About Darrell Kirk

The owner of 'Treat House' enjoying the Puget Sound while hunting for 'Dungeness Crab'. 'We are very fortunate to live just minutes from the Puget Sound and have created a lifestyle around it. We love Salmon fishing, Crabbing, and watching all the wildlife in and around the area.' 'We have also taken up the sport of 'Stand Up Paddling', a new type of Surfing where you stand up on the surfboard and paddle. They just opened a 'Stand Up Paddle' shop about 3 minute drive from our home, so guests to our home have had the opportunity to try this new sport. Some of the pro riders in the area watch the ship and freighter schedules closely so they can surf the wake these huge ships produce as they ply their way from all parts of the world into Seattle' 'We never get tired of the 'Ballard Locks' which is about a 3 minute drive from our home. In addition to the 2 locks, there are large, wonderful gardens there. In the Summer you can hear a variety of bands in the 'Summer Concerts at the Locks'. Watching the large and small boats go through the locks is amazing and I have had the opportunity to see an entire house go through on a barge. They tilted the house via ballast in the barge to tilt the entire vessel. On another note, I would have loved to have seen the large 'Sturgeon' fish my wife saw in the locks swimming with hundreds of Salmon. The Whales have also come closer to the area and I saw 3 large pods of Killer Whales just off the shore about 20 minutes north of our home. Back to the Ballard Locks, there was a large whale spotted just near the locks feeding on Salmon just a few months ago.' 'We are jaded living here for almost 10 years now and forget how beautiful a place this is until we talk with guests who visit. It is just wonderful reliving our first times here through the eyes and stories of our guests.'

Darrell Kirk purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Darrell Kirk chose Seattle

We choose this area as it is very quiet and within walking distance to the Puget Sound 'Ocean'. It is also easy to walk to coffee shops and restaurants.

What makes this apartment unique

Short walk to Puget Sound and Salt Water beaches at Golden Gardens Park

2 minute drive to downtown Ballard, Seattle's most popular part of town.

3 minute walk to Caffe Fiore, voted #1 coffee shop 2 years in a row.

Several bus lines are located within 2 blocks of Treat House.

Enterprise Rental Car is located less than a mile away. In addition, they will pick you up from Treat House and drop you back off.

Neighborhood is very quiet and you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Olympic Mountains throughout the neighborhood.

There is ample parking in the street and this unit also has a private parking space near the entrance.

A poem was written by one of our guests and sums up the Treat House Experience:

So Happy Up Here

Walking in mist for the morning news; Thoughts drift along to older mews. Not long ago a playground for Treat; Horses and hunting dogs kept a beat. Then up to 85th the trolley ran; Houses rose as they cleared the land. Loyal was born that very same year; The neighborhood was christened with a cheer. Treat blessed us with Gardens by the water; The beach bore the name of his daughter.

Sweet aromas from Larsen’s fill the air; Then The Fresh Fish Company, what a pair! Up hill and down the school children go; Every shade of the rainbow they glow. Mom, dad or caregiver at their side; Love watches little feet scamper inside. Nights so quiet and sidewalks so clean; Not far above the Ballard Ave. scene. On the walk back, friendly faces abound; So happy we ended up in this town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a poem written by an out-of-town guest who stayed at Treat House. The poem was also entered into a competition here in Seattle. It so epitomizes Treat House and the neighborhood:

Great stay in a quiet neighbourhood.

  • 4 of 5

Quiet little place that served us well. Be sure to read about the pace prior to booking, as there are no cooking facilities or cable tv (if that is important to you). We were prepared for this so it wasn't an issue. Saying that, Darrell was extremely friendly and the place was great for us. He made sure everything was great and ensured we had contact info in case we needed to contact him. I would recommend the place as a good place for couples.

Great value

  • 5 of 5

This cozy little place was perfect for our week in Seattle. The place was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. The little nook with an extra bed was perfect for little kids. The place is small, but we we're busy during the days so it was fine for us, and for the price I don't think you can beat it!

Property was ok, needs to label the two units to avoid confusion.

  • 2 of 5

The room was ok. There was some confusion as to not knowing there was more than one unit and the property owner did not handle professionally. He seemed confused as were we!! A bit sketch being in the "alley way"....guess that's city living! Glad to be home to the country!!

Owner's Response: Marie, directions to your unit were very clearly explained on the check-in email. This is a vacation rental and there are always explicit instructions given by owners to guests on how to check in. This is documented on the VRBO email exchange between the owner and guest. As you said, you did not check your email and only wrote down the address. You were very sorry the next day about not checking your email and I am very surprised about your review. Your unit was especially easy to find as you have your own private parking space located about 10 feet from your front door. Best of luck to you in your travels going forward and hope you will give our vacation rental another try in the future.

Private, Clean, Studio Apt.

  • 3 of 5

The apt. Was private, to the back of the house, in a nice, quiet, residential, area. Well suited for a couple, that is only staying a couple of nights, since it only has a refrigerator, microwave, electric coffee and electric water maker. There isn't a sink or cook top in the kitchen area. The bathroom has a deep.tub on a platform, that you have to step over and into, in order to use the shower. One has to be in good physical shape to do this. We also experienced poor T.V. reception. The owner was very pleasant, and open to suggestions. We did have a pleasant week, visiting our Grand-daughter.

comfortable and a pleasure

  • 5 of 5

I was very happy with the place. It was the right size and in the right neighorhood. The owners were very friendly and were there to help if I needed it. I particularly liked the french doors that opened to the patio and allowed the outside inside. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. It also had a jacuzzi bathtub. Great. I would definitely stay there again.
