Guestbook comments from the owner

Once again, I wanted you to know what an amazing week we had. When going through hundreds of houses on the internet one never knows what you'll actually find once you arrive, your house was everything I had on my check list, truly paradise in the mountains... We all did white water and biking and hiked down into many falls, truly a treat from the Florida flat lands and heat.

Take care,

K. T., Florida

We have just returned from three magical weeks in this gorgeous home with so many glorious memories of our time there. Although it is perfect for multi-generational family reunions with two bedrooms, two baths, a very large family room and a separate deck downstairs, it was a wonderful get away for the two of us. We loved the gourmet kitchen with every imaginable kitchen tool and high end appliances since one of our indulged passions while on vacation is cooking. We also love to fish, and Lake Osseroga is so much fun to paddle with the canoes. We even caught fish, but released them so you may catch them too.

Perfect location half way between Highlands and Cashiers, so we could enjoy what both have to offer. Lots of hiking, waterfalls, chamber music concerts, great library, even a barn dance at the Bascom!!

We will definitely return and would not consider looking for a better place to stay; I don't believe there is one!

Thank you so much for your gracious hospitality and for sharing your home with us.

Felt Like Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

This home is perfect for the discerning traveler. It said "high class" from the minute you arrived. New, clean, upscale, charming and just what you want in a mountain vacation home. The furnishings are impeccable and there are tv's and dvd's in virtually every room which comes in handy if you have children. Although the home it self is on a steep hill the design is such that my elderly Mother had no issue getting from the car to front door and back. In a secure gated community it offered a lot of privacy but with VERY kind neighbors not to far away. On your first visit try to arrive in daylight hours as it is easier to find once inside the development. After that it is a breeze and perfectly located between Cashiers and Highlands, ideal for those of us who love to dine, shop & play in both!

We have travelled frequently to Highlands for more than 30 years and have often stayed for several weeks at a time as we did on this trip. Without a doubt, this is the most outstanding home we have visited. It is beautifully and lovingly maintained, professionally designed and decorated, and has an intelligent floorplan offering an upstairs master and two downstairs bedroomns and a separate sitting room. The many personal touches make you feel special and more like welcomed family than rental guests. The kitchen has every imaginable tool you could ever need. The cookbooks are a dream for any home cook, and we used them several times. The decks are in the tree tops with magnificent specimen trees including hemlocks and large leaf magnolias. We were greeted in early July with rhododendron blooming over the entrance which was a magical experience. The canoes were so much fun, and we enjoyed many evenings watching the water at the boathouse.

The location is perfect and about half way between Highlands and Cashiers so we could easily get to Canyon Kitchen at Lonesome Valley for dinner with one of the best views in the world or hike to the newly opened state park at The Gorges with a wonderful visitors center with a picnic on a rock perched above Horsepasture River for another grand view. We also visited Southern Highlands Plateau which is a private garden on top of Toxaway that propogates and displays native plants in a glorious setting. Reservations can be obtained on the internet, but we went with a group of enthusiastic gardeners from a Zahner Lecture at the Highlands Nature Center that was accompanied by a botanist from UNC Charlotte. There are many lectures thoroughout the season, and they are highly recommended. The Performing Art's Center has plays all summer and we attended two during our three weeks at this wonderful Highlands home. The Highlands Chamber Music Festival is truly outstanding with many, many performances during the summer and we enjoyed several. We hiked at the Nature Center, Whiteside Mountain, Cliffside Lake, Chinquopin and Panthertown which was our favorite.

We will always stay in this home when we visit Highlands. There is no reason to look anyplace else. It is perfect in every way. If I could rate it more than a FIVE I would! Thank you so much, Bruce!

Our family had a wonderful stay in this beautiful Lake Osseroga home. All amenities were provided & the home's decor was mountain perfection! On two days, we used the canoes and boathouse--gorgeous! Lastly, the owner was an absolute pleasure! We will be back next year!

CNN writes 'Just north of the GA-NC border, the Blue Ridge Mountains cradle a small community with the charm of a village and the panache of a major city. In Highlands, NC, it's not what you do, but the simple pleasure of relaxation that makes a vacation fulfilling. Unsuspecting city folk find their cluttered thoughts routinely interrupted by birds chirping, or the trickle of a brook running down moss-laden rock. As in the 1800's, families with the time now relocate to Highlands in the summer and fall to escape the oppressive heat of the southern lowlands. At 4,118 feet, it's the highest incorporated town east of the Mississippi River.
