  • Most Memorable place stayed on Big Island

"We spent a month on the Big Island and stayed in many different places. On the dry side we stayed in Waikoloa resort hotels and condos and then a nice hotel in Kona before we went over to the other side to a hotel in Hilo and finally ended up on the Hamakua Coast at The Historic Buddhist Temple. We were booked for 5 nights and when we first arrived felt unsure and wondered what we would do there for so long. Then the place began to work it's magic. We slowed down and began to really appreciate the quality of the space we were in...the feel of its history, how it has been lovingly restored and decorated with lovely old things that I continued to discover each day we were there, the amazing professional kitchen, the temple upstairs so wonderful a space for yoga etc etc. We enjoyed walking down to the point, learning about its history and watching the spectacular waves. We could drive into a lovely town nearby for shopping, coffees, movies and there is a swimming pool in a little town that is even closer. Hilo and Waimea are both accessible. We enjoyed the farmers market in Waimea on Sat morning. Ron sells his gelato there. His gelato is not to be missed! Unique flavours, delicious and healthy. Another highlight was definitely the hosts. They are brave and positive souls that are working hard at doing what they love. So they were inspiring as well as being as knowledgeable and helpful without ever intruding on your space. They are also fun! In short our stay was most memorable because of the place and because of them. Check out Peters review for more details."

  • Great location-Gracious host Family

"We travel to Hawaii every Jan toescape the cold and snow. What a great place and location this is to do that! We wanted to be in place that met those goals but was peaceful and quite this place sure hit the mark! Wow, this area met those objectives in grand fashion. The blue house is very well constructed, the view of the ocean from the very private deck is gorgeous. We were able to make great day trips easily from this location and return in the evening to the comfort of this well appointed home. The host family was gracious and very helpful in advising us on things to see and do... A great fit for us."

  • Exceeded our expectations

"The rental was spacious, private, very comfortable and well-stocked with far more amenities than we expected. We especially liked all the books on the history of the Hamakua Coast, which gave us a special perspective on the region as well as the history of the property itself. When booking, we somehow missed the fact that the rental also includes exclusive use of a large wooden hot tub and outdoor shower, which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed taking walks on the upcountry roads amid the lush green forest. The owners were very kind and accommodating, and the kitties who live on the farm are soooo sweet. Our son enjoyed feeding leftovers to the pig! Lots of fun!"

  • Great ocean view and deck to enjoy the view!

"Good central location to use as a base to see the island. Kona side is a bit of a drive but worth the drive. House equipped with almost everything you could want or need. House had good (efficient) layout to maximize space and provide convenience for the guests. Everything was clean and neat. Everything functioned except the coffee grinder. Fantastic location near the black sand beach and Waipio Valley. Owner was extremely helpful prior to the stay with information and details about the house. Would stay again!"
