About this property

Beach House, located on a barrier dune between the ocean and Great Salt Marsh

The property is located on a quiet private barrier beach with Cape Cod bay in front and the Great Salt Marsh in back. It is the ideal place to watch birds and large ships coming into and going out of the canal. It is located in the historic town of Sandwich, well known for its beauty, historic preservation, Sandwich Glass Museum, and the Heritage Plantation. Decks almost surround the home with beautiful views in all directions. It is part of a single row of homes that stretch along the beach. There are 2/3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sun room, living room and kitchen. High Speed internet is available as well as Cable TV. Washer and Dryer are on the premises. Ideal family vacation home, casual, sunny, and immediate access to the beach and mud flats.

Please Note: Most guests stay for a week or two. In general a three week rental is the longest rental I will accept during the month of July and August due to the repeat demand on the property. I will consider a monthly rental in June if that is desired. I hope this helps you make the right decision for your family.

Renovations: This property was completely renovated in 2011. The house has baseboard heat and three wall mini-split air-conditioners, one upstairs and one downstairs in the livingroom and one in the downstairs bedroom. The kitchen, bathrooms, utility room and entire upstairs were new in 2011.

The house contains a washer and dryer and a place to fold clothes.
The views of ships going through the canal from the large kitchen windows are great.
The house has been completely re-sided and all new electrical and plumbing.

This was one of the nicest places we ever rented on the Cape. Communication with the owner was great- the property itself is situated so beautifully, with water all around. Birds, sun, sand, gorgeous rocks and beach. The house is roomy and very comfortable with all you need to cook, rest, play. Cozy nooks and nice larger family areas. Beds are comfortable. Spectacular!

My husband and I were celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary with coming to Cape Cod for 2 weeks. Our stay at this property was delightful. All amenities provided were in excellent order and we experienced nothing but happiness while we were at this property. We enjoyed the private beach, watching the large boats enter the harbor/canal and watching the seals swim by. The property is old but everything was in working order so there were no problems. Laura checked in midway through our stay to answer questions or address any issues we may be experiencing but none existed. It was very hard to leave and would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful beach house!

Beautiful older beach house in the perfect location. Very quiet street. We brought our golden retriever and the property was perfect. The neighbor also had a golden so they got along well. The only negative was that the house wasn’t very clean. The floors were sandy, cobwebs in the corners and some of the glassware were sticky. We washed everything before usage. We went there to relax and we did just that. The view and sounds of the ocean were perfect. We will return. Thank you!

Amazing time!

This beautiful house was perfect! You are off the beaten path here, it is a quick drive to nearby Sandwich, and sandwich has so much to offer and so many great restaurants! The porch, the views, the beach being just a staircase away is everything. The home has so much that you just need to bring yourself, towels and linens and everything else is at the house! Well stocked pantry and kitchen! The beds are great, the furniture available is perfect. The amazing breeze from the ocean is all you need to cool off the house. The salt marsh is the front of the house and the back is the bay/ocean! We loved walking on the beach. We even saw a few seals swimming! The area is very friendly and quiet!

A Special Place to Remember!

My sister and I spent a glorious five days at Cape Cod this May. It was even more special than we expected; not just four nights at the beach, but also the experience of this wonderful beach house. We got a taste of Laura and Jen’s hospitality from several correspondences before we went and there was a lovely note from Laura at the house when we arrived. From the moment we walked in the door we felt “at home”. Even my sister’s dog was so relaxed! The house is beautiful. The ocean can be seen from three sides. Sunsets and rises were breathtaking. I slept in the bedroom downstairs and my sister in the queen upstairs (she woke to a view of the ocean each morning). Both of us have back issues, but not at this beach house. The beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms were not only remodeled but also had special touches, the kitchen well equipped with wonderful appliances and everything you could possibly need to prepare a meal. There is even a new washer and dryer so we were able to pack light. When I looked for a place on the water that would let us bring a dog I feared that the house wouldn’t be clean. That wasn’t the case here; everything was spotless and there were no signs (smells, destruction, dog hairs) that dogs stay there. There was even a dog bed which our “Molly” enjoyed using as much as her own. The deck was so peaceful and we christened a new gas grill. The most interesting part of our stay was finding little treasures and surprises throughout the home. Artwork, little knick knacks, special treasures from the ocean, a fantastic tub upstairs and great shower down, books and games. You can feel the rich history and what seems like mementos of people who have stayed. If you are looking for a place where you can bring your family and dog, this is it! Not only do Laura and Jen go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, but it’s a unique beach house which will linger in your mind long after you have stayed there. Spacious and gracious

this large home is in a terrific location with lots of windows to enjoy the views of both the ocean and the salt marsh. Proximity to the beach ensured that we fell asleep and awoke to the sounds of surf each day. By far this home is the best stocked of any rental we have been to at the Cape and we took full advantage of the spacious, modern kitchen. Laura is a great and attentive host and shared some of the homes history with us. We will definitely visit again!

Beautiful house, spotless when we checked in, easy check in process. Beach is very quiet, house is in a somewhat secluded area, which was perfect for the summer of Covid19. We rented kayaks and paddle boards and had them delivered right to the house. The water is pretty calm so you can paddle out right from the beach. Air conditioning was great too - 2 AC split units, one for upstairs and one downstairs.

The house had all of the amenities we have looked for over the years. The private peaceful beach with easy access and view, cleanliness, comfortable beds, ac, washer/dryer, fully stocked kitchen and ability to bring our much loved dog! Laura answered any questions we had quickly and couldn’t have been more accommodating. We have some beautiful memories of our past week on the cape.

Great location but had some issues.....

We had a great week and the weather was perfect but I wanted to share our experience. Dishwasher and the trash were both half full when we arrived. The dog urine on the carpet downstairs made the entire lower level smell and it wasn’t until we searched around smelling that we were able to determine the cause. The owner was responsive trying to remediate the issue but also asked us to clean or remove it and put down new ones that she ordered to be delivered during our stay. There were dead flowers falling everywhere upstairs by the bed and on the dining room table which we had to clean. There is white dog hair everywhere including the sofas which we understand because it is dog friendly but there was a lot and it got on anything we wore that was dark in color. No dishwasher detergent-not sure if this was included but not something I typically would think I would have to pack. No air conditioning in the master bedroom made it very difficult and uncomfortable to sleep in for us and our 1 yr old son. The entire time we were pretty uncomfortable in there even with 3 fans running and the windows open at night. The bathroom sink is clogged or something and drains very, very slowly. I have emailed and messaged (Homeaway and the owner) regarding these issues and have not heard back in 72 hours….Hence the honest review on our stay. Spending the money we did we would not have expected to have issues like this during our vacation.

Beach House of my dreams

We are returning guests to this property, and we found it even cozier than before! The house has everything you need for your blissful and stress free stay, but it also has the right mood and feel. It's like a hug from a best friend or best relative, you feel at ease at once and you don't want to part. I hope we'll come back again soon!

I am a descendent of one of the founding families of Sandwich. Sandwich staged a re-enactment of the 1600s in the historic village and my daughter and I joined the fun pictured here with an actress portraying my ancestor Deborah Wing who is on the original list of founding families and the only female head of household. My grandparents had the original beach house built on land that was in the family. At that time there was no running water or electricity in the house. We had a pump at the sink and an outhouse when I was a child. Part of the outhouse still stands near the road and used as a shed now. I am very active in the community and a strong advocate for beach replenishment and historic preservation.

Why they chose this property

The property certainly has been modified over the years and is now a modern home while retaining much of the character of old. The fir floors in the center of the house are the original floors of the cottage and after sanding and polishing are still lovely.
The rest of the house is basically new as of 2011. I spend time myself there in the winter and enjoy the solitude, wildlife, and open skies.

What makes this property unique

The house is situated on Springhill Beach, a private beach close to the Cape Cod canal. You can walk down the beach towards the canal for about a half mile and pass all the homes on this beach and enter into the undeveloped salt marsh of the town. You will have to turn around at the Old Harbor inlet where you will see the well-known boardwalk that crosses over the salt marsh open to the public. The quaint downtown Main street of Sandwich is about 3 miles from the house with easy access to the mid-cape highway to takes you into Boston about 60 miles north of Cape Cod. On week-ends there is train service from Hyannis (20 minute drive) to Boston and back. We are hoping that soon that train will stop at the Sandwich train station. The train travels over the canal in Bourne on its way to Boston. Cape Cod is a vibrant summer community as a whole with lots to do and see in easy reach from the beach house.
