Location, Style and Value - The north end is arguably the best Location on the ranch for visitors! It's closest to the town of Gualala with it's shops, markets and eating/drinking establishments. Originally built for an empty nest couple, The Bluffs at Sea Ranch is perhaps the perfect place for a loving couple to reignite their passion. The professionally designed interior is fresh, light-filled and private featuring our signature look with antiques and contemporary furnishings in a modern playful mix. You will appreciate the high quality bedding, pillows and comforters, an updated kitchen with commercial stainless steel appliances, Master Chef cookware, Wusthof knives and all the goodies. Separate laundry, viewing deck, covered patio, private fenced yard, and inviting Jacuzzi spa with views of the Pacific round out the ample amenities.

The two-level master suite encompasses the majority of the second floor. Lounge with your favorite book on the 9-foot window seat and enjoy seasonal whitewater ocean views and glorious sunsets. Then step down to the spacious bath area for a sumptuous soak with the sounds of the crashing waves to help sooth away your worries. The massive California king size bed invites restful slumber with a super high-end Aireloom 'Super Feather Bed' mattress. The second bedroom is located on the ground floor and has access to its own private garden and patio. It's cozy and comfortable and great for extra guests. In addition, on the second floor, is a lofted niche with a full size bed that looks out upon the Sea Ranch Golf Links and acres of natural land on one side and the ocean on the other. The perfect place to escape from someone who snores!

With panoramic ocean views from nearly every window, and acres of wilderness to the east the property is adjacent to Gualala Point Regional Park and the town of Gualala the convenience and walk-ability are unsurpassed. The bluff trail along the ocean side of the property serves as your gateway to the great blue Pacific.

Designed and sited to take advantage passive heating and cooling from Mother Nature, you'll enjoy soothing benefits of radiant floor heating with no drying forced air to stuff up your sinuses. The Bluffs at Sea Ranch is a self catering unit. Expendables are not included. Gas for the BBQ is up to our renters. We supply the BBQ and tanks you take a tank into town for a refill as needed. If you're a good person, you'll leave enough for the next visitor.

About John Matthes

A transplant to Pasadena from San Diego, John relocated in 1989 to attend Art Center College of Design where he was awarded a Master's of Fine Art degree.

John is an expert in marketing historic and architectural properties and holds his fiduciary responsibility to his clients in the utmost regard. With real world experience as the founder and principal of Carciofi and Jinglehyme, he successfully united residential real estate development and interior design; bringing revitalization to local neighborhoods and blighted historic properties through thoughtful renovation and redevelopment. John is the 2014 Winner of the Historic Preservation award for the city of Pasadena. He also owns and manages short term vacation rentals in Pasadena, San Diego, Santa Rosa, Culver City and the Sea Ranch.

John's prior tenure in the marketing and communications wing of the global institutional investing giant The Capital Group Companies, allowed him to develop broad knowledge of printed and digital media. With this knowledge, he has developed sophisticated marketing tools and programs for selling homes in all economic climates.

A long term resident of the Arroyo, John currently resides in Linda Vista and has had stake in properties located in Prospect Park, San Rafael, South Orange Grove, South Lake, Eagle Rock, The Sea Ranch and San Diego's East Village, Culver City and Santa Rosa. He is an active member Pasadena Heritage and The Legacy Circle, a group of Art Center alumni dedicated to raising funds for student scholarships.

Ocean views from every room!

We loved our stay at the Bluffs! The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed (except a microwave, but that was no big deal). We ate in all but one meal and it was terrific. Every room has a view of the ocean except for the back bathroom! We used the awesome hot tub twice a day and the closed in garden area was just beautiful. While we find renting a new home we have never been in is always exciting and fun, this is definitely a place we would dismiss that notion for and stay again. We were right on the bluff with a short walk to the beach. It was just a terrific stay! Thanks again to John for opening up his home to us!

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you had a good time! I am however perplexed that you missed the microwave - it's right there in the kitchen - It 's a vintage 1990 collectors item - and it looks the the original iMac in all of its plasticy perfection. You know, that thing with a clear blue acrylic front - Maybe you thought it was a time machine? Come back next year and bring your micro-pop!

wed stay here again!!

The only reason 4 stars and not 5 is because there are no screens on many of the windows and it's difficult to let in the wonderful sea/fresh air without letting in the flies! Otherwise the place is great!! We loved it!

Masculine and eclectic decor was evident through the home. The views were lovely from every window.

Our arrival was only slightly marred by having to unload the dishwasher, the dryer, and clean out the coffee pot. Other than those few chores the worldly decor and gorgeous views delighted. We enjoyed cooking in the modern kitchen and loved walking right out our door to the bluff trail.

We didn't mind cleaning the kitchen to standards requested but felt that taking all the garbage from three days home with us was a little excessive. That should be mentioned before renting.

We are happy to recommend this VRBO for its many pleasures.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay. I'll let the housekeeper know about the dishes and coffee maker. As always, the housekeeper will take your bagged trash - just don't leave it outside - it will get strewn across the meadow by raccoons and foxes (not fun to pick up)

Good House & Location, But The Experience Could Have Been Better

Good location, close to Gualala, the bluff trail and the golf course. Nice home with fast wi-fi and a well equipped kitchen, but other amenities left a lot to be desired. When we arrived there were dishes in the dishwasher and damp towels in the dryer. The dishwasher didn't drain properly, so we had to wash the dishes by hand for the entire week. Although we were warned on the website that this is a "self-catering unit", the result was that our stay was not as enjoyable as it could have been. Bringing all of the basics, like toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc. was inconvenient. We brought food to barbecue the first night, but the propane tank was empty. So we had to wait until the next day to get to a store that was open and had propane. We were advised that there were two passes for the pool, trails, etc and that one pass was good for a group of people. Well, there was only one pass and the pool attendant told us that it is only good for one person. To get additional passes you have to drive about 10 miles to the Sea Ranch offices and hope that there is someone there and then pay for the pass. Not good! There is no garbage collection for the house and all nearby public garage cans have signs that prohibit leaving household trash. So you are supposed to bring all of your garbage home with you. Pretty tacky and a real nuisance if you flew in. It seems to us that it would not be a big deal for the Owner to make this house more user friendly, like many other houses that we have rented at Sea Ranch.

Owner's Response: So sorry that your stay was not perfect. We have so many great reviews and return visitors I was surprised you were unhappy. Then I talked to my housekeeper. Check in time is 4:00. You came early and interrupted her duties. Things were not in place because of your early arrival. Also, she takes care of any trash that is left behind. If it is put outside, raccoons and foxes will spread it across the meadow. Sorry that you thought you had to take it with you. If I knew you having a problem with the dishwasher, I would have compensated you for the trouble. All My Best

A bit disappointed!

Positives:

Location was great

Second floor very nice

Kitchen well equipped

Negatives:

No land line - cell reception fluctuates

No garbage pick-up. We complained because we were staying 2 weeks. Housekeeper picked up garbage after 5 days.

No access to garage where we could have stored the garbage for the remaining 9 days.

Garbage disposer broken the entire time. No sink strainer to catch food.

Suggestion! Update some of your pictures and info. There is no living room, just an extension of the kitchen.

Owner's Response: The Bluffs is a very popular vacation rental and a great value for its prized location. As for this renter, Nothing I could have said or done would have satisfied them - They were just not happy campers I'm afraid. Garbage disposal is working fine now - The switch just needed to be reset. The open floor plan intentionally combines living and kitchen areas. We haven't had a landline in any of our properties for over 10 years. A review of the listing specs on VRBO would have confirmed this.
