About The Owner

I love the beach and the ocean, so was excited to purchase a property so close to my favorite beach, one where I played as a young child. I enjoy traveling and meeting people from other places so having a vacation rental property enhances this experience. I am a published author and freelance writer. I own a kayak which I use at the nearby beach, but only in fair weather.

I was born and raised in Victoria, so know the city and surrounding areas well and can help guide my visitors to places outside the guidebooks, if that is part of your vacation plan.

The Owner purchased this studio in 2006

What makes this studio unique

The property is very quiet with few neighbors, yet only a short distance by car or bus from the heart of downtown Victoria and all that beautiful city has to offer. The nearby beach is lovely in all seasons, and it is possible to easily walk along the beach to nearby shops in the Cadboro Bay Village.

Woke up to twin fawns napping in the flowerbed... Short walk down the street to the beach!

We had such a nice stay! The little cottage is close and handy to the primary residence, but you would have thought you had the whole property to yourself. A great spot to come back to, very quiet, after a busy day of being a tourist. We had all the privacy we were hoping for, yet Kathleen was handy to give us advice and directions. We enjoyed the 10-15 minute drive on Beach drive to downtown. So much to see. Bed was very comfortable! Nice to have the cooktop and BBQ also. Thanks so much. I've already had a friend ask about it and planning on using you for her visit to Victoria.

Wonderfully quiet cottage close to the sea

  • 5 of 5

What a WONDERFUL week long vacation in Caddy's Carriage house. We stayed here with our 7 year old son, and he loved the loft and the "cozy cabin" as he put it. It is within walking distance to a local grocery and drug store, a coffee shop, a few restaurants, trinket/clothing shops, and a board rental shop. We were able to rent a few boards and do some paddle boarding in Cadboro Bay. What a delightful experience! The cottage was cute and quaint and we felt right at home. The amenities including laundry on site, toaster oven, and a small stove were also very helpful. There is also a BBQ grill out back that we used to grill some salmon we caught on one of our days out fishing. What a great experience to be able to go "home" after a busy day sight seeing and relax either in the cottage or a be a few minutes away from the sandy beaches of Cadboro Bay. Thanks to Kathleen and John for a little piece of heaven and such great hospitality.

great home away from home!

We had a great 2 week stay at Caddy's Carriage House just recently. We had a very relaxing time. The location is great as it is walking distance to a local beach and small retail centre with all sorts of handy shops and restaurants. The carriage house is lovely. It has everything you would need. We enjoyed our sleeps in the cozy loft and overall apartment is well appointed. Definitely a wonderful place to stay! Thanks!

We LOVED this comfortable rental. I took my two teenagers on vacation and this was the perfect location for our stay in Victoria. It was walking distance to the small retail center where we bought morning coffee. The center also has a locally owned grocery market and a couple of dining options. The neighborhood was delightfully quiet and everyone was friendly. The bay was a two minute walk. Fun to walk along the sand and end up at the coffee shop. The accommodations were perfect as well and very COMFORTABLE! Beds were great and the place was so cozy. Perfect for cooking an easy meal, too! We loved coming back and relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. So much better than a hotel. Can't imagine staying anywhere else and the hosts were very helpful and gracious. We will definitely be back!

" Dream Home away from Home "

  • 5 of 5

I'm so thankful that I was able to find this dream of mine for our trip to Victoria. My boyfriend and I came out to BC for the weekend, so we needed something quick and affordable. I can honestly say without a doubt that we got to stay in our dream home at our dream location. A beach 2 minute walk from the door, a local WONDERFUL grocer and PUB 10-15 minute walk up the beach, AMAZING views and central to almost everything. It's about 30 minutes from the airport, but we took the longer way through the Mount Douglas parkway. This location was a surprise for my boyfriend and it was absolutely breath taking. We are simple people, who don't need a lot and we had EVERYTHING we needed to enjoy the weekend. There is a TV with channels and DVD's but we didn't even use it. There is so much to do! Downtown Victoria isn't far, the beach is right there, golf up the road, and hiking all over. The views are spectacular! If it wasn't a mountain, ocean, deer or bikers you had the smell of the ocean and cooling winds to entertain you. We also had about 5 family members over for breakfast, we had everything we needed to cook the food, and a place for everyone to sit. For a small little cottage it packs enourmous charm and whizmical features. If you are wanting to do A LOT of sightseeing I do recommend a rental car, if you want to find a place to just sit in quiet and have all the necessities right by you can do without one ( just keep in mind distance from airport ). The owners were fantastic, and care more about providing a wonderful, easygoing visit to their guests then they care about overcharging. They take PRIDE in what they do, and they do it very well. I am and will forever be grateful for this trip, and to meet this wonderful couple who are grateful for all the have and the ppl they get to meet. I smile as I write this because I know I will be back, and I know EXACTLY where I will be staying! Wake up to the ocean, and go to bed with the ocean -- who could ask for more?

A Little Slice of Heaven in Beautiful Victoria

  • 5 of 5

The listing here did not do justice to the gem that is Caddy's Carriage House!

We arrived in Victoria travel-worn and needing rest, and were delighted to find our own little secluded retreat in Cadboro Bay (one of the cutest areas in Victoria). Our wonderful host, Kathleen, met us on arrival and was quick to answer our questions. She also pointed out the quickest way to the beach - literally a two minute walk - and left us to discover the area.

The Carriage House is well-stocked for those looking to eat-in or eat-out! The kitchen is equipped with an induction cooker, toaster oven, microwave, bar fridge and a dishwasher. Outside in our private courtyard were two barbecues (the courtyard also has a bubbling fountain which our son loved!). You also find yourself within a short walk of Cadboro Bay proper, with a great, largely-organic grocer (Pepper's), a lovely coffee shop (Olive Olio's) and a nice pub (Smuggler's), along with other amenities.

Regarding the rest of the Carriage House, the loft bedroom has two beds (a double and a twin), but also left enough room for the play yard we brought for our son (a toddler). The main floor has a futon, and is stocked for entertainment - books, board games and lots of movies. There is also laundry available in the rental - such a help!

In terms of the location, it couldn't be more well-situated. A short walk to the beach and great park, which were both well used by our son (a toddler), a quick drive to campus, and close to downtown.

I really cannot recommend Caddy's Carriage House more highly. We will definitely stay there on subsequent trips and I've already recommended it to family and friends. You will not be disappointed!
