We are just back from a brief stay at the Country House. It was old fashioned comfortable and charming. There all the amenities that were listed in the detail section of the Vrbo description. We walked to the Lake and back up over the hill to the over-sized model of the "crank telephone", as Bryant Pond was the last town in the USA to have crank phones. Thank you for sharing this lovely property with us for our mini-get-away with friends. It was perfect.
We had six people in Cottage, staying in conjunction with another 20 at the Maine House. The accommodations were attractive and comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen and nicely arranged deck complete with grill and comfortable chairs and tables. Communication with host was very effective. The major attraction was the beautiful lake and the access to the waterfront area featured at the adjacent Maine House.
We loved the setting and especially the hot tub!! So lovely and secluded. The house was well set up with a nice kitchen and bedrooms. We hope to come back!
My husband and my two brothers along with their wives went to Maine for a much needed vacation. The Country House worked perfectly for our group. The beautiful lake, hot tub and wonderful local countryside was all very nice!
Rented the house for a ski weekend with 3 adults and 3 kids. The space worked out great for our party’s size and everyone had beds. As other reviews mentioned the place is a little bit tired, but it’s an older house in the country so it’s what was expected. Everyone was looking forward to the hot tub after skiing and it was the reason for renting this location, but we didn’t find out until after arriving that the heater was broken and couldn’t be repaired during the trip. The owner was apologetic and amenable in working it out with us. Location was awesome for skiing! And lake access is very close for skating or ice fishing, or fun use in the summer.
The house exceeded our expectations (the pictures don’t do it justice online). Lake was beautiful, canoes being available was a major plus, and Tim was a very responsive host. Check in and checkout were seamless.
One downside was that the lakeside area is shared space with the other rental house - which is not a problem until it is. On the first day. the party staying at the other house took slight issue with us sharing the space, which led to an awkward start to the weekend. Wasn’t a big problem overall.

Relaxing getaway!
This is our second vacation in the Country House and our third overall in Tim's houses. We were pleased to see the newly refurbished wood floors and stairs, making the home even more quaint and nostalgic. We enjoyed skiing at Black Mountain with our family, hours of hot tub time, and a of course our adults night out to Oxford's Casino. We consider the customer service to be "excellent", as we never had any issues with the home. There was plenty of literature in the house to answer any questions from appliance use to how to start a fire in the fireplace. We can't wait to plan our next trip in warmer weather to make use of beautiful Lake Christopher. Thank You Tim.

Disappointing
We stayed at this property for two nights - a group of 9 women. The house was generally dated - the furnishings were in some disrepair, sofas were dusty (anyone sitting on them sneezed continually), carpet on the stairs was threadbare, light switches didn't always work, a bulb was out, table was very small for a house that sleeps 9.
The biggest challenge was that the hot tub was set at 68 when we arrived (February!). We turned it up and it came up to temperature later in the evening but it was later than when we wanted to use the hot tub. Then we found out that the rug in the kitchen was soaked - turns out the hose that was used to fill the hot tub had been put into a closet in the kitchen without being drained.
We just wanted a fun girls' weekend away. We still had a good time but the house isn't at all what I expected. It was just a bit rundown.
As a side note, the owner and the property manager returned my calls on that check-in evening after I called about the hot tub. They were concerned and responded promptly. However, earlier in the week when I called to confirm and ask for a later checkout, I got no response to emails or phone messages.

In response to your review, I want to thank you for your candid feedback about your stay. Our goal is to give you an experience that meets your expectations and through direct customer feedback , like yours we are able to improve our operation.
The Maine Country House is a rustic, authentic Maine lake house typical of others in the area. Our website provides many pictures of the rooms in the house. The furnishings are functional and in working order. Our cleaning staff verified that these furnishings are cleaned and vacuumed after each stay.
As for the hot tub issue, our staff member was instructed to turn the thermostat up to 98 degrees prior to your arrival. There was a misunderstanding of the instructions and, unfortunately, the thermostat was not set to the proper temperature. The hot tub required a few hours to heat up and then it was in fine working order for the weekend.
To address the late check-out comment, I don't recall receiving any calls or voicemail messages earlier in the week prior to your arrival regarding this request. After you and your group checked in and phoned me regarding the issue you were having, I responded in a timely manner, as you mentioned. It was at that time that I first received (and granted) the late check-out request and was happy to do so.
This is the first complaint we have received about this house and I have owned The Maine Houses for 20 years. If you look on our website, we have many testimonials from different groups that have enjoyed staying with us. I sincerely apologize that you and your guests had some issues but, in general, it seems that you had a good time.
This home was perfect for our family getaway; very clean, extremely well-equipped, wonderful hut tub and a cozy fireplace. We were well taken care of and enjoyed a very relaxing long weekend. Many thanks!
Quaint and affordable. A little outdated but didn’t take away from the great time we had. Definitely bring a mattress topper as the beds are a bit… stiff. Other than that great experience.

I was nice, everything worked .
House is so adorable but in need of some deep cleaning and some extra T.L.C.
We had a nice weekend at the country house. Due to the cold weather some of the pipes froze and I had to go into the basement and direct a heater and fan into a crawl space to help thaw them out. The house was sufficient for what we needed, but it is in need of an update. We probably won't be visiting that area of Maine again, but if we did I'm not sure if we would stay at that location. Not because of the house, more we would want to be closer to the ski mountains. It was very close to the Mineral Museum of Maine, which was incredible.
We had a blast at this cozy house in Maine! The pond was gorgeous & our favorite parts were the fireplace and hot tub. A very quaint and pleasant experience - we would definitely stay again.
The house had everything we needed to stay and cook meals and the hot tub was great. The fireplace was nice too.
The steps weren't shoveled of snow, some recycling was left behind from previous guests, and the oven was dirty enough we felt we had to clean it before use. Other than that, everything about the house was dated (except the new hot tub) but does the job. So good house to stay at but could use better maintenance.
