Cozy cottage with a great view
Lovely, cozy cottage right on the water. We had a great time using the house as a landing base to explore midcoast Maine. The owner was great about welcoming us, ensuring we had everything we needed, and sharing use of his floating dock (a great place to watch the boats and have a drink!). WiFi and jacuzzi tub were both excellent amenities. The kitchen is small but workable, and the location is very close (and very walkable) to other restaurants in town. We'd love to stay here again!

Location, location, location - this is the ideal cottage
My husband and I spent a week at this cottage. The location in the harbor is ideal for relaxing and a short walk into the center of Boothbay Harbor for shopping and dinning. The owner is extremely attentive to any need and question we had. The cottage has a spectacular view of the harbor, and whether a foggy, cloudy or a sunny day the view is hypnotizing. The upstairs deck and the jet tub are each, an extra bonus. Our only regret is that we didn't stay two weeks.

Amazing, did not want to leave
The cottage was amazing. The view from the sofa and from the top deck was beautiful. Easy walk into the town, great restaurants and shops. The host was awesome. Very friendly and attentive. He made sure our visit was one to remember. Would definitely recommend this place.

A Perfect Slice of Heaven
Idyllic. All week long, that was the word my husband and I used for our stay in the Boathouse Cottage. Waking up each morning and climbing to the crow’s nest to drink coffee and watch the ships go out. Taking a short 5 minute walk to town to eat a variety of delicious food. Wandering around town to check out the shops or take a boat out on an adventure. Falling asleep at night with the sound of the waves lightly lapping beneath the cottage. And the night sky!!!! It was amazing. Apart from a few trips to the grocery store, the only time we got in the car the entire week was for a 45 minute drive to the breathtaking Pemaquid Lighthouse. There was plenty to do in Boothbay Harbor (and even choosing not to do things felt amazing). Make sure you make time for the Living History tour to Burnt Island (Mondays and Thursdays during the summer). The blueberry mojitoand the seafood risotto at the Boathouse Bistro are amazing. As is the paella at The Thistle Inn. Our favorite breakfast find was the Chen Scramble at Waves (eggs, roasted garlic, shrimp, scallions, and Swiss cheese). We probably would’ve gained 50 lbs were it not for all the exploring we did of nearby parks. Shane, the proprietor, has everything covered in this adorably remodeled cottage. His recommendations were spot on for food and activities. He was there when we needed him and was an absolute pleasure to work with. From day one, we were letting our friends and family back home know about this special place. We cannot wait to go back.

Sweet little studio with awesome view!
Perfect space for a romantic getaway! Close to town, yet just removed from the crowds. Nice indoor hot tub, grill, and perfect deck for meals or a glass of wine. Shane is a fun host. Highly recommend this property!

Wonderful place
This was a great place to stay for a week in Maine. The house, though small, is incredibly convenient to downtown, and its waterfront location can't be beat. It's definitely on the beaten path—if you want privacy, there are better locations—but I would highly recommend it for its convenience.

Nice cottage in great location.
Interesting little cottage comfortable for two. I enjoyed the "crows nest" upper deck, perfect for dinner with the nice harbor view. At high tide the water is literally under the cottage, fun for duck feeding. Walk to town in minutes yet out of the hubbub, the location couldn't be better. Had a very interesting tour of the Boothbay Boat Builders next door, now in the process of restoring the "Ernestina Morrissey" and of course the Botanical Garden is a must see. Shane is a delightful and thoughtful host, we will definately be returning.

It doesn't get much better than this!
This was our first stay at the Boathouse cottage and will definitely not be our last! We were looking for a private place to stay that would be within walking distance to town, and we found it here. The walk to town is very short, but you'd never know it, given the privacy of the Boathouse. After exploring the entire town, we truly feel that the view from the cottage is the best in town. The cottage itself is the perfect size for a couple, and the view from the picture window in the bedroom is incredible. The kitchen is modestly equipped, but it worked perfectly for us, as we didn't want to do a whole lot of cooking. We didn't see the need, when there were so many restaurants within walking distance! Shane generously told us to let us know if there was anything we needed and didn't have; there wasn't. We did make use of the grill on the deck, which was great. The cottage is right next to the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard. There was some activity there during the week, but the noise was minimal and never bothered us. The best thing about the cottage is the rooftop deck, as well as the use of the large oceanfront lawn and dock. We really enjoyed our nightly trips to the rooftop to look at the stars (including a couple of shooting stars). We enjoyed wine and snacks on the lawn one night with Shane, who is an extremely personable host. We truly believe there's no better place to stay in Boothbay Harbor (if you need more space, check out Shane's other properties on the same lot: Landings East and Sur La Mer). We can't recommend the Boathouse cottage enough!

Wonderful Stay
Our stay in Boothbay Harbor was another cherished adventure! The Boathouse cottage is cozy, comfortable and a place we will be sure to return to on another visit. The cottage extends out from the waters-edge and we heard the lapping water as it lulled us to sleep each night. Shane, the owner and host is a gem! He made sure we had everything we needed and assisted us when requested. The cottage is dog-friendly and we were able to walk the grounds of the estate (3 cottages) for ease of potty-time for the pooch. As others have mentioned the rooftop deck was an envious perch to watch the boat traffic. The kitchenette was just the right size and we used the outdoor grill provided too. We would recommend the Boathouse for couples (and dog) and when we bring more of our family with us next time, we plan to stay at one of Shane's other cottages.

Our new " Home Away from Home "
Shane, The Boathouse was perfect for us... an easy walk to everything but still private. We were able to go on a whale watch, clambake on Cabbage Island and lots of seafood eating all without driving . Boothbay Harbor is beautiful and packed with little shops to pop in and out of. We're already planning on our return trip next summer- we started while on the way home!! Mary & Dwayne

Lovely
This was our 10th visit to Boothbay, first at the cottage. We brought our dog for the first time and it was probably our best visit. Great view from the cottage, next to a working boatyard, no problem with noise, they are very civilized and we never heard them, just enjoyed watching some of the work. I'm an early riser and my early morning walks with Alf (our dog) to the lobster dock at the other side of the harbor were very pleasant. Stating close to downtown is a big plus. I had several nice talks with Shane. Good landlord, very helpful, very personable. Good location for day trips, which we did a lot of. This area is very dog friendly and was good for us. Our dog is an important part of our lives. We're looking forward to next year.

Another great stay!
We just returned from another great stay at the Boathouse Cottage. The view was just as fabulous as we remembered and we enjoyed hanging out on the rooftop deck. We had a few days of rain and fog and we're thankful for the huge picture window where we could enjoy the scenery while staying cozy inside. The cottage was very clean and we liked having the kitchenette so we could eat in for some of our meals. Shane was great- we locked ourselves out and he came right over to let us back in! The location can't be beat and the view from the dock on the property is just amazing. We hope to be back!

Serenity by the sea.
This is a perfect place to unwind, relax, etc. As mentioned in other reviews, the location to town is one of the main features that attracted us. Close enough to walk everywhere, yet far away from the hustle of the shops and restaurants. I loved the huge window facing the ocean inlet, hearing the foghorn blow, feeling the breeze through the windows in the evening, and the view could not have been any better. I took advantage of the roof deck, reading in the afternoon sunshine, and just watching and listening to the birds and boats. This is the most relaxing spot we have been to recently. I would definitely return...the restaurants are wonderful, the surrounding areas are a lovely drive. We spent a morning at the Botanical Gardens, on the recommendation of a friend, and enjoyed it immensely. A little hard adjusting to city life again, but there is always next summer to look forward to!

Perfect location...Perfect host....Can't wait to return!
We've only been home a week and we're already craving the wonderful Maine seafood and scenery! The boathouse is absolutely perfect for two! Cozy, comfortable and quiet. It is just far enough from the busy streets of Boothbay Harbor, but close enough to walk to anything you could need! This is also the perfect location along the Maine coast to make easy day trips to lots of yummy seafood stops, wineries and the beautiful Maine scenery. Our favorite thing to do is to visit the small fishing villages and eat fresh lobster right off the dock. No fancy restaurants...just good fresh catch on a picnic table and BYOB! Check out the favorites on Trip Adviser or Yelp and explore! Our goal was to eat lobster every day for 10 days. Goal met! Thanks Shane for being our perfect host and hope this finds Gene managing his treatments well and moving toward recovery!!! We will definitely be back and be Boathouse regulars!

Beautiful cottage and an excellent location!
My husband and I rented this cottage in June 2015, and we also brought along our dog. It was our first time visiting Boothbay Harbor, and I want to first start out by saying that it is an amazing little town! It is super dog friendly, and every one was so kind and helpful! It's definitely a great vacation spot! We were told by the locals that we came early enough to beat the summer tourist rush, but at a time where we were still able to enjoy their annual Windjammer Festival. The cottage was beautiful, and it is in a very convenient location and easy to find. It is truly on the water, and the views can't be beat. It was absolutely stunning to wake up to views of the harbor out of the large picture window every morning (something I miss already!)! We took advantage of the rooftop deck a couple of times, and the views are even more stunning from there. We were grateful for the jetted tub, as well as the kitchenette with the full-size refrigerator. Furthermore, we really enjoyed the fact that we had access to their larger, neighboring property's dock, and we spent a couple afternoons just lounging on it. One reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were some cobwebs (though I think it's because we were one of the first people staying in it for the season), and I am terrified of spiders. Luckily, my husband was there to rescue me :) Also, the small kitchen table and 2 iron (?) chairs were a little difficult to use. Since the chairs are so heavy and fit so snug between the legs of the table, there were a few times when we went to stand up from sitting and the chairs fell backward from under us. I would maybe recommend some lighter wooden chairs. We didn't get the chance to meet Shane or Gene while we were there because we were constantly out and about, but they were very accommodating through email and over the phone. They made sure to send us tons of information about Boothbay Harbor that came in handy, and I believe they were right up at their neighboring property if we really needed them. Overall, it was a great vacation, and we would definitely stay there again if we find ourselves back in Boothbay Harbor! Thank you, Shane and Gene!

Great Location
We were at the boat house for the fall colors. The studio was perfect for just the two of us. The view of the harbor was stunning. The walk to town was short and enjoyable. Boothbay is a wonderful town with lovely shops and restaurants. We sailed on the Eastwind on a beautiful day. What a pleasurable vacation spot. Gene was a great host.

Wow....we loved it.
My husband and I just returned from a weekend in the adorable boat house. The views from the large window and rooftop deck were spectacular. We have rented many properties through VRBO up and down the east coast. This is now one of our favorites. Great location, comfy cottage, relaxed atmosphere, what more can I say....We will be back.

Breathtaking views!
We had a fabulous week at the boathouse cottage. The photos do not do this place justice. The view of the harbor from the large picture window and rooftop deck are breathtaking. The bathroom was spacious and clean and the jetted tub was great! The walk to all the shops and restaurants was just a few minutes. We also enjoyed Duntin's Dog House for quick lunches right across the street. We love that we were able to bring our dog. We will definitely be back!

Relaxing atmosphere, breathtaking view!
The view from the upper deck is breathtaking, beautiful, peaceful, the view of the two lighthouses was awesome. The cottage is cozy, just right for two. The bed was comfortable, the jetted tub relaxing. The walk to town was fun, very enjoyable week. The only change that I would add to the cottage is to add a light either above the dining area or over the stove. It would make dining on lobstah so much more enjoyable to shed just a little more light. The property owners were attentive and assisted me in getting on line, very helpful on the phone and via internet. Loved our Stay!

The Perfect Getaway!
This was absolutely the perfect place for us! First of all, the pictures are accurate. It is a lovely large charming space with a beautiful view. It was perfectly located for us. Just around the corner from the touristy area and within easy walking distance to just about everything. We could easily come home from daytrips in the car, have a lovely dinner locally...with lots of cocktails...and walk home. It was beautiful and quiet at night. The boathouse is located next door to a ship yard, which I admit was a concern when we first arrived. To my pleasant surprise, we were not disturbed by any noise from next door in the mornings. The price was very reasonable for the space and location. It was lovely to have access to the Bed and Breakfast property and dock. We spent several evenings just sitting on the dock, cocktail in hand, watching the boats. It was like we had the place to ourselves. It was simply beautiful! The boyfriend even fished off the dock and caught a couple of mackeral. He was like he was a kid again. Good for the soul! A couple of plusses: -Nice big comfy bed. -The large jacuzzi bathtub! What a perfect way to relax at the end of a long day! Dutton's Dog House literally just across the street. We got fried scallops for lunch one day and ate them on our rooftop deck...so good! Wonderful landlords Gene and Shane. Very friendly and easy to do business with. Some advice: If you are an oyster fan be sure to drive out to the Glidden Point oyster farm. I became a master shucker right in our own Boathouse kitchen. They are more than half the price of the local restaurants and so delicious! They have ruined me for oysters at home! Bring a wine opener with you. If there was one in the room, I couldn't find it. Try the blueberry beer. I normally don't like fruity beer...but it was quite refreshing on a hot muggy day. Put the Yelp app on your smart phone. We found lots of great food and activities using it. Don't expect swanky digs. This place is charming, not flashy. There are some things that are weathered (such as the deck furniture) but you are in Maine for God's sake. When the tide is out...it is mucky. We fondly called it our own little MuckMuck bay. It is all part of the Maine experience that I found to be our perfect vacation. When it was time to come home we were truly sad. If it weren't for the pups we left at home we could have easily extended our trip. Thank you Gene and Shane!

Excellent place
This cottage is a great place to stay while enjoying Boothbay. It is clean, comfortable, and has everything needed for a great stay. The views from the large picture window and the roof top deck are amazing. You can see boats of all shapes and sizes as well as the lighthouse. The pictures posted are exactly what the cottage looks like. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. It is within walking distance of great shops, restaurants, and the docks in the harbor. I will be looking forward to returning again.

A great little place!
My husband and I had a great time at the Boathouse Cottage! It is comfortable and cozy and perfect for two! The view is spectacular, especially at high tide! And it is so convenient - walking distance to everything! Plus there was a little roadside hotdog stand a few steps away in case you needed a quick bite after a long day of exploration - one of those funky little places where the locals eat. As the description states, the tide comes directly under the cottage at high tide - pretty cool, but sometimes drift wood may be in the water and bang a bit at night! Just part of the rustic charm! I just read a previous review about trash and seaweed being in the inlet. Well, you are at the ocean, hence the seaweed, and as for the trash in the water, well that is a reflection on some people in the harbor being careless with their trash and has nothing to do with the owners or the cottage itself. No one likes to see trash in the water, but unfortunately there is no possible way you could get out there to get it out without practically killing yourself on slippery rocks! So, ignore the floating water bottle or two and look beyond to the sailboats and yachts passing by! Also, make sure you take advantage of the use of the dock at the inn - what a great place to relax and watch the busy harbor! It also does have a full size oven which is great! The only thing we thought it was missing was a DVD player for those rainy days when you may want to rent a DVD. Other than that tiney detail...awesome! We would return again in a heartbeat! Thanks guys!

Boothbay Harbor Cottage Stay
Overall it was a good experience. The cottage is quaint and adequate. Could be fabulous if the owners would spruce it up, but then guess they'd need to charge more;. Location is excellent and is an easy walk into town for shopping and activities. The view from the expansive window isn't much since it's on an inlet and you see mostly trash and seaweed. In the distance you can see the harbor. ATT wifi as is most wifi is "iffy" needing to go to higher ground to get a signal. Boothbay Harbor a charming place.

Cottage on the Ocean
The cottage was as advertised, a small one room with cooking and dining area, large comfortable king sized bed, loveseat and an attached bath complete with a wonderful jetted tub. It has a funky well-worn style with antiques and seaside memorabilia that was like visiting your best friend's cottage. High tide brought the ocean right under the building and the view of the sailboats in the harbor was amazing! It was an easy stroll to the shops and restaurants.
