About: I am a Distinguished Research Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. I was born in Hilo (Kilauea Avenue), attended Waikeawaena Elementary, Hilo Intermediate, Hilo High, and the University of Hawaii at Hilo. I went on to continue my studies at Syracuse University, and did post-doctoral work at the University of Chicago and Bryn Mawr College.
Why Hilo: This is my Hilo home, which I purchased from my uncle when he moved to the mainland. It is on the property that my grandfather brought up his family, which was originally on one acre. My uncle built this house in the 50's and it now sits on 1/4 acre of the original property of my ancestors.
The Unique Benefits at this House: Renters have found that this home is located at a convenient place for them to visit relatives (or entertain them here), work on projects they come to Hilo to perform, and close to marketing, shopping, and places they want to visit around Hilo. They have commented on how open and lighted it is inside the house and enjoy the patio for relaxing and entertaining. They appreciate having the 3 bathrooms, the fully equipped kitchen and the cleanliness and upkeep.
The house is not directly on the street but backs up on the Waiakea High School playing field which is expansive and well maintained and neat - so it is quiet in the back of the house.
