Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This magical retreat in a wooded setting has picturesque old world charm reminiscent of an Italian Alpine cottage.

Red Gate Cottage, situated on a knoll in Beaverdam Valley, is a vintage log cabin faced with stone. Semiskilled craftsmen working over decades, using stone and antique brick, produced an effect that makes the cottage resemble an ancient stone house in the Alps. The original log walls inside have been restored and preserved.

The luxury renovation by the Architect/Owner features high pine-faced cathedral ceilings throughout. The river stone fireplace is a focal point where people enjoy gathering to watch movies and cable HDTV or to just soak up the relaxing atmosphere. It's a great venue for romantic couples, friends and family groups to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

A hot tub on the stone patio, cradled by massive rock walls, rests under pergola. Beyond, a sunken garden has a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

From the deck, you can enjoy close mountain views as you dine or sit around a blazing fire in the chiminea. Relax in the hammock, and listen to the sounds of the abundant wild life mingling with those of barnyard animals from nearby farms. Flocks of wild turkeys wander by. Guests recently saw a total of eight black bears (including 4 cubs) during their stay.

Peaceful and quiet, the cottage is within 10 minutes of the center of Asheville. The scenic Beaverdam Valley meanders past the country club golf course en route to the spectacular high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway – where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. Yet the fantastic restaurants and night life of Asheville are only a few minutes away. The Gove Park Inn is nearby, and the University of NC is just minutes away. Black Mountain is within 30 minutes, and Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Park and Wolf Laurel Ski Resort are all within 45 minutes. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is an hour’s drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

At Red Gate Cottage, you can enjoy both town and country, truly the best of both worlds. So bring the children, bring the dog. Here, you can get away from it all but still stay in touch by telephone (free long distance) and high speed wireless internet.

Please note that there is a 5-night minimum stay for all major holidays.

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

I just wanted to thank you for the warm welcome we received upon arriving at your beautiful Red Gate Cottage. We loved the delicious cookies and the bottle of wine was such a nice touch. Your cottage is the perfect get away and you provided everything we could have wanted. Your place is so cozy, quaint, and super clean. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. My only regret is that we couldn't have stayed longer, as there were many things we wanted to see and didn't get to. Your suggestion to stop at the Visitors Center on the way to the cottage is a good one. We took the Hop on Hop off trolley tour, saw the Biltmore Estate during the day and returned at night for the Candlelight Christmas tour. We visited the North Carolina Arboretum and stayed for their evening Christmas light show. We didn't get to do any serious hiking, but that will be our reason for returning and staying once again at your Red Gate Cottage. Thank you again for everything!

Quaint and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Four of us stayed at Red Gate Cottage the first week of November.

That is a perfect time to visit Asheville. The weather was cool and bright and the city is definitely in the holiday spirit. Asheville is a beautiful and vibrant town.

Red Gate Cottage was the perfect place to stay while we were there. It provides a warm and comfortable feeling as soon as you pull up to the house. It is beautiful blend of a Cotswold cottage and a mountain cabin.

Georgia, the owner, is nothing short of fantastic. She takes extreme care to ensure that you have a perfect stay at the Red Gate Cottage and that you have a great experience visiting Asheville. She is a fantastic ambassador for her town.

We use VRBO several times a year in our travels. Georgia is the best owner we ever have dealt with. If we return to Asheville... we will come home to Red Gate Cottage.

Great Stay

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful cottage nestled away in the mountains and close to downtown Asheville, Black Mountain, and Biltmore Village. Four of us spent three nights, enjoying the hot tub, fire place, eat in kitchen and lovely wrap around porch. Comfortable, clean, and the host provided a fantastic binder full of 'Thing to do' in the area.

Adorable and immaculate!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Red Gate Cottage for a "Girls Weekend Trip" Oct 5th-8th 2017. I speak for all 5 of us when I say, "WOW!" It was so cute and just immaculate. Probably the cleanest place we have ever stayed. Fully loaded - hot tub, grill, fire pit, children's play area, hammock, grill, indoor/outdoor fireplace, plenty of outdoor seating all over the property, WIFI, TV, etc. We were greeted by a personalized note, a plate of cookies, and a bottle of wine. Georgia was extremely helpful and full of tips to get the most out of our stay. We travel a lot, and so far this has surpassed all the other places we have stayed. You will not be disappointed!

Adorable

  • 5 of 5

Red gate is clean, close to everything and just so darn cute!! On the smaller side but has everything you need. Yard is great for late night fires and wine under shadow of the mountains.

Awesome for dogs. Yard is fenced and secure. I VRBO a lot and I highly recommend this property.
