Perfect for our large family!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with his parents and our two daughters, ages 5 and 9, spent Thanksgiving at this wonderful cabin! The location was perfect. We were about 15 minutes from Helen and Cleveland, and right around the corner from Sautee Nacoochee. Our GPS wanted to bring us a different way, but Bonnie gave very detailed directions and we found it easily! The main floor bedroom was great for my father-in-law and his bad knees, and the girls and I enjoyed walking down to the water. We even saw two deer playing across the river the first day. This house is very stocked, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, we had to leave a day early due to a death in the family. We can't wait to return!

Nice Location - Cabin needs TLC

  • 2 of 5

This cabin is definitely in need of some serious TLC; however, the nightly rate mirrors the condition of the property. The cabin is secluded and on a nice deep stretch of the river. Pros include: working AC, on river, secluded, inexpensive. The cons include: spider infested (we killed 10+ and webs are EVERYWHERE inside), loose/unsafe decking, greasy hot tub water (and not hot water), overly worn linens with holes, uncomfortable beds, and overall not clean.

Owner's Response: The house is older , and deep in the woods, spiders are prolific, the small corner web makers, and not the big kind. Housekeeping has not been consistent this year, since I have had serious orthopedic issue to back it up. The hot tub water is changed regularly, and the temperature can be adjusted easily to hot! Linens , mostly towels ,are clean; some have bleach stains, discolorations. Most of my summer visitors are families with kids, who really play in the river and hot tub, and are not looking for luxury style, which season just ended. I am sorry you were disappointed .

Great quiet getaway

Great place to get away to. We enjoyed being away from it all, but also close to things to do. House had all kinds of things to keep you entertained. Hope to get back again soon!

Great location and setting but dirty and did not seem kept up

  • 1 of 5

House is close to everything and in a beautiful location. However, very disappointed in a lot of areas. Had to remove items from shelfs in kitchen to make space for food. There was a large number of spiders through out the home. Had to use couch and other mattresses to sleep as spiders were biting in beds

Mildew stains over bed upstairs

Bedrooms and downstairs bath had strong mildew odors

Whole cabin Needs a deep cleaning, bathroom floors and walls were very dirty. You could see that light surface cleaning was all that was done.

Bathmats were stained and did not look like they had been laundered between quests

Not sure linen was washed prior to our visit either, especially the extra linen in closets. They were rolled up in a ball on the floor along with pillows

It was a holiday week so could not find another rental in area

Overall rental showing age with dirt, grim , mildew and a number of large spiders that bit us when sleeping.

It did have good size rooms and deck was cared for. Because of the cabin condition, no food panty, smell, cleanliness and large number of bugs and spiders have to give this a low rating

Have used this site before with great success, this one however was not in good condition

About The Owner

I am a native Georgian, growing up on a farm close to the Athens, Ga area. After working in downtown Atlanta 20 years, I fell in love with the North Georgia Mountains and transitioned to this area by purchasing this lovely river house rental. Totally away from it all and a place to unwind from the busy city areas. A place to check out the most beautiful places Georgia has to offer, hiking, cycling, and canoeing.

It is definitely for the person who likes the outside and who likes to enjoy nature.

What makes this cabin unique

The house is on the Chattahoochee River, and accessing the river was a main reason I purchased this house. I spent a long July 4th tubing on the river , passing this house along the way and realized this is what I wanted for myself and as a rental for others to enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The guests left the house a total mess, moved stuff and did not return it, excess garbage, over 6 large bags, more guests than stated or just used all the extra beds and linens.

Helen,a German style town, is the main draw to this area. For summer, tubing in the Chattahoochee River is the ultimate, cheap cool activity. As fall rolls around, it is Octoberfest, from late September until first of November. There are numerous German restaurants and bars and the Festhall with nightly activities at that time.

For outside enthusiasts there is the Appalachian Trail and other hikes , mountain biking trails at Unicoi, and the 6Gap Century the last Sunday in September, starting in Dahlonega; another delightful mountain town to visit as well. The fall also bring the leaf peepers who enjoy the many rural roads to see the colorful season change. Of course the area is a big draw for Motorcycle riders for the thrill of curves and downhill. Winter sometimes brings snow, which is a lovely way to experience the mountains as well.
