Bayfield House is great in every way, especially for a large group

This was a 3-generation family gathering, so 10 adults (20-70), 2 teens, and 3 children (11, 9, 3). There are two excellent gathering spaces, one big enough to accommodate all 15 comfortably when necessary--and we squeezed 15 around the table for some meals--and a smaller room with a large TV, which we designated as the devices room in order to keep the larger room device-free. Communication with the owner was quick and always helpful. We slept comfortably. The grounds are beautiful and spacious, accommodating a few family football matches; the Flaggy Shore is a short walk away and endlessly fascinating, leading on to a scenic one-lane coast road great for walking. While we used Bayfield House as our base for exploring the greater Burren area, down to Ennis, across to Miltown Malbay, and up to Doolin and Ballvaughan, really you wouldn't need to do much more than wander the little peninsula west of New Quay to have a rich and relaxing holiday. And it starts with Bayfield House.

Family trip of a lifetime @ Sea Mist

We absolutely loved our week at Sea Mist cottage. It was perfect for our entire family of six, including my husband and I, my Mom, Brother, and our two teenage boys. The cottage was decorated so well, was so welcoming and comfortable, clean and spacious! It was fully equipped with everything we needed to enjoy our week as a family. The views were absolutely spectacular. We loved riding our electric bikes into town and throughout all the bike routes in the area. We thanked ourselves for selecting the electric bikes on the way back up the hill to the cottage. Something we highly recommend for other staying at the cottage. We couldn’t imagine taking that trek back up to the cottage on a normal bike! Sea Mist cottage was perfect for us to find time together as a family at the dinner table, enjoying the view outside, or just chilling in the living room. The description of the bathroom situation could be a little bit better on the listing. Explain that there is only a toilet and sink in the upstairs bathroom next to the two bedrooms up there (all 3 showers are on the ground floor). So if people staying up there want to take a shower, they need to come downstairs. The only thing we couldn’t really figure out very well was the combination washer/dryer. The binder of information on all the appliances was great, but no matter what setting we used, we never could seem to get our clothes all the way dry. Other than that, we absolutely loved everything else about the cottage.

A taste of Rural Ireland,

James was the consummate host. While the unit could be called country cottage simple, the welcome was all one might expect in the form of warm Irish hospitality. Situated on the outskirts of Mountshannon, you do need transport, but with car in hand you will be able to visit the highlights of the region. just bare in mind local 'R' roads can be narrow with high hedges, and meeting commercial traffic might test your nerves. However, think cautiously, drive slowly and all will be well. The nearby Lough is very picturesque, and you can walk to a small port where the view is across to Holy Island. We had one mishap, while enjoying the the best of Irish hospitality, but we all caught Covid.... However, James and the neighbors could not have been kinder, supplying us with books, games and veggies from their garden to sustain and aid our recovery. Thank you. Rod Sandra & Miss Flora

Christmas in Famore

The Stone House was a wonderful place for us to spend our Christmas away from home. We'd been visiting Ireland and staying in places with slightly closer quarters, so it was nice to spread out a little and have some privacy, yet at the same time, the communal living room/kitchen/dining area gave us some wonderful family memories. The Burren landscape was phenomenal! We walked the winter beaches everyday and my husband Brian did a bit more exploring rambling up the hill behind the village. The kids (17, 19, and 20 ) and I did a Christmas Day plunge at Fanore Beach. We met some locals that were very fond of the Lightfoot Family. Pat at O'Donahue's was lovely, and we met one of the twins and had a nice chat with him on Christmas Eve. at the pub. Coming from the Pacific Northwest prepped us for the weather, but it did not prep us for the ever changing light. We were constantly taking in the shifts in color over the Atlantic and the surrounding hills. This has been something we've noticed everywhere we've gone in Ireland, but it was particularly striking at Fanore.
