola and nights we spent on the deck under the stars... each created moments we will cherish for years to come. We highly recommend this retreat for all ages. We have been recalling story after story of our time at sacred mountain, not a week goes by that a memory from our time at your oasis bubbles up. Thank you for creating such a magical place and sharing it with us. Christopher & JoyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family had the opportunity to enjoy Sacred Mountain Retreat last weekend. It was my Mom's 92nd birthday and we had hoped for a well appointed home with a nice outside area. What we got was a "RESORT." The main house was perfect for the elders who all had incredible rooms with high end duvets, linens, towels, pillows, etc, and BIG bedrooms, all with TV's. In the guest house we found the same thing..with added touches of bathrobes, fridge, kettle for tea. It felt like our own B&B. We didn't use the Barn below but took a peak. It was a large open living area big enough for a 12 top table. All the barn doors open up to a large wrap around decks with views galore. We all agreed that next time when we have more guests, this will be the place hang out for afternoon sunsets. The pool area was a hit. It is set away from the house and has its own changing room bathroom, and fridge. You could spend the whole day here in the trees, grass and views and not be bothered by any activities at the main house. We had no problem using the jacuzzi and/or pool. The pool area furniture is all Smith and Hawkins which was so comfortable, a few of us took advantage of an afternoon nap. The pool was just the start. The deck off the main house was huge with lots of seating, and the same incredible views. We all looked forward to our morning coffee on the deck. AND, probably spent more time here than anywhere else. The property is surrounded by grassy area's. The minute you think you know the property is the minute you find another area that is just as special the the last one. There is a pergola in the lower area with table that seats 12 and fire-pit. Between that and the pool are 6 adirondack chairs on their own just for book reading or taking in the views. A vegetable garden. a playhouse, a side yard out the slider of queen bedroom, the fountain... I can go on but you need to stay here to appreciate it. We are still buzzing after such a nice weekend and much of it contributed to the home. It far exceeded our expectations and we will be back next year for her 93rd. Kudos' to the Owner for making her home such a special place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so pleased that your stay at our property was a wonderful one and that your Mom's 92nd year was a celebration with family and loved ones. Thank you for choosing to make special memories at Sacred Mountain Retreat!

This property exceeded our expectations in every way. It was twenty times more beautiful than I hoped it would be more from the pictures. There is just no way to capture the expansive beauty of this place! Everywhere you are, you can see the beautiful backdrop of the mountain. While there, we saw deer, bunnies and tons of turkeys. We felt so removed from everything. The houses had everything we needed. We could have brought nothing with us and been set! There is every kind of kitchen utensil and dish you could ask for, and tons of extra blankets, towels, you name it. The houses are clean and beautifully furnished, and they feel so cozy. I want to go back in the winter - this place seems perfect for a family holiday! This was our first time in Julian, and staying at this property made it amazing. We can't wait to go back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for sharing your experience at Sacred Mountain Retreat! We are always touched when others enjoy our property and experience the beauty of the surroundings of Julian. We would happy to welcome you back any time!

This place holds near and dear to my heart as this retreat was where my husband asked me to marry him:) There isn't a better place in the world that he could have chosen to propose! If you are looking for an absolute PERFECT getaway for a couple or a big group, look no further! This place is ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! Words cannot express the magical feeling you encounter from the first moment you arrive. The retreat is beautiful, romantic, soulful, charming and ultimately cozy. The beauty is endless and the views are surreal. You feel so far away from the "business of life" and it's impossible to not feel inner peace after a stay here. The owner is an absolute gem and provides EXCELLENT customer care. I just cannot say enough about this heavenly place!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This property is absolutely amazing! We went with a group of friends (mostly couples) for a birthday celebration, and for everyone to spend one last weekend together before a number of the couples moved away. We all had a spectacular time! The weather was perfect (end of July), the house was everything you could ask for, the pool was gorgeous...the entire weekend was magical. Great for those who like to cook and hang out poolside, play games, be surrounded by beauty, and simply be comfortable and relaxed. Marti and Terri were so helpful and kind. And the town of Julian was adorable (not to mention the delicious pies!). I highly recommend this place for families and/or groups of couples. Oh...and the dogs had a ton of fun too! I would love to come back sometime and explore more of the local offerings: trails, fishing, wild life viewing, horseback riding, etc.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review and a glowing one at that! It is a true testament to Julian and our property, Sacred Mountain Retreat, that the magic found it’s way into your hearts and the time you spent relaxing there. It made us smile that between enjoying time with your group of friends, the dogs had a lot of fun as well! We welcome you back in the future to enjoy our home again so that you can indulge in all of the other wonderful things that Julian has to offer. The best to you all!
