About the property

Condo, 3 Bedrooms , 3 Baths, Sleeps 6-7

If you’re looking for the perfect spot in Kona for your Big Island vacation, you’ve found it with our owner-rented home in the Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club. Our 3 bed – 3 bath condo provides guests three private sleeping areas and is ideal for families or up to 3 couples. The condo is centrally located in Kona just 10 minutes from Kailua and 20 minutes from the Keahole International Airport (KOA) in the Keauhou Resort area. Together, this location, the Kona Surf and Racquet Club complex and our upgraded unit offers one of the best vacation experiences on the Big Island.

We’re very proud of our condo and hope your vacation experience will be fit for a King!

Our two story third floor property has been tastefully renovated and furnished. The condo has wood floors throughout the living area, granite kitchen countertops and new appliances. There are three California King beds to provide ample space for guests of any size and the second floor suite with its own bath, TV, office area and two fans gives a larger group plenty of space to spread out. High speed wireless internet, cable TV and Hawaiian music on the stereo are standard as well.

There are eight large overhead fans to keep you cool on the warmest afternoons and the area is designed for good airflow with vaulted ceilings throughout. Of course, the lanai will provide the “coolest” area of all and has electric screens to block the indirect afternoon sun as well as an overhead fan.

We’ve also equipped the condo with everything you need for a great time including a full, well equipped kitchen, refrigerator with an automatic ice maker, dishwasher, tennis gear, snorkel equipment, beach chairs, boogie boards and shore fishing gear.

If you’d like some help with what to do in the area, we’d be happy to provide a list of our favorite things to do on the Big Island.

Lying on the ocean side of Alii Drive, the KKSRC is a gated complex consisting of oceanfront, fairway and garden condominiums. Our unit has a beautiful garden view with a lot of privacy relative to many others in the area. All units have oceanfront access providing an opportunity to stroll along the coast, fish or watch beautiful sunsets just 150 steps from the unit. The shoreline also provides good elevation to watch the whales on their annual visit to the islands during the winter months.

Although much of the waterfront is lava, there is easy walking access to a sand beach with tide pools just north of the resort area and the reef just off shore provides good shore fishing opportunities as well. The resort is directly on the ocean and as all shoreline in Hawaii is public you will have the same access to the beach and shoreline as those renting “oceanfront” units so you’ll feel free to walk anywhere on the grounds or the adjacent properties to the north where an archeological project is taking place.

At the center of the resort complex are three lighted tennis courts, a large pool and a covered pavilion while 3 common grilling areas are provided around the grounds. The tennis courts are guest-managed on a first come first served basis and basic tennis equipment is available in the unit. We’ve rarely seen all three courts in use at the same time and night tennis is both cooler (temperature) and cooler (more fun). Adjacent to the tennis courts is a large L-shaped pool with one leg of the L built for small children and the other for swimming. Showers and restrooms are available poolside.

For golfers, the complex is perfectly situated between the ocean and the Kona Country Club, famous for 36 holes of championship golf winding between the ocean and nearby mountains.

Keauhou rests peacefully at the southern end of Alii Drive. In Hawaiian, Alii means King or Chief, and for centuries this area was home to native Hawaiian kings seeking peace, beauty and respite. Alii Drive is the focus for activity in Kailua, just 5 miles north, but the action gets more relaxed as you work your way to the south end. Less than a mile away is King Kamehameha III Ave, a road that links Alii Drive to the mountain highway, allowing you quick access to your best routes either south or north along the Kona coast.

Within two miles of the KKSRC, you can find an amazing number of things to do. In addition to golf, off-site to the north, you can snorkel, swim, take a surfing lesson, kayak or just lay on the beach at the famous Kahalu’u Beach Park. It is known as one of the best and most protected snorkeling areas on the island and it’s less than a mile from KKSRC. Continuing north along Alii, there are a number of beach parks, each with its own unique features.

Going south, peaceful Keauhou Bay has a wonderful swimming and picnic area in addition to the local canoe club headquarters. There are only a few fishing charters that work out of this bay and we can help you make a contact with them if you’re interested in going after the big ones. Beyond the bay is a sacred Hawaiian area that is barren except for a foot trail that you can walk. You’ll see hand-built rock walls dating back more than 100 years and the occasional offering…right alongside a rock climber or cliff diver.

Finally, within walking distance, the Keauhou Shopping Center provides a great place to pick up your groceries, locally caught fish, sunscreen, beer and the flip-flops you left at home. There is also a movie theatre and a number of excellent restaurants. There is even a farmers market on Sunday with live music and many local products for sale.

Beyond the two-mile radius, the Kona coast offers a tremendous diversity of things to do. You might visit a Kona Coffee Farm, take a short tour and taste coffee made from peaberry, snorkel at the location where Captain Cook died in 1779, hike the mountains and shoreline along marked (and unmarked) trails, run on Alii drive (there are markers at each HALF mile), shore fish or charter a boat to catch a fish potentially larger than your rental car, walk to (nearly) deserted beaches, or sample the nightlife in Kailua town.

About Judy Berger

Bob and I are native Minnesotans and can really appreciate the warmth and beauty of the Big Island in the dead of winter. The surprise for us was how wonderful it is during the rest of the year as well.

The Big Island is our favorite vacation spot and we really enjoy providing our home to others so they can fall in love with it too!

Our goal in sharing our home is for you to have an experience you'll remember for the rest of your lives. We will gladly help you with activity ideas, local information and our favorite things to do so feel free to ask.

Aloha and Mahalo!

Why Judy Berger chose Kona Coast

We have vacationed on the Big Island of Hawaii for many years and had been especially happy when we stayed in Keauhou. We decided to make it our permanent vacation destination and share it with you. We live in Minnesota and particularly enjoy the 110 degree temperature difference between Keauhou and St. Paul in January.

Perfect! We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to our condo being lit so we could see versus fumbling for keys, it was much larger than we expected and very neat and clean. The directions and tips we received from the owners were so helpful too. We loved the giant patio, that it was fully stocked with everything we needed for the beach (chairs, boogey boards, cooler, towels, etc...) and the very nice kitchen and dryer/washer machine. The grounds of this condo are very nice and while there is no beach they have a pool, nice places to sit by the ocean, volleyball, tennis and patio areas with very nice grills. We will definitely be back here and next time might bring another couple along to enjoy this beautiful condo!

What a beautiful adventure!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our 30th anniversary in Hawaii, and this big, beautiful condo almost made us wish we'd brought friends! The information packet we received well in advance made our arrival (which was fairly late in the day) a breeze for the tired travellers that we were. This was a great place to stay! The condo is spacious with a beautiful decor, a very well appointed kitchen and all the amenities you may hope to find. The place was spotless. The bed was very comfortable. The pool and gardens on the property are stunning.

The fact that the owner gave us access to snorkeling equipment (in quite a variety of sizes) and beach chairs was fantastic: we didn't need to rent anything!

The location is excellent too. There is a wonderful mall nearby with shopping and restaurants. We were able to walk a short distance down the road to a beach that has the best snorkeling we've experienced - a multitude of fish and sea turtles not far from shore. We loved waking to the sound of the great variety of birds chattering away each morning. Then it was time to get up and make some of the famed Kona coffee we bought and sit on the lanai for a peaceful morning before we were off on another adventure. This was one of the best places we've ever rented! We tremendously enjoyed our stay here and will come back with more people next time!

Excellent owners. Nice home but could be better!

  • 4 of 5

The house is at a beautiful timeshare/vacation rental community right by the beach. The home is beautifully renovated and equipped with everything you need. The house is spacious that fit 6 adults comfortably and the loft upstairs provides additional privacy. The owners are very fast in responding to our e-mails, questions, and requests before the stay. They were also very accommodating with the potential change in our booking due to the Hurricane Madeline and Lester. We ended up keeping the original reservation, but we truly appreciate the owners’ flexibility and willingness to work with the customers.

We knew the unit has no AC, but we didn’t expect the temperature to be this hot when we visited Kona. The fans help a little, but not having AC has made the stay a bit difficult. There were also many bugs/insects in the house/on the carpet. Although that was expected given that it’s a tropical island, the amount was a little beyond some of my family members’ comfort level. Couple other notes: the condo is located on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator. Because there's no AC, all windows need to be opened to keep the air flows. As a result, it could get really loud at nights with all the birds and cars/motorcycles driving by. Overall, the owners are great to work with and the stay would’ve been great if the weather is cooler and the bug issues are fixed.

Owner's Response: Angela, Thanks so much for the feedback from your short stay. It's too bad you didn't contact us while you were having these issues, we could have helped you resolve them! As you can imagine, disruption of our perfect record of 5 STAR reviews since 2011 was a big deal in our house. We will use your comments to help us further refine our property description to make sure future renters know that it is a third floor unit (2 flights of stairs) with no elevator. Regarding the "bugs", they enter the unit from outside and DO NOT live in the building. Usually, their presence in the condo means that a screen door or window was left open for a period of time allowing these guys a way to get in. Again, we could have made some suggestions with this had we known you were having this problem. Finally, thank you for the nice comments about our condo. We work hard to make sure that all our renters have a fantastic experience when they stay in our home and if that doesn't happen for any reason, we want to know about it. Bob & Judy

Well Equipped Condo with a great location

  • 5 of 5

The Condo: Excellent layout as described. Not all condos at the Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club (KSRC) were created equal. This one has a large loft upstairs with a partition which almost creates another bedroom. The upstairs loft has a bathroom which you may not find at other KSRC 3rd floor condos. Although there's no view of the ocean, it is a short walk within the complex to the shore. The balcony has a peaceful view of the garden with many birds and mongooses to watch. Since we ate in most of the time, we appreciated the well equipped kitchen along with ice chests for outings. Additionally, there are some board games, boogie boards, snorkels, beach towels, beach chairs and fishing tackle for guests to use. Since it is on the 3rd floor, it may be difficult for people with limited mobility as there is no elevator. In our party, one person uses a cane but he felt the stairs had adequate railing to help support him going up and down the stairs.

The perfect location: We love to snorkel and the condo is situated in a great location for it. Kahaluu Beach (0.5 mi) is great for seeing turtles and lots of fish. 30 mins to the south is 2-Step (Honounau) or Captain Cook Monument which are both great for seeing wildlife. We saw spinner dolphins at Captain Cook where we rented Kayaks. The condo is also 30 mins away from Kohala area beaches and our favorite, the Mauna Kea Beach. Nearby there is a small bay and harbor where you can rent Stand up Paddleboards, Kayaks and go out with the Keauhou Outrigger Club. If agri-tourism is your thing, you can visit a chocolate farm, coffee plantation, or a honey bee farm nearby. There is a very convenient shopping center just down the road that has a Longs, Grocery Store, Cinema and Restaurants.

The complex: The KSRC complex has access to a small beach area that is almost private. Most of the shoreline near the condos are lava rock but the area at the end near the townhouses has the access to the small sand beach. This is nice for small children. There are tennis courts and a pool...both we did not use but looked nice. There are propane BBQs all over the complex but the condo is close to the large pavilion in the center that has 2 BBQs.

Why we chose this condo: The location was the primary reason as we like the KSRC. This condo was updated with very nice amenities and the owner quickly answered all our questions. We felt it was a real value and had everything we needed.

Beautiful Kona, Beautiful Condo!!

  • 5 of 5

This condo was perfect for what we needed during our stay on the Big Island! Our group was made up of 5 adults and 2 boys and we fit very comfortably in the condo. Many sleeping options and 3 bathrooms were great. The location was exactly what we needed, close to the ocean, close to one of the best snorkeling bays on the island and close to the major roads so we could get out and on our way. The beds were very comfortable and plenty of space for everyone. It was great to have boogie boards, beach chairs & snorkel gear all available for our use. The condo complex was very quiet with plenty of visitor parking near the unit. The guest book had an entry from someone that stayed previous to ours and they had named all the geckos that frequented the condo while they were there, my boys loved trying to figure out which geckos fit the name and descriptions in the guest book. The only thing I would point out is the unit does not have A/C which is common for Hawaii. I did not expect that to be a problem because there are fans in every room but we happened to visit during a hot streak so the condo was a little uncomfortable when we were getting ready for bed but it did cool down pretty quick. The owners (Bob & Judy) were quick to respond and great to work with! I would recommend this condo to anyone looking to stay in the Kona area. Aloha and mahalo to Bob & Judy for giving us a perfect place to stay while making memories we'll have for the rest of our lives!

Amazing place to stay set up for vacationing in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This was a delightful condo very close to the ocean. (the complex overlooks the ocean and offers perfect Kona sunsets). It is well maintained in a gated, quiet community. It features a pool, tennis courts, public grills and a wonderful Lanai on the condo itself with great things to play with at the beach already available. The location is first rate too. Many of the ocean/snorkeling tours leave from a location 5 minutes away. Many Kona Coffee farms are near as is the Captain Cook Memorial. It is near the main highway through Kona, and also near a grocery store, gas station, and several good restaurants. Bob and Judy are very accommodating and work hard to make your stay good.
