About Terry and Mary
Terry was born to the ranch and this life. He and I run this Ranch as a couple, and make a good team with our foundation bitch Lakeland Terrier, Eskwyre's Lancashire Rose, our 2 cattle dogs: Rudiger and Giesela, who are pepper and salt Natural Giant schnauzer imports, and Borisk our russian blue lakeland import and their rainbow litter, as we kept Panther, the black female... with proper form and coat and drive...OH, and her black and tan sister Taz, ... and the rest of the critters, without them we would be pretty boring. Our goats keep us busy, as well as our elk and gee, our custom hay business and these cabins, and life. Whew. Glad when winter comes.
Terry and Mary purchased this Cabin in 1898
Why Terry and Mary chose New Castle
our cabin is historical and special. A glimpse of real ranch life is fascinating to others, we have found. Please relax and unwind up here, we welcome you. we have put in hughes net, so those of you who need to work, can..... sorry..
What makes this Cabin unique
We are so close to the hot springs, or our local's hot pots, as we call them, and really love the privacy and the solitude that we can offer to the world. we are minutes away from world class rock climbing as well, and have had climbers as far away as germany stay here for weeks. Please let us show you the elk pen cabin as well as this one, and NOW we are going underground! whooo a dull moment here! Also just found another school house, the mead school house... will be moving her up here as well!!

Schoolhouse on the Ranch
Really Great from start to finish!!!Mary and Terry made us welcome and gave us our space!
This unique property fit us really well. Away from the busyness, yet easy access to all the Glenwood Springs area has to offer!!
We are definitely coming back!
Thanks Terry and Mary!!!!
Private, Quiet and Clean
Mary was excellent and called ahead of time to help with directions. I knew she was there if we had questions, yet total privacy. Nice property, not too far from basic provisions in New Castle and restaurants, etc. In Glenwood Springs.
Lovely Setting, Wonderful Hosts
We loved staying at the Porter Ranch. It was secluded but not too far from town. Mary and Terry were so friendly and accommodating, including making space for our long trailer, offering to move any of their vehicles as needed. Mary even took me to meet her two horses
The house (an old schoolhouse) was lovely and cool inside--daytime temps were in the 90s. The house and floors were such that we felt comfortable having our dogs with us--some VRBO rentals say dogs are welcome but freak out about fur and paw prints. So not the case at the Porter Ranch!
The deck was wonderful and we really appreciated that the yard was fenced for our dogs. Again, this allowed us to really relax.
The elk antler railing on the stairs to the second floor was really cool--so creative!
A few notes/suggestions:
The functioning of the shower was tricky to start; Terry kindly came down the first night to help us figure it out. Even once it was operational, the water pressure was super low.
The king bed was super comfortable. Due to the daytime heat, the upstairs bedroom door was very warm at nightfall. Opening the windows cooled it down after a while It might be a good idea to have the air conditioner upstairs rather than on the main floor. Also, the bedroom is under the eaves so tall folks take care not to bump your head! These are very minor suggestions in the scheme of things.
Thanks Mary and Terry for your hospitality!
Wonderful home and hosts
We loved our stay at the Porter Ranch - it is serene, beautiful and secluded. Amazing for some much needed down-time. Our dog had a blast too running through all the snow. Our hosts Mary and Terry were extremely gracious and helpful when we needed some assistance. They went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. Would highly recommend this home !
Whitewater Rafting and Horseback Riding for the ultimate day in the Mountains, we call it the paddle and saddle program, call us to see the discounts if you do both !!!
ALSO, we enjoy snow shoeing in the winter, with plenty of hills to climb or sled down off of. We are the only place on the earth where you stay right next to our elk herd. Listen to the whistles and bugles in the fall, and watch our speckled babies in the spring. Our birds and wildlife are protected here on the Ranch, and we have many exotic species that stop over here for safety and solitude. Do it yourself, ...nothing to chirp or whistle artificially. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Unwind and enjoy our cabins. ..another one being built on top of our world. complete with yoga glassed in studio. so cool.
