Nestled high on the bank of the Beautiful Elk River, there lies a 1,500 sq. ft. Hobbit Retreat carved into the hillside amid the Poplar trees. Enjoy spectacular views of the Elk River and be mesmerized by the white noise as it cascades over the bus-size boulders below the house. You can almost fish for the fabled rainbow trout from the living room or either bedroom, but there are plenty of good spots on the bank below. When the fair winds blow enjoy a real fireplace inside or on the covered outdoor living area, complete with a built-in gas grill, sink and 50" TV. Both bedrooms and foyer have 50" Samsung smart TVs and the living room's is 65". The play loft has a 40" Samsung smart TV with a PS4. The kitchen is stocked with everything needed for a banquet: a gourmet Zline range, double door fridge, wine (or beer) fridge, slow cooker, presto pot, toaster oven, programable coffee maker, and all the dishes. Or choose to cook outside on the built-in Bull-Stallion gas grill.

The Hobbit House is truly unique. The decor and furnishings are very nice, as well as he outdoor area. The river is more of a creek, but overall we really enjoyed our stay. We would definitely return.

Exceeded expectations

The property and area is amazing. We visited with our adult children and really enjoyed the stay. The pictures do not do it justice. Plenty of space and close to so many things to do. We would stay there again.

Can't wait to come back!

This was our second time staying, and just like the first it was an absolute pleasure! We had the opportunity to use both the grill and outdoor fireplace this time: 10/10, would recommend. Both the home and surroundings are beautiful, and we can't wait to plan our third getaway back at the Hobbit Hole!

Mountain fun

We really enjoyed our stay! The house is perfect and the owners have thought of everything. Comfy beds and seating areas, a well stocked kitchen and games for the little ones. We loved the river and enjoyed several nearby attractions. Thank you for sharing your house!

Beautiful and peaceful

We wanted to have a quiet place for a golf trip and the Hobbit House was perfect! Sit on that back patio in a rocking chair and listen to the babbling brook—-or walk down the hill and see if you can land a trout!

Little piece of Heaven!!

Adorable, awesome house!! The view, sound of the river, the cold water rushing over my feet while sitting on a river boulder and deer visits in the mornings were just what we needed!! We’ll be back for sure!!

Boys ski weekend

Great spot for weekend with the fellas. Everything feels very fresh and new. Fun decor and overall style. Patio fireplace/TV area was great! Only recomendation would be leave some coffee to go in the coffee pot. Will stay again when we go skiing.

Gift!!

This was a fantastic house! I loved the character of the house itself. It was so charming and had absolutely everything we needed and that kitchen was phenomenal. The proximity to the river was my favorite part! Listening to the water at night was just like a lullaby! This house was perfect for my family of 6 and I HIGHLY recommend!!

Peaceful

Quiet, beautiful and close to everywhere we planned to go. Loved the round hobbit door and unique features of the home. If you love to cook this is the kitchen for you. Sitting on the back porch drinking coffe and watching the trout in the creek in front of the house was special. Outside was as nice as the inside. Hope to stay here again in the future.

Nice once again

My wife and I have stayed here once before. This time we wanted to stay in the winter for a chance of snow. We got what we wanted. Snow and cold but the cabin was very warm and comfortable. The large windows made seeing the snowfall and the nature very enjoyable. I would recommend to anyone looking to relax. Close to town and all things Banner Elk.

Amazing Stay!!!

This Hobbit retreat was amazing!!! Very unique and updated with everything a 2023 hobbit would love to have in their home. The kids loved the loft with the PS4 and staircase. Units washer & 2 dryers were perfect for after skiing. Then to sit outside by the fire and watch movies while listing to the river was very relaxing. The heated floors were so nice after getting out of the bath. We are already planning our next stay here for the summer...

Awesome house

This house is awesome. Our group of 4 adults had plenty of room. The inside of this home is beautiful. It was very clean, you can tell that the owner cares for this place as if they lived in it. We enjoyed meeting with the owners and even got a chance to view their other property just up the hill. It was a lovely house built for a large group. I’m glad we got a chance to rent to his house. We will definitely stay there again. I would recommend this property to anyone.

Hobbit Hole Perfect!

The Hobbit Hole home was the best house I have ever rented. You might think this place is small because of the name but it was very spacious. Perfect bedrooms each with a large great bathroom. Large entryway with hooks everywhere for hanging all your stuff. We spent most of our time on the patio with a great kitchen, fireplace and TV overlooking the river. We saw the fireflies at night put on a spectacular show. What a wonderful theme for a rental home. All my friends want to stay here. Loved it! You will too.

Summer Break

We left upstate SC that was over 100 degrees and have had no rain in weeks! What a sweet escape to 75 degrees and light rain with intermittent sunshine! House was lovely and had great outdoor spaces.

We loved this neat hobbit themed house! The details were impressive. Very clean and comfortable! The river was fun and relaxing, my children enjoyed climbing on the rocks and wading in the water. I enjoyed the rocking chairs by the river. We hope to stay here again!

Quick getaway

We had a great weekend trip fishing and relaxing in this cabin. There is quite a hillside you have to climb to get to the water but we could not have enjoyed the place more. The only negative was the timing of trees being cut down all day likely planned before our late booking.

Such a unique experience. Gave a weekend stay to my family of boys who love The Hobbit and anything adventure. The set up inside is so cozy and we loved having the fireplace outside. They really thought of everything to make our winter stay cozy and enjoyable. Enjoyed being close to the ski slopes as well so great location for that and some good restaurants nearby but feel somewhat secluded when you’re at the house which was nice.

We own a cabin at the top of the mountain on the same property (also on VRBO # 1207941) and have always loved this beautiful riverfront spot. We wanted a house that would not detract from the idyllic riverside setting, so what better than a round Hobbit House!

Wat deze accommodatie uniek maakt

The moment you drive up to this cottage you start to feel enchanted. Step through the 7ft tall round door into the foyer and you'll be wowed by the scale and the attention to detail. The concrete walls built in to the side of the mountain shut-out the noise of the outside world while the windows on the river side let-in the light and open on the spectacular beauty of the river. Enjoy a book on one of the large rockers on the side porch overlooking the river. The rest of the story is what you make it.
