Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

The "Amanecer" Cottage, (meaning dawn or daybreak in Spanish) is located on the western shore of Little Glen Lake with the Sleeping Bear Dunes directly to its west, has 2 bedrooms and 1 bath with an open kitchen/dining and living room area. The cottage has been completely re-modeled over the past few years, with new furniture, paint, blinds and TVs in 2016. The living room has a fold-out sofa to accommodate additional guests and offers wonderful views through its floor to ceiling windows. The cottage also has a natural stone fireplace, perfect for those cooler evenings. There is a large deck off the front of the cottage, outfitted with a table and chairs and a gas grill, and a large grassy area great for games or just relaxing in the sun.

The 100 feet of sandy frontage only gradually gets deep so it’s great for the kids. The cottage has a dock and a canoe is provided for exploring the lake. There is also a fire pit at the water’s edge.

The cottage is in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore approximately 1 mile south of the Dune Climb and only 4.5 miles outside of Glen Arbor. The Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, a paved, multi-use trail spanning nearly 20 miles, can be accessed directly across the street, providing bike access to Glen Arbor or Empire. The cottage’s location on the western shore of Little Glen offers magnificent sunrises over Alligator Hill and the “Narrows” and is the perfect spot for relaxation in this quiet corner of the lake.

The cottage recently changed hands, passing from the former Turak family who owned and loved it for over 20 years, to the new owners who will continue to offer the cottage for a select number of weeks for other families to enjoy.

The cottage sleeps 4-6.

A little piece of joy

  • 5 of 5

This is a sweet cabin in a perfect location. The cabin was immaculate, had a great layout, and included everything we needed. Lovely outdoor fire pit overlooking the lake. Perfect for quiet, restful nights. The cabin is extremely well situated; it's near a ton of hikes, a bike path, close to Empire and Glen Arbor, and the dunes. We also enjoyed all the historic architecture in the area and all the local food!

We went in early June, as the lilacs were blooming and the air was infused with their scent—so lovely!

Exceptionally charming cottage on gorgeous Glen Lake with Sleeping Bear Dunes in your backyard!

  • 5 of 5

I haven't had the time to go up north in many years but an opportunity presented itself recently and I jumped on it and was able to stay at this cozy, comfortable, and incredibly clean cottage this past weekend. In spite of the wintery spring weekend, I enjoyed glorious views of the lake (only a few feet away from the front of the cottage) and "the alligator," and the hikes in the very nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes as well as some hearty, tasty burgers in the quaint towns of Glen Arbor and Empire. The new homeowners have created a very comfortable & peaceful home, one in which you truly feel the joy of being "Up North." I will definitely book this cottage again!

We've stayed 2 years running and are sad we can't go back this year (2010-2011)

  • 5 of 5

We have had a wonderful 2 summer stays at this superbly located cottage. It has the best views - to be enjoyed in the early morning when the mist is rising, at sunset and all day long when the lake is clear blue. Our daughter would wake up and wander into the lake and play. We canoed, had bbqs and toasted marshmellows on the firepit at night. Travelling into Glen Arbour, Empire, climbing the dunes and beaching on Lake MIchigan all so close and convenient. It can be improved slightly on amenities in terms of cookware, sharp knives, big bowls for serving dishes and I agree with the comment on lighting both in living room and the bedrooms - but these are easy to fix. In fact after our first stay we complained aobut the bedsheets as they were a bit worse for the wear and the next year it was all new. I wish I was going back now.....but have other plans.

September 2011 stay

  • 2 of 5

First stay. View is exceptional and makes the whole cottage. Our expectation was cleanliness, and it was clean. Towels in the bathroom were thick and nice. The bedding did not have an odor. Even before we opened the door you could smell the mustiness, it was overpowering; but we just kept the doors open while we were "in", which let in many little bugs as the screens had some holes. The kitchen light fixtures were broken and had 40-watt bulbs, which were insufficient. There were no lights (sufficient to read by) near the sofa or chairs in the living area. You needed light to read because there was no TV, which the website (at the time) indicated they did have, and was a significant disappointment; we had to purchase a radio to keep up with current events. The carpeting was very soiled. The fireplace was full of cobwebs (obviously not used in some time) and the agent told us hesitantly it was OK to use, but his hesitation made us uncomfortable and so we did not try it. We did not expect "decor" and there was none. We would not stay here again.

Owner's Response: We're very sorry that certain elements of the cottage weren't up to your standards. We take great pride it making this cottage as clean and comfortable as it can be, and we ask that our guests bring to our attention anything that limits their enjoyment of the property. We wish we could have had the opportunity to make up for any shortcomings. For summer 2012, we’ll have a stereo with iPod hook-up and reliable cable TV service will be installed. We’ve also looked at the questions raised about lighting and will try to make it more accommodating for reading. The fireplace doesn’t get much use during the summer, but we’ll make sure it’s ready to go for the cooler nights of late summer and early fall. What we promise won’t change is the cottage’s great location near the Sleeping Bear Dunes and beautiful frontage on Little Glen Lake. That will always stay the same. Thank you.

Great Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful lake... the bluest of blues and not too cold. We had a fabulous vacation at the Turak cottage on Glen Lake. My kids spent hours in the lake trying to catch minnows, swimming and playing catch. Memories for a lifetime. :)

Charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

We (husband, wife, 16 yo son) stayed in the Turak cottage the last week of June 2011 for our son's birthday getaway. The cottage is in a beautiful location within biking distance of the Dunes and Lake Michigan beaches. It is not necessary to go to Lake Michigan, however, because the cottage is situated right on Glen Lake with a shallow sandy bottom for yards out into the lake. We anchored our boat and walked to it every day without getting wet above our knees! The cottage is smaller, but perfect for our needs. The owner was especially accommodating and all the amenities needed to create a "home-away-from-home" experience were there. The lake was calm, so kayaking and canoeing was fun as well.
