About this property
Rent the Entire Historic Inn in Downtown Marshall
This listing is for private group rental (full property buyout) so the whole property is yours but the Inn is alternatively available for individual room rentals. This renovated seven-bedroom/six-bathroom mansion was built by the Biltmore's supervising resident and completing architect, Richard Sharp Smith. A short walk from charming, walkable Marshall, NC on the French Broad River with its cafes, restaurants, shops and brewery, and only 25-minutes from downtown Asheville, the Marshall House Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Marshall House Inn is conveniently located between Asheville and Hot Springs. You will be a short drive from the music of Asheville, the Appalachian Trail and the Great Smokies in the middle of the Blue Ridge mountains. Whether you want to take in the breweries, galleries or shops of Asheville, visit the Biltmore House, spend time outdoors or just relax, you’ll not find a better location from which to start. With over 55,000 acres of National forest you’ll find lots of opportunities for whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, biking and zip lining.
With 7 bedrooms, up to 20 guests (plus young children) can stay on property based on two guests per bed. There are 6 King beds, 2 queen beds, and two optional queen sized pullout sofas (sofabeds are an optional add-on). With a living room on the ground floor and the second floor, dining tables to accommodate 16 guests (a main dining room table for eight which is open to another two tables, each seating four, in the adjacent living spaces), a game room, fire pit, and 7 bedrooms/6 bathrooms, there are enough spaces for your large group to both come together and spread out as desired. There's also a newly renovated flex room above the game room which is an ideal space for yoga, an artist retreat (based on approval), mobile massage and other group activities!
If you would like to hang out around the house, there's plenty to do between the many books to read on the 50' covered patio overlooking the French Broad River, enjoying the 65" Samsung smart TV and games in the cozy second floor living room, cooking on the six-burner gas stove or on the outdoor Weber gas grill. On the other side of the property you can roast s'mores by the fire pit, watch TV while choosing between a game of ping pong, skee-ball, giant jenga, chess and poker. Want to make some time for wellness? Enjoy the flex space for yoga (mats provided), book a mobile masseuse for your group, use the space for an art retreat (contact us to discuss retreat details). We hope to host you and your group soon!

About the host
Hosted by Lindy
I'm a Cornell Hotel School grad with 20+ years in hotel operations, catering and events. I live nearby with my husband, one year old daughter and Australian Shepherd. I used to travel around the world for hotel opening logistics but wanted to focus my energy closer to home as we looked to grow our family. We purchased the magnificent Marshall House Inn in 2022 and love having guests stay at this fabulous historic home that has been renovated with all of the modern comforts. The Inn is permitted to host weddings/events, send me a message if you would like to discuss!
Why they chose this property
The Inn has so much beautiful history and is a unique gem, preserving its historic nature while being renovated with all of the modern comforts. And being just a few minutes walking from downtown Marshall and its shops and restaurants, coined "Magic Marshall," is such a treat. Then to wind down after a long day, relaxing on the porch with enough space for your whole group as the sun sets over downtown and the French Broad River is really something special.
What makes this property unique
The inn and the outbuilding provide so much room, 5,000 sq ft worth, and there are so many gathering spaces. There are six bathrooms on property, most all en-suite, making for a much more comfortable stay than most big group home rentals.
With downtown Marshall and all of its offerings a short walk away, plus all of the Inn's gathering spaces, two living rooms, the 50' front porch, game room, fire pit and yoga/flex room, there's really so many options for your group to gather together or spread out and explore!
If you enjoy history, the Marshall House Inn is a unique mansion built as a private residence in 1903 and listed on the national register of historic places. Designed by the supervising and completing architect of the Biltmore Estate, Richard Sharp Smith, the house is built in the English vernacular style. The house was converted into a ‘Tourist Home’ in the 1920s and has been welcoming guests to Marshall ever since. With a major renovation in 2016, the Inn was refurbished in 2022 by Lindy Paz, a graduate of the Cornell Hotel School with nearly 20 years of experience in hotels, food and beverage and events.
