Perfect place to stay in Oakland

John and Jill's home was the perfect place for us to stay with our 2 Welsh Terriers. The space was fantastic with a lovely yard and thoughtful amenities throughout the house. The hosts were super friendly and helpful, we can't wait to come back.

Beautiful Retreat!

My friends and I loved our time at the Kinney Castle. It's a peaceful and relaxing place with a hiking trail directly across the street and stunning views. Communication was great. We would most certainly stay here again!

Loved this place!

This was the perfect combination for rest (really comfy bed), remote working (great wifi and desk), and the convenience to restaurants and everything around the Bay. Loved the huge screen entertainment room (and complimentary movies and snacks). The private deck was great and I'll come back with friends next time so we can BBQ and enjoy the sunset.

We booked the retreat in the trees for a girl weekend and LOVED our stay. Our hosts were thoughtful and accessible and the home was beautiful, comfortable, and thoughtfully appointed. Beautiful Escape in the Woods

This is a beautiful, well-kept place with lots of amenities. The hosts were very welcoming and communicative. It has beautiful views of the redwoods outside, but is still very close to the freeway. One thing to note for those with kids is there is no bathtub. A wonderful stay overall!

Perfect retreat site

I gathered several colleagues here for a weekend retreat. It was the perfect spot for some creative thinking and bonding and we took full advantage of the nearby trails. John is super accommodating and attentive to specific needs. Overall a very successful experience.

Lovely home and host

Property was beautiful and cozy! The host John was very kind and helpful! Met us the night we arrived and gave a quick tour and literally thought of everything, from toiletries, grill, coffee and just about everything you need. They also have two dogs that share the yard and were the sweetest! If we make the trip back we will definitely try and stay again.

Luxurious home on nature preserve

I feel so lucky to have found this property! Excellent Bay Area value. A huge nature preserve with great hiking and mountain biking is literally across the street. The place was clean, well-decorated, and comfortable. The hosts were generous and communicative, offering restaurant and activity recommendations. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit the east bay.

Weekend Retreat

John and Jill were great hosts. The house is spacious and you can tell a great amount of detail was put into this home away from home extending from the interior space to the beautiful backyard with a large deck for relaxing and taking in the scenic views. There is also a nice trail across from the home to get a quick workout or a nice sunset stroll. Look forward to coming back.

Wonderful vacation property! After some busy sight-seeing, it was a relaxing "home base" to come back to at the end of the day. The deck was lovely and the perfect spot to unwind with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The neighborhood is quiet and tucked away, but still close to everything you need to experience the Bay Area. Sunset trail is just across the street where you can catch a gorgeous view of the city and walk through redwood groves. The hosts were friendly, very easy to communicate with and provided everything we needed. We would definitely recommend!

Spectacular hillside home away from home.

My wife and I spent two weeks at this lovely location in the Piedmont Pines section of Oakland while she recovered from surgery. Hosts were more than accomodating and made us feel right at home from day one. The views of the mountains are spectacular from nearly every window in the place, and the trail right across the street leads to a breathtaking vista of the Bay. Modernly appointed and with every amenity you could ever need, it's a great place to stay if you're ever in the California Bay Area.

A haven in the Oakland hills

This is a great spot for R&R with a hiking trail head right next door to the property and the trails lead to some spectacular views of the bay. The property itself was immaculate- the owner seemed to have thought of everything we would ever need and more! The living space was airy and ever so comfortable with a lovely patio overlooking a beautifully terraced backyard. Will definitely return!

What a delight

The hosts went above and beyond! My hubby and I made our 1st ever trip to Cali from Michigan with our kids. And, wow, this house and the hosts exceeded every expectation. They had coloring supplies for the kids, snacks galore and so much kindness! You should absolutely stay here! You will love it!

Incredibly comfortable, professional, and thoughtful.

The king bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve slept on. It was great to wake up to bird sounds. The new BBQ made me want to buy the same model for home. i love a good shower and this was like standing under a waterfall. The steam room made it feel like I was at a very high-end resort. We love having a quiet neighborhood with direct access to one of the best trailheads in the East Bay. We're close to shops in Montclair, Piedmont, and Berkeley, yet our house feels like we are in the woods.

What makes this property unique

This is a big home with great decks surrounded by trees. Our dog loves the freedom from a fenced yard and she protects us from the wild turkeys.
