This is a wonderful cabin. Its much more spacious then the pictures even show. We had plenty of room and everything was very clean. There were plenty of good knives and kitchen pans to cook with. The cabin was very well equipped. Marilyn was very quick to help us when a smoke detector was chirping. Marilyn is a wonderful host and I highly recommend staying at this beautiful cabin. Perfect location for skiing at Monarch.
We had an issue with a previous booking on VRBO and Marylyn came to the rescue with her beautiful home by the Arkansas River. Her home is just as described, however, the pictures do not do it justice. Her communication skills were above par and her kindness to us has not gone unnoticed. There was more than enough room and the decks and views were vacations in themselves. It’s an awesome location for fishing and hiking and enjoying the small local towns. We would love to return to this lovely retreat.
The Taylor House wa a perfect getaway for our ski weekend. The house has plenty of space and beds. The location couldn't be closer to Monarch Mountain. Marilyn was an attentive host before and during our stay. We highly recommend this property.
Beautiful mountain cabin with amazing views. The location was so convenient. Very clean, wonderful amenities, and an amazing check-in process. Our stay was incredible- thank you!
Beautiful home with plenty of space for multiple families. Bring your sleds in the winter and you won't need to leave the house. Super close to Monarch. A wonderful place to stay!

Sarah,
It was an honor hosting your party! Thanks for sending you family photo! It looked like everyone was having a wonderful time with the sleds? I had left sleds on the front porch in October. They have disappeared, and may be buried under the snow? I hope you will return in the future?

Thanks for staying in our Home!
Beautiful cabin nestled in the trees with the river below to mask any sound of traffic. Convenient location for trips to Monarch, Poncha, Salida, & Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. Everyone in our party unanimously agreed that we should come back for another stay! Thanks, Marilyn!

Josh thank you for the wonderful review! Will be happy to host you again!
We wanted a mountain stay for all of the family to get together and enjoy a reunion-of-sorts. This cabin had everything we could hope for. The kitchen had dishes, glassware, pans etc. which was important to us as we love to cook big meals to share time with each other. We will definitely be booking this lovely home again.

Fun, Relax, Clean, and Memories Made Here
This cabin was wonderful. It was stocked with everything you need, and I’m talking everything! Bring your own food and you’re ready for a very nice and relaxing stay. It’s beautiful and extremely clean. Stream right off the back porch, hiking, biking, ATV trails nearby, fishing, etc. I highly recommend this cabin!! You’ll enjoy your stay!

Ms. Lil,
In Louisiana we believe in Langniappe! This word was borrowed from Louisiana Creole French lagniappe, from Spanish la ñapa, a variant of yapa (“a small gift or additional quantity given to a valued customer, a lagniappe”), from Quechua yapa (“addition, increase, supplement; lagniappe”).
So glad you chose our home and ENJOYED your stay! Thank for writing your review.
The cabin was beautiful and spacious for my family. It was not very baby friendly but we made do. Bring a portable crib and high chair if you’ll need one. Otherwise it was perfect!

Caitlin,
Thank you for your review. I am hoping to bring a portable crib and high chair on my next trip to my home. Then I will change my listing to allow babies.
Thank you, for staying in my home!
The house itself is very nice with PLENTY of space for several families. It is well appointed and is located near a stream with relaxing porches and beautiful scenery. We were just 2 couples who needed a COVID summer getaway. Lots of hiking and mountain biking in the area. Everything from check-in to check-out went smoothly! The property owner checked on us several times and was always willing to answer any questions we had. Great time!

Thank you so much for your great review! You were a delightful guests. So glad you had a great time. hiking, mountain biking, and relaxing with the stream and scenery. Stay safe!
Beautiful home only minutes from Monarch Mountain. Clean and cozy with amazing views and plenty of room for two families. Loved the 6 queen beds for all the kids downstairs instead of the tiny bunk beds you usually find in short term rentals. Marilyn checked on us before and during our trip which was lovely. She is not kidding about needing 4WD in winter! Even with AWD and snow socks for the tires we had a little trouble getting in and out of the neighborhood in the very snowy conditions.

Rachael,
Thank you for your review and compliments on my home! Hope you will return in the future!
We have been making our annual pilgrimage to Monarch Mountain for several years. This particular trip was made awesome by Marilyn and her amazing home. It had everything you could possibly need and was in spotless condition. During the winter we basically ski, eat, sleep, repeat...but this trip we enjoyed "family game night" at the large dining room table every evening. I cannot say enough good things about the property and the surrounding area (sounds of the South Arkansas River just below the deck, tucked away location, quiet, etc). I'm hesitant to share the existence of this perfect gem, but Marilyn deserves to have this place occupied 52 weeks a year. The opportunity to make memories with the folks you love should always be treasured and we look forward to many more memories at this property. Cheers!

Howard,
Thank you so much for your very nice review!! So glad, you and your family enjoyed your stay and made memories to last a lifetime. It is my heavenly place to stay for "Serenity". It was a pleasure hosting your family! I hope you will return in the future. Cheers!
We enjoyed our stay at this property. The house is very large and would accommodate a large group. We were only 2 couples and limited our use to the 1st floor; but, the two bedrooms and baths we did use were very spacious and comfortable. The back deck was peaceful and the views were beautiful. We could hear and see the stream running on the back of the property which added to the Colorado atmosphere we love to visit.
The check in process was very easy and Marilyn was a pleasure to talk to and work with.
The neighborhood was quiet with semi-paved roads that allowed us to take walks when we were at the home and had a few minutes to explore the area and relax.
I would recommend a thorough deep cleaning of the home. Particularly the floors, baseboards, closets, corners... etc... basically, the "nooks and crannies". Marilyn doesn't live in the area and depends on a service to clean and maintain the home so while it was basically clean, it wasn't "completely" dust-free or deep-cleaned.
That being said, we would definitely stay here again.

Amgeline,
I am so sorry about the dust in the nook and crannies! I just went to my home last week and found dust too! I called my cleaner to come inspect the home. I went around the home with a flashlight to show her the dust. I told her guests do not want to come in and see dust from the last guests. I pray that she will do a better job.
In my rental agreement it states: "You should find the home in clean condition: However, if you find it not cleaned to your satisfaction please notify property manger and she will address the issue. No discount in rent will be given for unsatisfactory cleaning. We do expect immaculate cleaning from our housekeeper." I wished you would have called her to come back and clean the home.
It was a pleasure having you stay at my home and working with you!

A WONDERFUL summertime vacation!
Our two families, with 14 total, spent 7 nights here in June 2014. Our intent was to use the home as a resting place after exploring around Colorado. Yet we enjoyed it so much that we spent more time relaxing in the home than anticipated. The home is more beautiful and spacious than the online photos suggest. It is very tastefully decorated and had all of the amenities we desired. The porches (3) for summertime relaxing were frequently used and enjoyed by our group. The cabin sits overlooking the river which provided a wonderfully relaxing backdrop sound. The views from the cabin are spectacular - mountains and trees!
The cabin is accessible off of the highway on only a half mile of good gravel road, yet feels more remote as it is surrounded by trees and has the roaring river as a backdrop. And the convenience of Salida and Walmart is only 25 minutes away.
While in the area, we enjoyed rafting at Noah's Ark (and also their Challenge Course was a big hit!), exploring and chipmunks at St. Elmo's, K's Ice Cream in Buena Vista, nearby mountain trail hikes, fishing, and all of our group enjoyed shopping in downtown Salida. The Boathouse for dinner in Salida has great food and casual ambiance, We also took the lift up to the pass at the top of Monarch to stand on the Continental Divide.
We can't hardly wait for our next opportunity to visit this area, and to stay in this cabin!!

Beautiful, clean and spacious
I am so happy this is the house we picked to stay at for our winter vacation. It was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our little family. We all had our own room which was very important to my husband and I. The pillows and beds were super comfy which is key to a successful vacation. I LOVED the fact that they had EVERY little gadget that you would need to make your vacation perfect. The road leading up to the house was a perfect little hill to ride our sleds on which the kids loved and we loved since we didn't have to drive anywhere to take them to go sledding. It was super close to Monarch mountain which made it really nice in the mornings to not have to rush to get to the mountain to ski. We could take our time and sleep in. :) The living room was so spacious and the couches were very comfy. I hate to even admit this but the only 'downside' was the wifi. :( You basically had to sit right next to the modem to even get a signal and when you had a signal it would take forever to just check our email. I knew before even booking the trip that our cell service would not work but i was banking on the fact that we could still use the wifi to stay connected to the world ;-) We definitely can't wait to plan our trip to this house again for next year :)

We are so glad you enjoyed our home and want to return to our home! One of the down sides in the mountains are poor or no cell phone service and slower satellite wifi signals at 9,500 feet altitude in a forest setting. Hope you return soon!
About the host

I am a Louisiana native now retired. I have lived in my home in Kentwood, Louisiana for 44 years. I have rented cabins in Colorado since 1993. My belated husband Randy and I have built 5 cabins in Monarch since 1993. The "Krewe of Louisiana" built three cabins; James Iverson "Jim" Watson, Jerimiah Watson, Kevin Lee, Caleb Lee, and Kent Blades. I consider this one the very best cabin of all! Crazy about my family. Enjoying life!
Why they chose this property
We have built cabins in Colorado for the love of the mountains and the fun of skiing and hunting right out our backdoor. We made many happy memories with our children over the years in Monarch and now we want our daughter, Son-Law and Grandchildren to make many happy memories. Randy built this spacious home for them to enjoy what we have enjoyed in the Colorado Rocky Mountains since 1993. We dedicate this home to our grandchildren Blase, Bella, George Taylor and Lawson Cole. May they continue to make precious memories in the mountains.
What makes this property unique
It is beautiful, spacious, comfortable, majestic views, and the river provides serenity. A great escape for those seeking tranquility or adventures!
