About the property

4BR/ 2BA house with tankless water heater for endless hot water!

This cabin is perfect for people who want a kid-friendly and comfortable stay!

Cedar Creek Falls Retreat is a house with close to 2200 square feet total and is located near the Cedar Creek Falls and on an acre of land in the exclusive area of Pine Hills 4 miles from historic downtown Julian in San Diego's Back Country. Nestled in majestic oaks, our house sits just off the main road in a secluded hillside with views to the mountains. City lights can be seen from the downstairs porch. A wrap-around deck includes a roomy balcony deck with tables and chairs which is a great place to watch sunsets through the trees. A bird feeding plank is installed on the balcony and a wide array of birds can be viewed from inside the living room. At night you have full view of the stars. We have made the balcony safe by installing fencing overlapping the railings. Part of the property is fenced so that kids and dogs are prevented from wondering off. There is even a dog kennel area. Obviously this is no substitution for supervision and we do have mountain lions so please don't let kids or dogs wander beyond fence line alone. Home to the wild turkeys and deer, our water trough gives you views to morning and afternoon migrations from our balcony or living room.

Star-Gaze from our decks. Walk up the main road and view a panoramic vista of the mountains and ocean from Mexico to the Catalina Islands. Sledding perfect for kids along our house from Oak Grove to the dirt road. Just minutes away are daytime adventures for you and your family including a Gold Mine tour, fishing, horseback riding, wine tasting, and a stroll through downtown Julian for shopping and a slice of world-famous apple pie.

DOWNSTAIRS: The first floor bedroom & bathroom is the Master Bedroom Suite and perfect place for a couple with one child. It boasts a huge corner wood-burning fireplace with flat-screen TV. Beds include a Queen Size bed and a 2-twin daybed and a bathroom. A small covered patio is located off this bedroom. The Bonus Room located behind this suite that sleeps an additional 5 guests, has a Queen, a Full, and Twin. A kitchenette contains coffee/tea area, microwave, and toaster oven.

UPSTAIRS: The second floor is the main living area (has its own entrance) containing a large living room with sofa-bed and loveseat, another corner fireplace, dining room for 12, and a full kitchen. A special closet holds dog essentials. Upstairs bedrooms include a Master with a Cal King Bed, and sliding door that leads to the balcony. The kids' room has trundle that pulls out to another King and is stocked with toys, games, as well as a train table, farmers market stand with play food, and kid-size table and chair.

Wi-Fi, Apple TV with Netflix, forced heating and air conditioning, kitchen fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, and spices. Linens provided at no extra charge.

This single family home was built in 1979 and was used as a primary residence until we converted it to a vacation rental in 2005. If you expect a resort type feel like you get at the new upscale condos and cabins, this is not it. This is a family-friendly, dog-friendly cabin. We have added many upgrades to the home including a tankless water heater, filtration system to filter out the well water, remote thermostat to pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin, clearing the over grown trees for a better view to the city, laundry area, updated lighting fixtures, new paint downstairs to lighten the room up, new hardwood floors downstairs, and countless other things we have done since we have owned the property in 2003. If you complain about what it isn't, you fail to see the beauty of what it is and the magical spot it is where wildlife is attracted to our front door.

SMOKING allowed on wrap-around decks and balcony.

NO SMOKING or CANDLE BURNING is allowed inside home.

About The Owner

I purchased this home in 2003 and a month later the Cedar Fires came roaring through our woods. Most of those trees have been cut down which now creates a view to the mountain vista.

I work in the film industry in Los Angeles and love coming up to the cabin to relax and be part of the nature while having all the comforts of a home.

The Owner purchased this house in 2003

Why The Owner chose Julian

I grew up in San Diego and we would take day-trips to Julian as kids. I remember getting fresh baked bread from Dudley's and placing it between my brother and I. We'd make a hole in one side of the bread like mice and eat the inside leaving the crust.

We had family living in Julian so when this property became available we seized it. We find the experience being there like no other.....

What makes this house unique

We love this property! My boys have a great time swinging on the rope swings for hours, chasing turkeys, or spotting deer. Even though most of the toys at the cabin were theirs, they seem to have a new-found interest in them when we are there. They have all sorts of adventures on the property within the fence. We even rented a small Quad and rode on the trails Thanksgiving. We have many upgrades in the works but as always our focus will be kid/pet friendly with long-term wear and tear in mind.

We hope your family enjoys our second home as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi, and happy new year! Just wanted to let you know that we loved, loved, loved

our stay! The cabin is terrific - great amenities, decor, supplies, etc. And a

great set-up for the little ones! Also thoroughly enjoyed the constant visits to

the water trough by the numerous deer and turkeys! Thought Friday night's

rain might turn to snow, but no luck! Other than that one night, the weather

was cold, but super. A very relaxing, wonderful time was had by all. And yes

we did have some really awesome sunsets!

Excellent Stay!

We had a great weekend at Melisa's place. Communication was excellent, the house accommodated our large group very well, and we would definitely stay here again.

Rustic and quiet

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I brought my teenage son and four of his friends for a weekend and they loved it. They spent most of the time outside exploring and enjoying the great natural Outdoors. I grew up in a log cabin in Upstate New York so it brought back many fond memories of my childhood. The boys quickly figured out how to use the TV set up so that we could watch movies and the barbecue was great for cooking some tri-tips we had on Saturday night. This is truly a rustic cabin experience but one I would highly recommend for anyone who wants some peace and quiet in the woods.

Great location, friendly service

  • 5 of 5

This place is in a very beautiful area and the owner is friendly and responds quickly to your questions. There is plenty of room, I brought a large group and we were able to accommodate everyone. There is plenty of wildlife all around, we saw deer, turkey, and other birds. There is a lot to do in the area including hiking, fishing, or shopping in nearby Julian. I would recommend this place to a friend.

Somewhat disappointed by this vacation rental

  • 2 of 5

We had a very mixed experience with this rental. We spent Easter week-end 2016 here with our extended family, including kids, spouses and grand-kids. It was a last minute booking and we felt we did OK, given the circumstances, particularly as it is hard to accommodate 14 people. The house did accommodate all of us. There were several features that were nice, including the private setting near Julian, the tire swings that the children enjoyed, and a blooming lilac bush in an otherwise overgrown and neglected yard. That said, the house is very dated and some of the furnishings need to be replaced. The living room couch was terribly stained and the filling was spilling out of the cushions. There were several missing slats in the shades of each one of the bedroom windows, making it hard to sleep when daylight hit the rooms. The rooms upstairs (living, dining, and kitchen + master bedroom, kids’ room) were adequate, aside from the shade problem. The rooms downstairs where most of us slept were not as pleasant. They were humid and musty. 2 of the pillowcases had hair on them (it made us question how clean the house was in general). The kitchen was equipped reasonably well, although we did not find a single sharp knife nor a clean dish sponge. All in all, we felt it was OK for 2 nights, but not a place where we would want to spend any more time. This house would require quite a bit of work to make it feel fully clean and comfortable. Finally, even though there was a grill, the house rules stated that tenants were required to bring their own fuel. That was not at all practical for us, so we were not able to use the grill. Of all the places we have rented across the country for our extended family, this one was definitely the least welcoming and comfortable.

Beautiful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my daughter's birthday here this month (February 2016) and we had a large family that had come here to celebrate. There was plenty of room for us all and we enjoyed this awesome cabin/house in the country. It was so peaceful hearing the wind blow thru the trees and watching the stars at night. In the morning and at dusk we watched the deer come out and eat, along with a whole bunch of wild turkey. The kids absolutely loved it too. I would highly recommend this place if your looking for a comfortable place in a country setting and away from the city life for awhile!! The owner is very friendly and helpful too, by the way!
