Brook Ness house is handcrafted and well situated for exploring the pristine nature of Point Reyes National Seashore all around you, Tomales Bay cove beaches to Pacific oceanic beaches, whale watching, wild flowers, mountain biking, bird watching, sailing and kayaking. This is one of the iconic, true Inverness homes in an area very like an old English village, with huge trees and shingled houses. It's only a 5 minute stroll through First Valley to town shops, oysters at Salt Water restaurant and Tomales Bay.
Or going feral, you can cross the footbridge near the house, hike up the mesa where you'll find myriad trails climbing Mount Vision to kettle ponds and sweeping views of the headlands. The house is also perfect for cozy dinners, games, movies, reading and relaxing with loved ones.
This is a great place for a family, at the end of a short lane, safe from road traffic. There is a toy room, shared tennis courts nearby, and in fair weather an open outdoor space for al fresca dining under a live oak. The hot outdoor shower makes it a breeze to de-salt after a day at the beach, and the hammock aloft the stream is a dreamy reading spot.
Owner prefers to be paid by paper checks. This saves on fees and can be sent along with usual contract. (A small quiet dog is okay, but no unruly or loud dogs allowed.)

We are a family of avid outdoors-folk, sailors, hikers, naturalists.
Margaret purchased this House in 2001
Why Margaret chose Inverness
We marvel at Point Reyes and the choices of fun fresh things to do in this boundless and well-protected natural preserve.
What makes this House unique
Heart's Desire hikes, Bodega Bay for a tour of Hitchcock's set for The Birds and crab salad in town, oysters at Hog Island, dinner in Point Reyes, the local farmer's market on Saturdays, walking Kehoe Beach for big tumbling waves, reading the paper at Drakes, blackberry picking in September...the list goes on and on!

Great spot for weekend getaway with friends!
Loved our stay in this very unique, very earthy home (sophisticated cabin??) in Inverness. The grounds are gorgeous and the surrounding nature couldn't be better - especially with some lush green springtime hills and wildflowers! Would love to come back again!
Great for a group
The 8 of us had a warm, comfy stay. The beds are the best and we had plenty of room in the kitchen, dining and family room. Quiet location, away from noise. However it was easy to go wherever one would want. Although at first it seemed a bit older than the pictures, we loved the hominess and comfort of the home.
Lovely, rustic home in a beautiful setting with many great features and amenities.
This home was very comfortable for our large family gathering of 6 adults and 2 children, with all the space and amenities needed (and then some). It was located in a beautiful setting among large trees and a lovely neighborhood. The rustic, arts and crafts feel of the house was part of its welcoming charm. We were within easy distances of many great spots accessible within an hour's drive or less, and the neighborhood invited many walks in every direction. The neighbors were also very nice and welcoming. The kitchen was especially well stocked with utensils, flat ware, pots and pans, etc. for any kind of meal. The house accommodated everyone comfortably in a very large beautiful living room and den area for dinner or just hanging out and also accommodated everyone finding a more private space and getting away from the crowd, which was especially helpful for the younger ones in our group. The knock off a 5 rating was for (1) the fairly basic bathrooms and (2) the master bedroom was the only bedroom that was really beautiful.
Margaret was a pleasure to work with and was very accommodating of our needs.
Beautiful peaceful home. Thoughtful owner.
Authentically Groovy Coastal CA Style
From the repurposed old growth lumber, to the stained glass windows, to its location in a riparian zone, this place has a wonderful slightly nautical and slightly 70s Marin vibe. The house is pretty harmonized with the natural surroundings. Cozy spot for playing board games by the fire.
I hope you return sometime Michael, you were such awesome guests! And I will give you the buddy rate:)
Perfect for a getaway!
My friends and I had a wonderful time here. The grounds are lovely, the house is well-appointed, and had plenty of private sleeping options for adults. Communication with the owners was timely and clear and there's a great binder of local information. This is a house that feely homey and well loved.

Additional information about rental rates
Paying by paper check saves both guests and hosts more service fees, so we much prefer that mode. We send you the usual contract to mail back with checks, very simple and avoids extra costs :) Please let me know your dates/guest number/adults & kids. If you are just a couple, the base rate is 350 per night. This is a rare, original Inverness house, but not a party locale. One small and quiet dog would be considered, but no barkers out of consideration for neighbors :)
