Welcome to Nestledown –a peaceful retreat surrounded by native rhododendron nestled amongst the mountains of Highlands, NC. From the moment you enter the driveway you will be drawn to the quaint two bedroom, two bath cottage with a welcoming front porch.
The open floor plan to the great room encourages memorable times with family, friends or that special someone. Skylights allow the natural warmth of the North Carolina sunlight to fill the room. Comfortable furniture and a spacious eating area gives guests a home-away-from-home feeling. Timber accents add rustic charm to this mountain home. A stone fireplace provides additional warmth for those chilly evenings. Each bedroom features Queen beds with ensuite bathrooms and is accompanied by a flat screen TV and cable connections providing local, sports, music and movie channels.
The crisp clean mountain air can be enjoyed from the cozy front porch or stretch out on the expansive two-level deck overlooking the private wooded backyard. If you like a little background music to your natural setting, you can enjoy your CDs piped through a pair of outdoor speakers. An open front and side lawn are perfect for outdoor activities.
If you wish to pull yourself away from the tranquility of the cottage, you only have a few minutes drive to downtown Highlands to enjoy world-class dining and shopping. Alternatively, Cashiers affords similar high level entertainment and is nearly as close.

Clean, comfortable and well appointed. Our hosts were easy to communicate with and made sure we had all the amenities we needed to enjoy our stay in Highlands. Very much appreciated and plan to stay there again on our next visit to the mountains.
Location is idea for exploring Highlands, Owners are very friendly and extend a warm welcome during your stay! Home is cozy and spacious. Thank you Brian!
As we were there for three days of wedding festivities, this home gave us the rest and relaxation at the end of each day! The atmosphere and decor was out of this world! Would definitely stay there again to be able to explore the surroundings!
This isn’t the first time we’ve rented this house and we keep coming back because it is one level with no scary stairs and it’s the perfect size for us. We have three small children - 2, 4, and 6 - and we love that the driveway is easy to access and the house is one story.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Nestledown. We’ve been coming to the area for the last four years and this is our favorite. It’s quiet and well furnished. It’s also close to Cashiers, Highlands and Glenville Lake. The owners are very helpful and accommodating.
We have rented all over Highlands while our new home was under construction. This was one of our favorite locations. The communication with the host was superb and we found the home to be exactly as described and extremely clean. We would highly recommend it.
Excellent communication from host before trip & during our stay. Absolutely loved the property and the cottage. Pictures don’t do it justice. I felt like Snow White in her enchanted cottage in the forest. Clean, quiet, secluded, easy access to Highlands & Cashiers, equipped with everything we needed for our stay in each room and space. I would recommend this property and stay there again!
We enjoyed our stay at Brian's property! Everything was very well appointed and the communication with the host was excellent. Property was in excellent shape, very clean and we will be returning for sure!
This house has a great layout with two ends suite bedrooms and a large great room. There is a separate laundry room that closes off too! Great for short stays as well as long ones. You will enjoy the location and the quietude of this house. Enjoyed it thoroughly!
We had a great time! The property was as advertised. It is about 5 minutes from downtown Highlands and 15 minutes from "central" Cashiers. It was very convenient to the various hiking trails in the area. The Owner/Property Manager sent detailed directions a few days before we arrived (also called me) which were very helpful. There were plenty of dishes, silverware, glasses, etc and the wifi reception was excellent. We do recommend this property and would stay there again.
We had a delightful four night stay which met and exceeded our expectations. Brian was a wonderful host. The check-in process was seamless; instructions prior to arrival were thorough and helpful. He ensured all our needs were met, checked in and followed up throughout. The house was clean and comfortable, well-equipped and had everything we needed. Lovely location in a natural setting. We enjoyed meeting some friendly neighbors who showed us where to look for blue fireflies.
Clean, organized, great location. Easy driveway, nice walk to a really cool store. This is our third or fourth time renting this property and we love it. It’s the perfect size for families. We have three kids - 1, 3, and 5. They shared the second bedroom and bath and it was a great size. It’s one story so there are no fancy (scary) stairs for little kids. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals and the fireplace is a fun bonus for us Floridians. Our favorite house to rent in North Carolina!
The name Nestledown seems to refer to bird nests, for you’ll find bird and nest-themed curios everywhere you look. This is a relatively new house with rustic decor. You’ll appreciate the roominess, cleanliness, and attention to detail throughout. It’s better than the photos online show. This is not a “host-free” property. The host will want to speak to you by phone before you arrive and will text you frequently during your stay.

We do provide directions and offer our guests the opportunity to ask questions over the phone prior to their arrival. We usually send a text after arrival to be sure they arrived safely and then just prior to departure to see if there is anything else we can help with. Unless a guest has other requests, we make sure we allow our guests to enjoy their time uninterrupted.
Nestledown was in a fantastic location; convenient to both Highlands and Cashiers. The cabin was perfect for two couples ….a great table for games and eating plus the kitchen had all the supplies we needed. There was a lovely back porch, private and great for evening cocktails.
My reason for giving the cabin 4 stars for cleanliness, was I think they forgot to clean under the beds. Not something I normally look at, but when I dropped a pill, it had to be retrieved from the dust bunnies.

This is Brian and I believe that is on me. I usually don't do the cleaning and thought that I had cleaned under the bed. However, you know how bunnies are - it only takes two to multiply!
We enjoyed our stay at Nestledown. Brian provided all the information we needed and texted to be sure we had everything we needed upon arrival. Parking in the driveway is easy and the neighborhood is lovely and safe. The location between Highlands and Cashiers was perfect, but we did spend more time in Highlands which was a very easy drive. The house is clean, nice kitchen that we cooked several meals in and had everything we needed. Morning coffee and evening dinners on the back deck are nice. The trees offer 100% privacy from neighbors. Very quiet. Perfect for a family of four or two couples.
My family usually stays in the Highlands/Cashiers area for Thanksgiving week but now with a toddler... space is needed so we rent our own place. We chose Nestledown because we wanted two bedrooms on the same floor (learned a lesson from last year) and two separate bathrooms (so we didn’t wake up our daughter - again, live and learn).
Nestledown is PERFECT. The house was set up exactly how we needed it. Two bedrooms, each with an attached bathroom. The kitchen, dining room, and living room were all open so as long as we kept the other doors closed our daughter could roam freely.
The house was clean, and though it was decorated very nicely it wasn’t TOO decorated with lots of clutter. We felt comfortable letting our almost-two-year-old walk around without being scared she’d get into something.
The fireplace was super easy to use, the tv had just enough channels, the kitchen had everything we needed, and for whatever reason our daughter LOVED the bench at the dining room table rather than the chairs. So thank you for that. :)
The bathroom that we used was awesome - I don’t know if they had extra heating put in but this Florida girl appreciated not freezing to death after a shower!!
We would’ve LOVED to use the hot tub, but I’m pregnant and it wasn’t part of our vacation this time. It was really well set up though - you take a few steps down from the back porch and it’s on a nice private level. I’m sad we didn’t get to use it.
The driveway was very easy to park in and get out of. I’ve parked in some Ike driveways in NC. This driveway was fairly straight and level, lots of room to unpack and pack, and get in and out of. That’s a plus when you come in a big truck (because you never know what you’ll find in NC).
They’re super close to some awesome shopping, too, so if that’s your thing you are in luck! You’ve got Cashiers to one side and Highlands to another. You just can’t beat it.
Oh, and as far as directions - you can use GPS and you’ll get there fine but the owners will give you slightly different directions. USE. THE. OWNER’S. DIRECTIONS. It’s a little easier coming in their way - I felt like Austin Powers turning around after I missed the driveway the first time coming in. Don’t do that.
Overall we LOVED this house. We are hoping to book it next year! It was perfect for a small family. Owners were super nice and the house was clean and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
A great 4 day stay in this lovely rental. Spacious, comfy, and well equipped. Communication was thorough and easy from beginning to end. Location to hiking and the shopping and restaurants of Highlands was perfect!
