About The Owner

Three Dixon brothers own and built this home in 1997. We spent our childhood living in Wisconsin and made Family trips to the Rocky Mountians every winter to ski. This home was built to continue the tradition of allowing our families to continue that tradition. Steve and his wife Katy reside in Michigan with his family of 3 children. Phil and his wife Janelle reside in Minnesota with his family of 2 children and Joel has been a 25 year resident of Breckenridge and lives with his wife Jill and new born child in a nearby neighborhood to this wounderful vacation home.

The Owner purchased this house in 2002

Why The Owner chose South Breckenridge

Our decision to build this home needed to start with the location. Our requirements were a lot that was close and convenient to town yet offered peace and quite from the crowds of the ski resort. Mountian views and easy access to all the activitys that the area has to offer in both summer and winter were also a must. We found our lot in Blue River and construction started. Our building plans started with the need to comfortably sleep all of our families. We wanted to spare no expence in creating a vacation home that was as comfortable as our own homes. For this reason, we designed all the bedrooms to accomidate King sized beds. We also wanted a warm and comfortable environment, so we designed it to have large open spaces with two fireplaces and radient in-floor heat.

WOW! What a fabulous vacation home away from home. We spent 6 weeks this summer at The Sherwood House and thought we were in heaven! We had more than enough room for our family and friends to come and go. We loved being in the woods, sitting in the hot tub, and hiking around the area. Breckenridge is only 5 minutes away and has lots of great dining spots. Katy's brother, Joel, lives next door to The Sherwood House and was also a dream come true. He was so helpful with any maintenance issues.

Our vacation was so wonderful that we have rented The Sherwood House again for 6 weeks the summer of 2008!

Lots of room, but well worn...

  • 3 of 5

I have to agree completely with Joni G. The furnishings are very worn & dated. It's time for some real maintenance & up-dating. Beds, bedding, sofas, carpet...The only way to enjoy the deck is in the hot tub. It is tiny! Also, pretty difficult to find as the road is not clearly marked. Nice folks, but the pics have to be from at least 10 years ago.

Owner's Response: Thanks Sharon for your feedback. In May of 2017 we have made major investments in replacing all the furniture in the Great Room and Kitchen. New carpeting in virtually every room in the house and the entire interior has seen a fresh coat of paint. Linens are replaced almost every year. I hope you will try us again on your next trip to Breckenridge.

Want to Return!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful rental! We thoroughly loved this house! There were 6 of us and 3 dogs and lots of rooms for all! We had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms! The outside hot tub was definitely utilized and in such a lovely setting! The views outside were breathtaking. The neighborhood was just right for walking dogs and very peaceful. The house is not far from Breckenridge at all. Very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The heated two car garage was a real plus. We want to return to appreciate this house in the summer! Phil, the owner, was very pleasant to work with and very quick to respond to emails.

The house was great! Plenty of room for our group of 12. The house had everything we needed for the 3 day ski weekend. A 5-10 minute drive to the slopes as well as the town. Only setbacks were having to change out several lightbulbs that were burned out (including the lights outside by the hot tub), and the hot tub took almost a full day to heat up since the water temperature was set to low when we got there. Besides that, we couldn't have asked for much more. Would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Radhi, thanks for the review! Breckenridge can become traffic nightmare during the busy season with many coming ad going from Denver/Silverthorne/Frisco direction. My house is located on the opposite side of town making the commute not only quick, but very relaxing. The reason the hot tub was not at temperature was because we completely empty, clean and refill the hot tub for EVERY guests arrival. You happened to arrive on the same date that we had another guest depart which left little time for it to get to temperature. Although chemicals do a great job sanitizing, I don't personally like the idea of sitting in a tub that others have used, so I hope you found the clean, clear water to be worth the wait to get to temperature. Please come back again.

House was great! Disappointment with amenities.

  • 4 of 5

The Sherwood house was very roomy and inviting. Our family was very comfortable staying there. Major complaint is that WiFi was not working and determined that modem needed replaced. Rather than having Comcast come and replace, we were given the modem in a box and my wife and son had to spend time talking with Comcast customer service several times to get set up. We checked in Thursday and had WiFi on Saturday. Didn't like spending our vacation time having to troubleshoot. Comcast would have taken care of for $50.00 Also, Gas grill would not stay lit and the flood lights on the deck with the grill and hot tube were not working. I reported both and was told that the grill had always worked and that the bulbs probably needed replaced. No resolution to either.
