Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Our Hiwassee Riverfront log cabin, Bella Riva East, is close to everything, yet located on a country road with views of the Nantahala National Forest and the Smoky Mountains. This beautifully appointed, tastefully furnished, 3 bedroom, 2 bath log home is situated within feet of the Hiwassee River in the Smoky Mountains (approximately 2 hours from Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Asheville.)
Bella Riva East is an easy drive to town, one mile from the entrance to Fire’s Creek Recreational Area, within 15 minutes of Lake Chatuge and a short drive to the Ocoee and Nantahala Rivers. There are many nearby activities that make this cabin an ideal vacation spot for the adventurer seekers. Hike up a waterfall or on one of the many trails in Fire's Creek Recreational Area, kayak the Hiwassee, take on the challenge of white water rafting at the Ocoee and Nantahala Rivers, rent a pontoon boat or ski-doo at Lake Chatuge. You may also enjoy horseback riding, golf, white water rafting, hiking, and biking.
The secluded location makes it an ideal place for those who want to just kick back and relax. Read a good book; enjoy the calming sound of the river and a crackling fire. For those of you that enjoy shopping, there are many specialty stores in town, as well as antique shops nearby.
Our cabin has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings, rustic pine walls and floors, and a stone fireplace. Two quarter-round antique stained glass windows (circa 1880) accent the fireplace. Sliding glass doors facing the river ensure that your view is unobstructed. The fully-equipped kitchen has everything one might need for family dinners or entertaining guests. A large dining room table (seats 6) is provided, in addition to seating at the counter for four. So that you have all the comforts of home, we’ve provided satellite TV programming, a DVD/VCR, Internet accessibility, board games, puzzles, pool table, dart board and children’s activities.
The master bedroom downstairs has a King size, full-log bed, flat screen TV and has a bathroom with a large Jacuzzi tub. Upstairs, the second bedroom has a large King size bed and some of the best views of the river and the mountains. The third bedroom has built-in bunk beds – a hit with the kids, but sturdy enough to accommodate an adult. The second bathroom is conveniently located between the two upstairs bedrooms.
Just feet from the river, you can sit on the covered porch or relax on the hammock and let the river lull you to sleep. The covered porch has a latching gate to keep children and pets safely by your side. A large outdoor table with comfortable seating for 6 is perfect for dining with a view of the river or just relaxing. A professional charcoal grill is provided to grill your catch of the day! There is also plenty of fine or casual dining within minutes of the cabin.
The Hiwassee River is dam-controlled; it rises and falls without warning. When the river waters are low you may enjoy wading or swimming. When the river rises the waters move swiftly to allow for tubing and kayaking. Swimming is not suggested during this time! Fire’s Creek is nearby upstream emptying into the Hiwassee River – both teem with rainbow, brook and brown trout with some of the best fly-fishing in the mountains.
The large 1-acre lot has plenty of room to run and play. Incredible views of the changing leaves in fall, White-tail deer, Canadian Geese, and Herons are some of the wildlife you can experience without leaving the back porch. At night, enjoy the large outdoor fire pit, roast marshmallows, make s’mores or just sit and enjoy the stars with the echoing sounds of the river!

About Linda Abati
We grew up in Pittsburgh, and currently live in San Antonio. Dave is a retired AF pilot and avid fly fisherman and Linda is a school librarian, looking forward to retirement and getting to spend more time in N.C. We have two beautiful labs (black and yellow) who also love the cabin and the river!
Linda Abati purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why Linda Abati chose Sweetwater
We love this property because it is so very peaceful and relaxing. The beauty of the mountains and the river are just breathtaking. We spent one week at my uncle's cabin (2 miles down the river from ours) and we fell in love with the area, the people, and knew we wanted to be a part of this special community.
What makes this Cabin unique
While there were many properties for sale at the time we bought ours, we knew our cabin was the perfect one for us because of it's location on the river and I love the stained glass windows. They are from an old church circa 1800 and just add that uniqueness the other cabins lacked.

Family enjoyed the stay and surroundings. Very quiet and peaceful.
Great location, perfect vacation all in itself...
Owner is very pleasant to deal with. The cabin is clean and comfortable...immediately feels like home. We were looking for a place where we could fish with the grandchildren, have a campfire, and still enjoy the comforts of a mountain home without driving to-and-fro. This cabin was a perfect fit. Arrived home last night and awoke this morning missing the place, expecting to hear the river.
Thank you for your kind review. We have tried to make our cabin feel like home to all who visit, so I am happy to hear that is exactly how you felt. The campfire by the river is especially wonderful in crisp fall weather. We, too, miss it when we leave. Thanks again and I hope you will be one of our many return visitors.
Beautiful! Loved sitting on the porch listening to the water.
Thank you. I love listening to the water, too. There is just something so soothing and peaceful about that river. I hope you will come back again.
Loved this private cabin, 50 feet from the river!
We were greeted by beautiful geese upon our arrival, which thrilled our grandson! The cabin was extremely clean and neat. We loved grilling out on the covered deck overlooking the river.
Ana, next door, is a great neighbor welcoming all guests! Very peaceful & relaxing trip. Pictures are just like it looks!
Perfect accommodations....everything the pictures and description was right on
Beautiful cabin along a nice river in the back yard....cabin is beautiful, great kitchen with everything, beds very comfortable and a back porch overlooking the property is quiet and amazing views. A short walk away is perfect swimming hole or go right in the back yard with your tube. Although I did not fish, we saw trout swimming in the river and neighbor had luck. Would definitely rent this beautiful cabin in the future
Great house in an even better location
We had a blast playing in the river and just watching the river. We hardly even left the house.
Fly fishing, white water rafting, great hiking and boating on Lake Chatugue
