House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 14-16)
Our home is very comfortable, attractively furnished, more than fully equipped and accommodating for groups of family and friends. All of our guests love it and often say 'the pictures do not do it justice'.
The main floor has cathedral ceilings, large living room, dining room and kitchen with center island. Both the living room fireplace and the dining room stove are wood burning.
Dining room table seats 12 and there is additional seating for 7 at the kitchen center island and at the table in the breakfast nook. I also have an extra table and folding chairs.
There are 2 bedrooms on the main floor, both with queen beds and there is 1 bath upstairs. Downstairs are 2 baths, 1 king, 1 queen and a bunk room with 2 single bed over double bed bunks. I also have a couple of rollaway beds, queen aeromattress and pack’n play, high chair seat, baby monitor, stair gates for little ones. Full Laundry is on the lower floor as well.
The house is fully equipped with linens, kitchen staples, paper products, bath products/hair dryers. TV/VCR/DVD combo in the living room, another TV/DVD in the upstairs bedroom and a TV/VCR/DVD in the bunk room. Stereo, books, games, DVDs/tapes.....
Firewood and snow removal are provided in winter. We plow in front in the winter so there is enough parking for about 4 cars on flat ground along with garage space.
There are 2 furnished decks - large one out in the fenced back yard (with tree house) and a small one in front. There is a Weber gas barbecue.
We are just outside of Tahoe City off of 89. Its 10 minutes to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski areas. Homewood (small jewel of an area) is practically next door. There is a a sledding hill at Granlibakken which is 5 minutes from here. Granlibakken also has a small, learning ski hill.
The bike trails are 1 block from the house and tennis courts, park and playground just down the road. Many great beaches are found, one in Tahoe City and several south of us.
Tahoe City is a great lakeside town with lots of restaurants, shops, grocery stores, etc. Truckee is about 15 minutes from here - South Shore Casinos and Reno are about a 45 minute drive. Stateline Casinos are about a 30 minute drive.

Perfect Christmas vacation house!
What a wonderful house for the whole family to enjoy a holiday vacation! My three adult children, partners, grandson, and our little dogs felt at home in this cozy home, only a few minutes from town and 10 minutes from Homewood Ski Resort. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough snow for skiing but we had a great time, anyway. The owners are warm and generous, and have stocked the kitchen with everything anyone could possibly need to feed a house full for the holidays. They even decorated the house with Christmas items before we arrived! There was plenty of parking off the road for all our vehicles and a space for a small car in the garage.
We appreciated the extra-large back yard that is well-fenced so that our dogs could run around. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs where dogs aren't allowed so just be aware, if you are bringing your fuzzy family.
Stop by the bakery/coffee house just a minute or two away. It's a gem! There is also a great hill for sledding across from the bakery.
Be sure you understand the operation of the bear barrier that wraps around the house before you arrive. There is no switch marked On or Off. The black circle to the left of the sliding switch is the Off switch and the other symbols turn it on to various levels of shock.
Also be sure to purchase the damage insurance offered by Home Away. It's only $50. The owners don't live near so there can be some confusion about which-tenant-did-what. That way you'll be covered.
Anyone renting this house in this quiet, beautiful area will find that it is well-stocked, well-appointed, with very happy vibes inside and out. It's apparent that it has been loved and cared for by a wonderful family.
Thank you for sharing your treasure with us, Irene and Greg. You made our Christmas unforgettable!

Large, well supplied with alot of rooms!
This house was absolutely fantastic for a get together and river floating. It was less then a mile from the start of our float, had alot of parking and is situated in the middle of a bunch of quiet houses with nice neighbors. You cant tell from the pictures but the dining room table was huge and easily fit 12 people around it and had a real nice flow of the entertaining spaces. Even though i will admit there is a bit of a weird design to the room locations it was nice that they were far away from the dining room, kitchen, front porch and backyard. Thats another thing that was amazing was the back porch and yard. We had a hammock outside and BBQ'd two of the nights and ate outside in the back at the picnic table. The owners also keep it incredibly well stocked with cooking oils and spices and condiments so alot of our purchased items went home with the group or were left to pay it forward to the next group. I would strongly suggest this place to anyone with a large group who want the ability to both sit everyone around a table and also have separate spaces if they desire. If we come back floating we will definitely try to stay here again!!!
THANK YOU Kevin for sharing what you appreciated about our home. We love it ourselves for many of the same reasons - the biggest one being able to share with our loved ones and friends and STILL have private space 😉 Hope you come stay with us again!
Fun Trip to Tahoe Thanks to the Hungry Bear Lodge!
We had a large group of people (and 3 dogs!) get together for a family retreat over the 4th of July holiday, and the Hungry Bear Lodge was even better than we all could have hoped for! From the beginning, the homeowner was amazing to work with, very quick with every response and always provided helpful information (we also received our deposit back in less than a week - great!). The home itself is perfect, and most of the previous comments have already mentioned the highlights: great location, well equipped, two lovely deck spaces and an awesome yard. There was no grass in the yard (hard to come by grassy yards in Tahoe I think) but the dogs didn’t seem to mind at all - it was great just to have all the space. The home had a welcoming cabin feel, but it also felt a lot larger than I would have guessed. There was plenty of living space to gather together but at the same time it was nice to be able to go off into various areas of the home when we all needed our own space to relax after a long day! I was a bit nervous to hear that dogs were only allowed on one floor of the house (this rule is in consideration for travelers with allergies, and I definitely can respect that) but it turns out that dogs are allowed on the main floor with the living space and there was tons of room for them anyway - and I have a really large dog! I was also a bit intimidated when I heard about the bear gate, but it is super easy to use and it was obviously nice to feel safe (although we didn’t end up spotting any bears anyway!). The only “issue” we had - if you can call it that - was we had trouble working the washing machine, but with a quick email to the homeowner (she responded almost immediately) our problem was very easily solved! Everyone in my family couldn’t stop commenting on how perfect this trip worked out, and it’s mainly thanks to the Hungry Bear Lodge. I have never used the HomeAway service before, but after such a great experience with the Hungry Bear Lodge I am inspired to use it again. And I certainly would recommend staying here, we are all so happy we did!
So happy your stay at our much loved Tahoe home was everything you hoped for. Its the wonderful home in the incredible Lake Tahoe that hosts our own multigenerational family gatherings summer, fall and winter. We all love it there and count our blessings we have it and are happy to share it with other families like your own. Hope you all come see us again, Maureen!!
College Friends Reunion Ski Trip at Squaw
A group of 18 of us decided to get together for a ski trip this winter and found this wonderful place to stay that's merely ~20 minutes away from Squaw Valley! The itinerary was worked out pretty last minute due to the large number of people involved, and we couldn't be happier to find Hungry Bear Lodge that is so well-equipped and relieves us from last-minute planning stress! Not only was Irene super responsive and accommodating throughout our communication but also did she provide us with a very detailed handbook on everything we needed to know about the house. The only slight issue we had throughout our stay was we couldn't contact the snow plow person to help us clear the snow outside of the house for our cars and had to do some shuffling, but we still managed to make it work. There is also a slight uphill coming in from Tahoe City and a couple of our small cars were having trouble making it back to the house after dinner, but it was fine after we put the chains back on and that might be something to be aware of. We received our security deposit back about 2 weeks after our vacation; while we had expected to receive it back a little sooner, it was not unreasonably long and we were overall very pleased with our experience at the Hungry Bear Lodge!
My Daughters Special Day
Recently my daughter got married and I arranged to rent the "Hungry Bear Lodge" for the occasion and what a great decision that was. It is exactly as advertised! Comfortable, spacious and convienent. It will always be a part of the special memories I have of my girls special day! Having so many family members together to share in the celebration was great. You will not be desappointed!
Well located, just south of Downtown Tahoe City, easy and quick in/out access. Close to grocery, restaurants, bike trail, lake, beaches, ski resorts
