Lovely Home-Views of Lake Superior-3 miles to Ski Hill-on Bike Path-Adults Only

Due to this Home being on a 40 foot cliff this is an adults only, no pet property.

This home is a rare find! From the moment you enter, your senses are overwhelmed by the natural beauty all around you. This retreat is situated on a 40 foot cliff view of Lake Superior and right on the Gitchi-Gami bike trail. Local folks call it 'the glass house' due to the large windows offering 180 degree views of Lake Superior.

Only 3 miles to Lutsen Mountains Ski Hill. Close enough to skiing to enjoy all the amenities yet far enough to be away from all the crowds for some quiet time. The exterior walls are 65% windows with views of the lake and woods. A 10 by 15 foot skylight washes the main room with light. The total effect is that you are inside but feel at one with nature.

In the Great Room is a full kitchen, two dining areas, a gas fireplace, and a wonderful couch area under the skylight. The windows, with an amazing view of the water, are framed with window seating. Under the window seats are many books sure to interest every reader, plus stereo and many dvds, puzzles & games for your whole group to play. The bedrooms, which are separated by the Great Room, have queen beds and private full bathrooms. The master bath has a whirlpool, over-sized, deep-soaking bathtub that overlooks the lake. The Great Room can accommodate 2 guests on a gel foam mattress sofa bed.

We have recently added portable air conditioning in the great room for the rare moments the North Shore is affected by global warming.

There are two patio areas, one with a fire pit. There is also a gas grill.

We woke up to the most beautiful sunrise over Lake Superior. House was exactly as described. Our only regret was that our stay got cut short due to a big storm that prompted us to leave a day early.

The Horizon House is LOVELY. It’s a serene setting; the home is clean and well maintained. The views are simply gorgeous. Lake Superior, wowzer, it is beautiful. My husband and I opted not to ski Lutsen, my kids and their friends skied and snowboarded. The place is conveniently located, roughly, 2 miles from the mountain. Everything about this stay was easy. We can’t wait to return. We LOVED our time there.

This home is amazing. The 180 degree views of Lake Superior has a million dollar view- beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We have visited our 3rd time now and love how relaxing the home is for reading, drawing, writing, game playing and puzzle making for our family with grandparents. We also love close proximity to great waterfall hikes, bike rides, and a short drive to Grand Marais.

Wonderful place! Clean, gorgeous view, and great location. I would hesitate staying there if it was a hot week in the summer. Because of the architecture, the living room gets really hot! We were lucky with mild weather and it still got up to 90 degrees!

Luckily most of the time the weather is in the 60s and low 70's but the huge dome skylight can warm the room if the temperature gets into the 80's. We have two stand alone ACs and opening the windows and doors lets in the lake breeze which can whoosh out the warm air nicely. Three big fans work well if there is no lake breeze. Pulling the window shades while you are out hiking in the day really helps. Hopefully this will help when you come back! Thanks for leaving the house in such great condition. Kittie

Ski Weekend

Short but Sweet

This was just a two night stay, but very hot weather, forest fire smoke, rain and fog did their best to spoil the marvelous view and challenge the home’s cooling system.

This property is out dated , the pictures of view need updated . The trees are grow up on bluff blocking view of lake from fire pit area. House is musty with no ac or ceiling fans , a dehumidifier would be nice .

Shannon, The state of MN has planned and subsidized the planting of our cliff as well as many others along the north shore to prevent cliff erosion. I am sorry you can't see the lake from the firepit but the lake180 degree view is spectacular from the house! There are two stand alone ACs in the great room that I am sure you must have seen as well as three large fans.. It rained the whole week before your arrival and the last guest left the windows open all night in the rain. I wonder if that is the musty smell. I live there 4 months out of the year and have never had a musty smell and neither of our guests have ever noted it. Thanks for the heads up as I will have our crew really check and clean the carpets that were in front of the open window. Kittie

The North Shore is one of the near perfect places on this earth. This particular property showcases the area beautifully. The layout and decor are comforting and fun, and it was the perfect place for a couples getaway.
