About the property

Brand new, light filled storybook log cabin surrounded by trees, with views!

The Cottage at Winghaven is a brand new light filled log cabin located less than 20 minutes to Asheville. The Cottage is privately located on 38 acres of forest but with easy access to shopping and restaurants.

Relax in front of the wood burning stove, soak up the sun on the south facing deck or have a drink and watch the wild turkeys from the covered porch. The Cottage is perfect for a romantic getaway or for families!

The main floor is accessible from the driveway without navigating stairs.

Main floor: The bedroom with a forest view has a queen bed and attached bathroom with step in shower. The living room has a Danish wood burning stove, and sliding glass doors to the south facing porch where you can soak up the sun and enjoy the view in classic Adirondack chairs. The covered front porch is also accessible from the living room and is inviting for a coffee on a rainy summer afternoon. The contemporary kitchen is well equipped to create memorable dinners.

Loft: The sleeping loft is fun and comfortable for kids and adults alike. It is connected to the main floor and lower level with a spiral staircase. There are four twin beds with memory foam mattresses and a view out the south wall of windows.

Lower Level: The lower level of the Cottage features a large bedroom suite with a queen bed, sitting area and sliding glass doors to the outside. There is a private bathroom with soaking tub, separate shower and two sinks. The lower level is connected with a spiral staircase but also has its own entrance from outside.

The Cottage is a convenient home base for the multitude of activities our area has to offer: Visit the Biltmore Estate ( 11miles), Downtown Asheville (12 miles), Historic Hendersonville (14 miles), go tubing or kayaking on the French Broad River, zip lining, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike a different trail every day or see five magnificent waterfalls in just one day. There are wine tastings, beer tours, music and dance performances to attend and fabulous restaurants to try. Biking is a favorite sport here be it on the road or on mountain trails. We are more than happy to help you with planning your vacation so please talk to us and let us know what you are interested in.

Of course the Cottage is also an awesome place to just relax, enjoy the sun shining through the leaves, the peace of the forest and the starlit nights.

Please note that the Cottage is accessed by a private gravel road but 4-wheel drive is usually not necessary. We are happy to talk you about the road if you have concerns about driving in the mountain!

We live about 10 minutes from the cottage. We are usually available to stop by if you need us to, and we are always available by phone. You'll receive an electronic lock code so check in and check out is easy. You'll enjoy complete privacy at the Cottage, but we are available if anything needs our attention.

About Jofre & Saskia Cacanindin

After living or owning properties in Germany, the Philippines, Hawaii, Manhattan, Croton-on-Hudson, and Raleigh, we chose the Asheville area to raise our three children. We love the cultural and natural richness of this place. The mountains, forests, ecological diversity, waterfalls and the local food movement, farms and markets, outstanding restaurants, cultural events and interesting, friendly people make this a great place to live and visit.

We live just about ten minutes away from Winghaven, on a small farm with dairy goats, rare breed chickens, ducks, geese and dogs. . Of course we would also be delighted to have you come in person and visit with the animals during your stay at Winghaven! Naturally, we will always have fresh eggs from our happy hens as well as handmade goat's milk soap for you at the Cottage at Winghaven.

Why Jofre & Saskia Cacanindin chose Fletcher

After three years of successfully welcoming guests to the Chalet at Winghaven (VRBO #659460) we decided to build the Cottage at Winghaven in walking distance, but still with complete privacy. Like the Chalet the Cottage is located at Winghaven, a 38 acre property of beautiful forest close to Asheville and Hendersonville, NC. The Cottage is perfect for families or groups of friends. We are very excited that we were able to provide a way to access the main floor without steps to navigate so everybody can enjoy this mountain cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

The Cottage at Winghaven was designed from the ground up to provide a relaxing, peaceful, private retreat for our guests to reconnect with family, friends or a significant other. It is also a perfect place to celebrate birthdays, graduations or stay for a beautiful mountain wedding. Of course we chose to build a log home because how can you not want to stay in a real log cabin in the woods? The wood burning stove and the large deck and covered porch invite you to slow down and relax inside or out depending on the season.

Children and adults enjoy the sleeping loft. Alternatively the master bedroom is inviting and the lower level suite is very spacious with a sitting area and large bathroom. The three floors are tied together by a spiral staircase that leaves plenty of space to spread out and enjoy this cozy cabin.

Just what the doctor ordered

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights at the Winghaven cabin and it was everything we were looking for. I recall seeing a review of this unit long before we rented it and the complaint was about the access road. To us, it was all part of rustic and peaceful setting and for those that want to complain, maybe they should try a hotel with room service the next time. This cabin was fully equipped with everything you can ask for. It was exceptionally clean and well decorated. Nothing was lacking.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this cabin and our trip to North Carolina. Cabin is very clean and new. It fit our family of four very well. Very nice to have extra amenities such as handmade soaps, a dozen farm fresh eggs, snacks and coffee k-cups. Also very nice to have a gas grill available to use. We loved our stay! We would highly recommend.

Great cabin!! It was clean. It was so very quiet there!!!

  • 4 of 5

I would have rated it a 5 but the dirt path to get to the cabin is very precarious. Also the driveway to cabin is very steep and small. I took my newer car and I was concerned driving up and down the path and driveway. I am not sure my older van would of made it up the steep driveway.

Owner's Response: I'm glad that all of you enjoyed the Cottage! I'm sorry that the driveway was too steep for your comfort. We are in the mountains so sometimes less than ideal grades cannot be avoided. Fortunately as you have probably noticed there is plenty of space to park on the side of the private road and walk the 20 feet to the front door of the Cottage if you don't feel comfortable driving down to park directly in front of the cabin. The bridge then makes access easy without any additional steps up to the door. I don't feel that the private access road which is newly graveled and graded can be referred to as a dirt path. The road is not steep and precarious, but yes, as mentioned in our description of the property it is not a paved road. When we chose the location of the Cottage on the property we felt that most of our guests would prefer the complete privacy and quiet away from the main road.

A wonderful stay in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cabin from Saturday 06/30 to Wednesday 07/04. The cabin was exceptionally clean & well furnished. Everything imaginable to create a comfortable and inviting stay was taken care of and provided. For those considering staying at this location I would recommend doing so without hesitation!

Pros:

Brand new construction! Fresh, clean & well furnished.

4 mini-split HVAC units provide plenty of comfort during hot or cold seasons.

All creature comforts provided from satelite tv, wifi, bathroom accessories, farm fresh eggs & snacks in the kitchen & homemade soaps in the baths.

Propane grill & wood burning fire pit outside (did not use).

Washer / dryer available (did not use).

Very attentive owners that are only 10 minutes away.

Strong cell signal available so communication & data wasn't an issue.

Cons:

The private drive & parking area could be intimidating to those with small vehicles.

Mountain view from back porch area is restricted by trees & leaves in summer, probably much better during winter months when trees are bare.

Spiral stair case is narrow & could lack privacy for guests staying on bottom floor.

Very limited grassy yard area for dog companions to stretch outside.

Wifi is provided by a cellular tablet. It's very slow.

Drive time to downtown Asheville is approx. 25 minutes. A bit further out than expected.

Over all, the experience was great and wonderful memories were made. This is one of the nicest online rentals that I've encountered. We do hope to come back later in the year to experience the mountains in the later part of fall.

Peaceful mountain retreat

  • 5 of 5

This home was very nice for our family of 5 and 1 dog too. It was clean, peaceful and had nice touches such as the eggs left for us, the great smelling soaps and the coffees, snacks and teas. Each room had their own ductless A/C unit which provided much comfort as everyone could set their own individual setting. Jofrey and Saskia were very responsive and answered all of our questions. There is a private bedroom on the main floor with attached bathroom. A spiral staircase leads up to the 3rd floor loft which has enough room to sleep 4. The staircase also connects down to the basement level bedroom which is very nice and large and has a private bathroom complete with shower and large soaking tub. There is also a laundry room on this basement level.

As a previous review stated, we too did not enjoy the road up to the home. It was bumpy and had rocks and dips in the road that we had to try to avoid. Our tires took a beating and an SUV would probably work best.

This home was a lovely home and we would definitely consider coming back the next time we are visiting Asheville.

Owner's Response: Thank you again for staying at Winghaven and we are so glad you enjoyed your time there! We do hope you'll return one day. We are sorry that Winghaven Drive was damaged due to the record breaking rainfalls we experienced in recent weeks. Road repairs, grading and more gravel deliveries have been scheduled for the coming weeks so if you decide to return one day it will be back in better shape and easier to drive.

Clean, hip, modern, fun

  • 5 of 5

We literally enjoyed everything about the property itself. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was fun and modern, the fresh eggs - though we didn’t use them - were a cute touch. The only thing we did not fully enjoy was the poor condition of the roadway, but we realize that was pretty much out of your control. Can’t wait to come back!
