About RC

I am a Dad with 3 children. I have been going up to the cabin since 1967, and my kids have been going up since they were newborns.

RC purchased this cabin in 1965

Why RC chose Northeast

I purchase the cabin from my two aunts, my uncle and my father when they inherited it from my grandmother after her death. I have been going up there since 1967.

What makes this cabin unique

Very close to the lake. No highway noise. Very private location. Cabin rates high on character and charm. Cabin is a great place to escape from city life and read, talk, sleep, walk, hike, play games, etc.

Pictures can't capture it

This cabin is the coziest place on earth and happens to be located on one of the best pieces of shoreline on the north shore. Close to a ton of cool things and 150% worth the cost.

Great location! Rustic, warm, and inviting.

  • 5 of 5

Amazing location! The cabin was perfect. It's rustic but very nice and inviting. It's what cabins used to be like. The shoreline is mostly level with solid rocks for easy walking. Having my morning coffee out on the rocks made me feel like I was in a Folger's commercial. It was perfect! There are many great trails in the area. If you like trails with a big woods feel try the Eagle Mountain trail. It's a bit long but the view from the top is amazing. It rivals Colorado. We also made it to the Trestle Inn for dinner. It's out in the middle of nowhere on long dirt roads (several miles) but it's a neat place. Bring cash or checks as they don't accept credit cards. They do have an ATM if needed.

Perfect North Shore getaway spot

  • 5 of 5

We escaped city life and stayed at Richard's family cabin for three nights in April -- even in the off-season, the deck facing Lake Superior was an amazing place to catch some sun, get caught up on our reading, and enjoy being by the lake. The interior of the cabin truly creates an indescribable warm feeling of coziness (authentic Danish hygge -- not the manufactured type that IKEA is selling these days) with the fireplace, the soft wooden floors, and the thoughtful use of space. We will definitely return and would recommend it to others looking for a chance to explore the North Shore.

Practical stuff: * We loved the location, it was about a 10 minute drive to Lutsen in one direction and a 10 minute drive to Grand Marais in the other direction.

* Richard was responsive and really easy to communicate with. Cell service is a bit tough -- 100% a benefit of the location if you ask me, but did take some thought if we needed to make a call. If you are travelling in the off-season, it is a good idea to call places to check hours and schedules since most businesses open on a limited basis. There is a house phone for local calls, but we didn't find a phone book.

* The kitchen had all of the items we needed for a three day stay and could support cooking all of your meals if you made that choice.

* We heeded the advice of bringing our own pillows -- it was a small price to pay for the privilege of staying in this gorgeous location.

Very nice, quaint, private, clean property in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience renting this property. Perhaps most importantly the description of the cabin perfectly matched reality. There were no hidden problems or incorrect descriptions of features or issues with the cabin. Everything was easy.

We struggled a bit with the inability to connect with the internet or receive consistent cell service. But this was our issue, as this is well described in the property literature and info from the owner. Other potential issues for others (not an issue for us) include limited parking options under snowy or muddy conditions, and the sleeping arrangements which are wide open (no rooms/doors).

The cabin was perfect for our family in every other way. It really fits the rustic up north and north shore vibe and it is a pleasure to stay there. The proximity to the water is outstanding (we actually found ourselves wishing for more wind so we could view and hear bigger waves crashing into the rocks). Although there are other cabins nearby, it is still very private. We wouldn't hesitate to rent this place again in the future. Thanks, Rick, for sharing your wonderful cabin located in a magical place.
