Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This magical retreat in a wooded setting has picturesque old world charm reminiscent of an Italian Alpine cottage.

Red Gate Cottage, situated on a knoll in Beaverdam Valley, is a vintage log cabin faced with stone. Semiskilled craftsmen working over decades, using stone and antique brick, produced an effect that makes the cottage resemble an ancient stone house in the Alps. The original log walls inside have been restored and preserved.

The luxury renovation by the Architect/Owner features high pine-faced cathedral ceilings throughout. The river stone fireplace is a focal point where people enjoy gathering to watch movies and cable HDTV or to just soak up the relaxing atmosphere. It's a great venue for romantic couples, friends and family groups to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

A hot tub on the stone patio, cradled by massive rock walls, rests under pergola. Beyond, a sunken garden has a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

From the deck, you can enjoy close mountain views as you dine or sit around a blazing fire in the chiminea. Relax in the hammock, and listen to the sounds of the abundant wild life mingling with those of barnyard animals from nearby farms. Flocks of wild turkeys wander by. Guests recently saw a total of eight black bears (including 4 cubs) during their stay.

Peaceful and quiet, the cottage is within 10 minutes of the center of Asheville. The scenic Beaverdam Valley meanders past the country club golf course en route to the spectacular high mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway – where you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic drives. Yet the fantastic restaurants and night life of Asheville are only a few minutes away. The Gove Park Inn is nearby, and the University of NC is just minutes away. Black Mountain is within 30 minutes, and Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Park and Wolf Laurel Ski Resort are all within 45 minutes. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is an hour’s drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

At Red Gate Cottage, you can enjoy both town and country, truly the best of both worlds. So bring the children, bring the dog. Here, you can get away from it all but still stay in touch by telephone (free long distance) and high speed wireless internet.

Please note that there is a 5-night minimum stay for all major holidays.

Ideal Asheville Location & Comfy Cozy Clean!

  • 5 of 5

Georgia's "Red Gate Cottage" was the perfect compliment to our relaxing getaway and it is ideally located. Easy 8 min drive to downtown Asheville for dining/shopping/craft beer tasting/live music/arts & culture etc... We loved the Biltmore estate located about 12 min away, also, definitely follow Georgia's advice in her welcome letter and go to the Visitors Center early in your trip for help with planning your itinerary, we received discounted tickets through the center and they are very knowledgeable. Just about 15 min to Blue Ridge's BEAUTIFUL drive through Pisgah Nat'l Forest, several hikes offered throughout the forest ( we especially enjoyed hiking "upper falls", stop at the ranger station for detailed hiking maps if needed ) Returning at the end of a long day of hiking to soak in the hot tub with a glass of wine was the best!

Georgia is such an impeccable hostess, no detail unchecked! "Welcome Gifts" awaited us upon arrival, she even had personalized treats for our 2 dogs! The cottage was very cozy and clean with many neat details ( read the history of the red gate property in her information binder, very cool story!) The secure yard was great and there were several seating areas throughout to ensure options. Whether morning coffee and a little sun is your thing or a shaded comfy place to get lost in a book, the choice is yours.

We can't wait to return next summer!!!

Quiet & cozy. Feels like you're away from it all but very close to everything. Loved spending time outside watching the lightening bugs. Clean. So appreciated the letter Georgia left for us...and the cookies!! Would definitely stay again

Lovely Cottage with excellent outdoor space

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cottage for a weekend getaway with 2 families. It was perfect! The kids loved the play set outside and the parents loved the fire pit and hot tub! With two families, it was cozy on the inside, but that was fine. Georgia went out of her way to make sure we had necessary items for the kids (pack n play and high chairs) and she was a delight to communicate with. We would absolutely stay here again!

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This place exceeded my expectations in every way. The indoor space is close quarters but so very well thought out. Georgia has thought of everything! From the salt and pepper in the kitchen to candles by the hot tub to the sticks for roasting marshmallows, you have everything you need and things you didn't even know to ask about!

The real draw to this place, though, is the outside accommodations. My daughter spent hours playing make believe in the tree house, and I could let her do so with peace of mind because she was in a fenced yard while I read on the gorgeous porch.

This place is also perfectly located. We were just a few minutes from grocery stores and restaurants and the activities downtown, but we had no problem taking day trips to hike in the mountains--all from the secluded tranquility of a country cottage. It was a wonderful vacation, and I highly recommend this property (as long as you're not going on a day when I want to go back!)

Cozy Red Gate Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Red Gate Cottage was perfect for my siblings and I. This home is full of character, very cozy, but with plenty of room for us to have our own space and had all the comforts. Plus it was very convenient to town and the surrounding attractions. Georgia provided a nicely appointed property with all the supplies and information we needed for a lovely vacation. We particularly enjoyed relaxing on the deck in the evenings after a long day of hiking in town, at the Biltmore or in the woods.
