A mixed review
This rental served our purpose but I probably won't rent it again. We needed to be in Seattle due to a family medical emergency and this rental was close to where we needed to be. The good points - The location was perfect and the unit was clean and well appointed. Parking on the street was never an issue. It was a safe area - we took evening walks without any concerns. A big plus was that we were automatically given early access to the unit, which was very convenient for us. The communication with the rental company was very good and the information provided was fine.
The bad points - The front door had a window without a curtain and you had to walk past that door to go to the bathroom. At night, the lack of privacy was a small issue. The bed is pretty high and I am short - another minor issue. There is a Tablet for the renter's use but no one had updated some of the software so trying to look things up on it was pretty much not doable - luckily, we had a computer we used instead. The biggest issue was when the house above us was rented out. For the first two days, we were alone and everything was quiet. On the third day, the house was rented out to a large party and the sound traveled through the walls too easily. We could hear conversations, furniture being moved, and everyone walking around. At one point, someone in the upstairs rental tried to open the door between that unit and our unit. We had to tell them not to come in - not sure if the door could actually be opened from their side but we saw the handle moving. At the very least, there should be a sign on both sides saying that they do not have access through that door. The last two days were extremely noisy. Although the renters weren't doing anything inappropriate and were just living in the rental, the sound traveled too much for us to ignore it. For that reason, I wouldn't stay here again.
Nice litttle apartment, very clean, most things new.
Neat clean apartment, excellent bed, very well supplied with kitchen stapes and wonderful extras like spaghetti, snacks, coffee, chocolate (!), etc
This is on the basement level, but with large modern windows to overcome any "claustrophobic" concerns. If the upper apt is occupied you can hear some footsteps above but they are fairly muffled. The owner is very available and helpful, and has strict rules to keep noise levels neighborly.
Thank you! We enjoyed meeting & having you and your wife stay in the basement apt. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and would welcome you back in the Ballard apt. anytime! Tara & Ron
English Lady from St. Louis
I rented this unit for 9 days, over the Christmas holidays. 4 of those days were spent on Whidbey Island with my family so I was a total of 5 days in the unit. I was a little cold in the basement but basement are usually colder than first floor apartments. I was always warm in the wonderful bed! It was a wonderful bedl! I only met Tara and talked to Ron on the phone because I had trouble with the TV. The cupboards in the apartment were a little too high for me as I am only 4'11" and could not reach the shelves. I had to drag a chair across the room to reach the shelves. However, this was just my problem and I have had this happen in other places. I was a little upset when I got home and found that property damage protection was listed on my charge card twice. This has nothing to do with Tara and Ron. but when I questioned this with the company, one of the charges was for insurance. I did not think this was good business having the same name for two different items. I have rented many places in Ballard and have never had this property damage protection that was not returned at the end of the stay! I rented for 2 months one summer and paid $500 deposit which was returned at the end of the stay. I have always looked for my place through VRBO but then contacted the owner and rented through them. This does not seem to be the case now. It seems that VRBO/Homeaway is getting a lot of the money not Tara and Ron.. However, the day I arrived Tara and Ron had a basket with enough assortment of food to keep me going until I could shop. I had been up since 2 o"clock that morning and was extremely tired. It was unfortunate that I could not get in until 4 o'clock. Because of the property damage protection I will not rent again through VRBO. Possibly only with contact with the owners.
We are glad you enjoyed the welcome basket and the bed. In the future we will make sure that the step stool is in the space as it is a good point that some guests may need a stool to access the upper cabinets.
We are glad you enjoyed your time in the Pacific Northwest.

This Ballard basement suite is wonderful! The suite is so clean, comfortable, and cozy with nice natural light. It is a quiet and friendly neighborhood. Enjoyable walking to the many places Ballard has to offer. The property owners are very welcoming and accommodating and the love they have for this home shows in every detail of this rental. Our two month stay was a perfect home away from home.
