About Susan Hill

We are third and fourth generation Inverness vacationers.

Susan Hill purchased this house in 1972

Why Susan Hill chose Inverness

We built this house to take advantage of the beautiful views and forest and because of the proximity to the beaches on Tomales Bay.

What makes this house unique

Our house is made of wood with great expanses of glass, so wherever you are inside you can see the sky, forest or water. The high ceilings and different levels give a great sense of space.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Oakland, California

Fantastic house with authentic character.

  • 5 of 5

We loved your house and had a great time exploring the area. Kids (7 and 9) were truly inspired by Pt. Reyes. The house had an authentic 70s California vibe that took me back to when I was my kids' age! There must be endless memories for the original owner/builders! Side Note: I had a lot of fun putting the loaded 50 CD changer on randomize and then playing cards with the kids while it was raining outside...perfect soundtrack to compliment the whole experience!

Even though the vibe was 70s, the house has updated appliances, plenty of pots and pans etc in the kitchen, and comfortable beds.

Really perfect for our long weekend getaway adventure in the Pt. Reyes area.

Last note, if you are getting groceries, skip the Inverness Store that is closer and go instead to Inverness Park Market which is a little further down the road but world's better in quality.

beautiful home, great location

  • 5 of 5

I agree with other reviewers - the pictures do not do this place justice. Beautiful well-kept property and grounds. So quiet and tranquil. Views from the home and deck/hot tub are amazing! Kitchen is nicely stocked with spices and cookware. Hot tub was great and very clean - but please take the owners advice and start heating it up right away, it takes awhile! Excellent, fast communication and they even accommodated a early check in. Location was awesome - right up the road from chicken ranch beach where you can put in your kayak and short drive to point reyes trails and tomales bay. Also very close to Inverness Park Market (limited but quality groceries and yummy breakfast/lunch) as well as the more fancy restaurant at Saltwater. I told my husband when we arrived - this has been my favorite vacation home rental so far (and we've done a LOT). We will definitely be back!!! Thank you for such a wonderful weekend!!!

Very good house with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

Great secluded place and very well equipped house with all you need. Comfy beds, good kitchen tools. ( rare in holiday homes), nice shower etc. The house is well positioned between beaches, trails and PRS. Only thing we wondered why the owners put the open fire at an odd place, opposite the stairs?

We can recommend this house strongly.

A magical stay in a design home above Tomales bay.

  • 5 of 5

Sometimes the cliche "pictures do not show the beauty of the place" is very appropriate. The home of mrs Hill is a fantastic, all wood and glass cottage lying in complete serenity above Tomales bay. The house is in Seahaven, which is a very tranquil part of Inverness, all woodland, deer and turkey buzzards. There are three houses nearby but none has a view into the property. The property itself is a DREAM. It is clearly somebodys beloved summer house and NOT a typical rental. There are pictures of the family that owns it and poetry books, and You may use the telescope and walking stick. Almost all walls consist of redwood and glass and the house is exquisitely designed so that the beauty of the outside always is present. The views from the huge two storey living room are to die for, and are just as gorgeous from the bedroom. The Patio and hot tub are excellent. The kitchen is spotless and I hope guests continue to try to keep it so. The floors on the upper storey have wall to wall carpeting which is perhaps a little retro, but it is a very nice feeling when You walk barefoot on it. I clearly had the impression that I was a guest at the cottage of a very good friend. You who are fortunate enough to spend a week here should treat this magical place as the place of privilege it truly is. Use, enjoy, but never destroy it, nor the serenity of the place. It is an ideal retreat for a couple and will definitely bring back any romance lost between you. I used it as a base for attending a convention in San Francisco and commuted every day. If You leave at 6AM You are in the city center 730 AM. So it is perfectly workable to use this rental whenever You attend something in SFO. Highway one is, however, not for the easily car is VERY winding. The restaurant Saltwater is very good, which is just a couple of miles away, as well as the market in Inverness Park a few miles further to the south. The Palace Market in Point Reyes caters to all your needs and there is the Cowgirl creamery a block away. Mount Tam Triple Creme is the most delicious cheese money can buy. The house also has a large collection of information about the area and several books covering the subject. You may perhaps wonder about safety? I assure You that You do not even THINK about anything untoward happening. You just revel in the bliss that You feel. Downsides? The Weber grill in the garden has a handle that gets hot so You need to use a stick to lift it. That is the ONLY downside.

The perfect place for a perfect weekend.

  • 5 of 5

We are 3 active women who were there to celebrate a special weekend. The place was jaw-dropping from the moment we drove up. The views were great, the house so well placed, the grounds lovely. The inside is mostly a kitchen and a three tiered living room with floor to ceiling views. The bedrooms were fine but the place to be was the main room. All very well thought out but not pretentious. Be sure to check out the playlist in the CD player. If you were alive in the 70's you are going to rock out! Also, check to see if there is night kayaking while you are there - a very cool experience. And lots of great hikes just minutes away. We would (and already have) recommended this house to friends.
