Aloha and welcome to Hotel Pa'amalu the only one room hotel in Kealakekua Hawaii. Hotel Pa'amalu is a blend of Polynesia, Indonesia and amnesia. Come swim in our warm tropical waters or explore the enchanting tropical rain forests atop Kilauea, possibly the most active volcano on the plant. Plan your day while lounging on the lanai, comforted by the warm gentle trade wind breezes.
You will begin your day 5 minutes from historical Kealakekua Bay, on the leeward slopes of Mauna Loa on the island of Hawaii. The weather is warm, sunny and mild all year long, yes all year long.
Hotel Pa'amalu is not really a hotel, I just thought that was a catchy name. My dad, friends and I built this little house a few years back. I would, how ever, describe it as a small story book cottage, welcoming you to write your own chapter. We are settled just up slope from an old Hawaiian fishing village known as Keei. We are surrounded by many different varieties of mangos bananas and other horticultural surprises.
Hotel Pa'amalu is a fun, retreat, romantic get away, or a brief interlude as you travel through out our beautiful islands.
Thanks so much for visiting, hope to hear from you soon.
Oh, if you come during mango season you may never leave the lanai!

The perfect little cottage for your stay!
My husband and I always stayed in timeshare condos, or Hotels and wanted a change in pace. I saw this awesome cottage on-line and booked it immediately. The owner, Charles Cope was very warm and gave us an equally warm welcome. He has amazing decorative items all around that just fit the area and an amazing bird bath that attracts dozens of birds of many species. The time we were there at the cottage was spent bird watching, as well as frogs and adorable gecos. We would recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to get away from the crowds of Hotel stays, as it is in a quite secluded area in Captain Cook.
Awesome place. Owner very nice. Feels like being a local staying right in middle of coffee farmland. Great location with lots of coffee stands nearby. Able to get to Two step beach in about 10 minutes for snorkeling. Definitely recommend.
Loved the cozy cottage
We had a wonderful stay at Close But Far... The space was cleaning and had unique and tasteful decor. The screened in porch was our favorite area, to sit and watch birds come from a lovely fountain. We enjoyed having a view of the ocean while being in a nice secluded location. The drive from the cottage to restaurants and other places is a bit of a hike...but worth it. Charles and his son were helpful hosts.
Quiet paradise, where we felt like family and lived like locals
We really enjoyed our stay at Close but Far...the house was clean and well cared for. Charles was great, didn't bother but was always available when needed and really made it feel like a home away from home! Minutes from some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii and 2 minutes from Kealakekua Bay where we had the opportunity to swim with wild dolphins. The landscape was breathtaking with his vanilla and orchid growing as well as the many fruit and flower trees on the grounds! We loved having breakfast on the screened in lanai while listening to the birds. A little piece of paradise in Captain Cook!!!
Close But Far is heaven on earth.
This little cottage on a small orchid and vanilla farm is a gem. In decades of extensive travel, it stands out as a highlight; I wish we were still there. Quiet, private, comfortable, casual but well appointed with lovely Indonesian inspired furnishings and supplied with beach equipment... In addition, we were surrounded by songbirds and fruit trees, and visited by a friendly, resident dog. We had morning coffee on the front porch with a view to the sunrise and evening drinks in the spacious lanai with a view to the bay. It is a short walk down the hill to any of three community beaches. "Close But Far" describes a unique place of natural beauty that renews one's spirit -- and marriage! It is secluded yet near many points of interest and good restaurants, also nicely equipped for cooking "in". Oh my goodness, we treasure our week in this sweet spot and hope one day to return for a third honeymoon...
Aloha, Thank you so much, good people are just good people. Your orchids are doing well....
Beautiful location. Close to the beaches, restaurants and shops. Gracious host.
Quiet, lots birds, owners friendly dog and cat
