Enjoy our newly remodeled and tastefully appointed 2 bedroom 2 bathroom waterfront home as a fun family adventure or a quiet getaway. Our home is located on the exclusive, private and peaceful Bayside, as opposed to the crowded, and noisy Oceanside of Mission Beach. From your cozy beach retreat, you will experience some of the finest panoramic views of famous Mission Bay. Absolutely perfect for children - You can step from your very spacious patio directly onto the fine beach sand of Mission Bay, and not have to worry about crossing a street. ‘Bayside Walk’ is right at your doorstep (One of the most scenic walking and biking trails in Southern California that curves gently around Mission Bay). If you are looking to enjoy big ocean waves and the hustle and bustle of Mission Beach, it is only a 5 minute stroll away.

Start your day relaxing inside or outside with a cup of coffee, and watch a beautiful Bay sunrise. During the day, take advantage of 19 miles of sandy beaches, 14 miles of bike paths, a network of channels, islands, coves and wildlife preserves, including so many recreational activities that you could easily spend all your time at the bay without having to think about driving your car! When the sun goes down, fire up the BBQ, and look out over the blissfully quiet beach, and the tranquil, calm water of the bay. Before you turn in, enjoy a grand view of the explosive and spectacular SeaWorld fireworks right from your own patio.

The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, and is fitted with fine linens. There is a flat screen TV. The bathroom is en-suite and has a single vanity and a large shower. You will enjoy stunning views of Mission Bay from your bed, or walk out of the bedroom sliding door onto your patio that spills out directly to the beach.

The second bedroom has a bunk bed with a full-size bed (2 people) on the bottom and a twin-size bed (1 person) on the top. Fine linens are provided for all beds. There is a flat screen TV. The bathroom is en-suite and has a single vanity and a large shower. There is a large walk-in closet that leads off the bedroom.

The living room has a full-sized sofa bed and accompanying fine linens. There is a 46-inch flat screen TV with digital cable, a DVD player and premium home theatre surround sound stereo. The stereo system also includes a 5-disc CD changer and an iPod docking cradle.

The kitchen is fully appointed with cooking, serving and dining ware. It has granite tops and new high-end appliances including a Dacor stovetop, convection oven, microwave oven, fridge/freezer and dishwasher.

The dining area has a table that will seat 6 or 8 people (using the extension leaf provided). A new wet bar with granite top is attached to the dining area.

There is a separate laundry room inside the house, that has a washer and dryer.

High-Speed wireless internet is provided throughout the house, and will also work on the patio and beach in front of the house.

There is an off street tandem parking space (2 spaces total). Note that the tandem bay was originally built at a time when vehicles were a little smaller, so if you have 2 full-sized SUV’s, they will not both fit into the bay. However 1 full-sized SUV and 1 small car will fit into the bay.

About Grant McKinstry

I am a partner at a global management consulting firm and actually live in San Diego, with my wife, and 2 young children.

The 'Beach House', as we like to call it, was purchased as a second home for our personal use. It is our home away from home and we have furnished and appointed it as a place that we are very comfortable using. We outfitted the house in such a way that we can get in the car and go without having to think about packing anything besides our clothes. We love the fact that the Beach House is only 20 minutes away from our primary home, and try to use it ourselves as often as possible. With the competing priorities associated with young children there are times when we cannot use it, and therefore look to rent it out. My wife is really the person who manages the property, and insists on doing all the cleaning herself, as she has not found a cleaning company who measures up to her high standards! We feel very fortunate to be able to have a second home in this wonderful place that has so much to offer, in a neighborhood of people who are always friendly, welcoming, and happy. I guess waking up every morning with a beach on your doorstep will do that to you!

Mission Bay is a premier location in San Diego, with 19 miles of sandy beaches, 14 miles of bike paths, a network of channels, islands, coves and wildlife preserves, and a huge number of recreational activities right on your doorstep.

The panoramic views of Mission Bay are spectacular. Whether you are watching the sunrise in the morning, the sail boats that glide back and forth in front of the house throughout the day, looking out over the blissfully quiet beach and mirror-like calm waters of the bay at sunset, or watching the explosive Seaworld fireworks at night.

The proximity to the beach was a major factor when considering our kids. They are able to walk right out of the patio gate and onto the beach without crossing a road. When they are playing on the beach we can actually keep an eye on them from the patio, or from inside the house. We are a family who love water sports and it is extremely convenient to be able to ‘park’ a Hobie Cat, ski boat or kayak on the beach right in front of your home.

We were looking for a home in a quiet and safe neighborhood, and Mission Bay is one of the only beach communities in Southern California that offers this. If we want to spend time on the more lively and noisy boardwalk and Mission Beach, it is only 2 small blocks away.

Parking at any beach city in Southern California can be problematic. As a result, we wanted the ability to be able to park our car at the Beach House, and not have to drive anywhere. Our location puts us within walking, biking or skateboarding distance of any number of restaurants, shops and recreational activities that we might need

Absolutely wonderful location, beautiful accommodation, and Grant and Karin were so nice to work with. Our son, his two boys and the two of us had a wonderful time celebrating Thanksgiving, our son's 50th birthday and enjoying San Diego (as always.....).

Our Yearly Summer Getaway

We have vacationed at Misson Beach for 12 years now and each year I kept searching for a house that fit my family best! The house that had everything we wanted and needed! Well, about 5 years ago I found that place. We have been coming back since. This rental is amazing it has everything you need for a home away from home. The patio is my most favorite! I can sit and watch my boys play on the bay. We also eat dinner there each night! The patio is so large my little one can even play right there in front of me. I highly recommend this rental!

An ideal getaway!

I have rented this beautiful vacation home many times and always plan to return as quickly as I can. We love the lovely large patio right on the boardwalk. It has beautiful flowers in the planters, we can watch sailing lessons right on the Bay, and relax. This home is a 5-minute walk to the lively beach, but we do appreciate the peace and quiet of being right on the Bay. Grant and Karin keep this beach home neat, well appointed, and very comfortable. Close to shops, great restaurants, Sea World, Belmont Park, and Crystal Pier. We also enjoy easy day trips to LaJolla, Laguna Beach, SoCal museums and even Tijuana. So much to do, we take an hour walk on the beach each morning, one of our favorite things to do.

Grant is great about returning calls or emails right away in case you have questions or any issues at all. He and Karin are attentive, and extremely easy to communicate with. Once you stay here, you will also want to return as soon as possible!

Best Condo on Baywalk! Great Owners !

This is the second winter we have rented from Grant and Karin. This last winter we stayed 3 months and last year two. We enjoy the condo, it is beautiful, clean, sleek and clutter free. There are two nice bedrooms. The master has sliding doors that face the bay and have mirror reflections so no one can see during the daytime. There are two almost identical bathrooms with great showers. There is a large walk-in closet off the 2nd bedroom with great storage. The master also has a full closet with shelves and basket storage also. There is a full utility room. The TV system is all set up for those of us who are technically challenged! The kitchen and wet bar are amply stocked with any dish, pan or glassware you could want. The gas cooktop is a gem. All appliance are in full working order.

The property location is perfect -right on the Baywalk and 2 blocks to the ocean. It is also convenient to downtown Mission Beach with great stores, restaurants, Crystal Pier and several grocery chains (Sprouts and Ralph's). It is convenient to downtown San Diego via 8E and 5S. Easy to access to the highways and all that San Diego has to offer.

BUT the biggest asset is that Grant and Karin are fantastic owners. The response time for questions from Grant is usually within 4hours. And always within a very short and reasonable time frame. Even if he is away on business he responds to our queries immediately sometimes when he on the other side of the world. We have never been kept waiting. Karin sometimes is at the other condo and is very supportive and makes sure that that all upkeep is performed. We couldn't ask for a more beautiful condo or better owners. Grant is very fare as well. All the details are clearly stated and he is honest and fare.

This is exactly what you hope for when you rent a house - great location, clean, updated décor, well equipped, great layout, and steps from the beach. I think it was actually nicer than the pictures displayed! Owners were professional and responsive. They had a very thorough info packet with helpful tips about the house as well as local attractions.

It was good but it lacked atention from owner wouldnt take calls and loud $ rude upstairs neighboors

It is a nicely furnished comfortable little beach house the upstairs neighboor are loud and rude and the owner only answers by email it was my first time experience in HomeAway overall ok but would not stay here again i left a safe deposit box for next usted as well as some beach toys parking is really difficult and uncomfortable for big suvs

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. I am sorry that your expectations were not met on your first VRBO experience. In 6 years we have received over 100 reviews, with every review receiving a 5-star rating. Furthermore, If you read the reviews, we have never had a complaint about neighbors, the parking or my communication style - on the contrary, there is a common thread that I am a very good and prompt communicator. In response to the 3 issues you raised: Communication: The VRBO system is a digital e-commerce system . Therefore it is completely normal for most communication between owners and guests to be handled electronically. As you live overseas, it is a further reason to communicate by email. I always responded promptly to the many emails that you sent me. During the reservation process, you called me once only on check-in day, asking where to park. Parking information (including a detailed map of the property showing exactly where to park) was provided in the 'Welcome Packet' I sent you 1 week prior to check-in. Also included was the door code you used to successfully enter the property so I know you received it. As you left no phone number to call you back at, I responded by email (within 11 minutes of your call) and provided the same information again. A call was not needed if you read the information I sent you originally. Neighbors: We have never once had a complaint about people staying in the condo above, or any of the neighbors for that matter. There were renters staying in the unit above you, and although not completely within my control, if you had contacted me with your concern I would have tried to resolve it. The permanent residents who share a living room wall with those renters said they were unaware of any excessive noise as you reported. Our unit is listed as a condo, and as such you live in very close proximity to your neighbors in a popular vacation spot that is already densely populated. If you were looking for complete privacy a free-standing house would have been a better option. Parking: This one has me scratching my head …. The parking assigned to you was a HUGE tandem bay, that regularly has 2 vehicles parked in it, and you had 1 vehicle. I have a Ford Excursion (largest SUV ever made), and I have no problem parking in that space on a regular basis. I understand this was your first time using VRBO, but based on your expectations, I think you might want to review whether this model is well-suited to your needs in the future
