The beach is accessible from the front yard and through a short woods path. The beach after a walk through the woods has large stones to sunbath on, and picnic on and an island that appears at low tide. There is some beach sand that occurs on our beach and a nice soft sand public beach at low tide within walking distance. The front beach is ideal to launch kayaks from and to beach comb. There are three bedrooms. The front master bedroom with queen bed overlooks the water. The other queen bedroom overlooks the yard with a side window facing the water. There is a smaller bedroom with a twin bed in between. The bathroom upstairs is split into two, inner bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, outer with sink, mirror, and linen/ medicine cabinets. The front room downstairs overlooking the water has dining area/ combination living room, with the deck accessible from sliding glass door on front and door on side. About Reine Tracy

This has been our family residence since 1943.

Why Reine Tracy chose Tremont

This was my parents' property. If it had not been for this property I may never have settled in the beautiful state of Maine. Even during the hottest of summer weather, it is usually very pleasant on the water here.

What makes this House unique

I have summered here all my life. My family came here every August from Long Island, New York. I remember the excitement arriving every summer, swimming at Long Pond, eating lobster, going to Jordan Pond, and hiking throughout Acadia's trails with my family and other relatives. Nice place to relax, unwind, smell the salt air, and pines. We arrived and immediately ran down to the beach to explore.

This is a working lobster waterfront, sightings include seals, eagles, one frequently seen) blue herons, osprey, ducks, deer, etc. lots of other bird life. There's always something interesting to view from our point and the deck. Great place to sea kayak. Swans island ferry goes out multiple times daily from across Bass Harbor. Some boat excursions go out multiple times daily from our harbor. Great seafood restaurant and bar, near end of road (Thurston's) can walk to, also Seafood Ketch for bit more formal setting, with short drive to Bass Harbor, multiple restaurants in Southwest Harbor, all types in Bar Harbor. Area is known for lobster, crabmeat, and scallops. The deck with sliding glass doors-for morning coffee to start day and lunch and dinner with gentle sun, warms midday and cools when tide comes in. Nice modern barbecue for dinners. Very relaxing, private, and cozy place

It was a wonderful relaxing vacation. The location was perfect, was only 35 minutes from Bar Harbor village. The back deck had a surreal feeling, listening to the boats go by while watching the bay. This is truly an oceanfront property footsteps to the rocky beach. My two kids loved beachcombing when the tide was down - especially at nighttime when it's dark. We try to make it out to the island that pops up at low tide it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. 3 minute walk to the famous Thurstons Restaurant- visitors that we're staying in the village of Bar Harbor were coming to Thurston's, stating it was one of the best restaurants in the area. We found a local lobster Pound operation selling lobster for $5/lb, big Clams $4/lb. needless to say we were in heaven. And the host of the cottage Raine, was wonderful and kind to work with. Would definitely return to the same place.

                                                              Owner's Response:

Colleen, Glad you and your children enjoyed your stay! We as children enjoyed walking on the island on our beach at low tide but it is hard as it only remains that low for a short period. I have tried other local restaurants and we agree that Thurston's has the largest freshest lobster rolls and fresh cooked lobster! we are so grateful to have this restaurant next door at the end of our street. Hope you can make a return visit in the future.

Excellent base for any trip to Mount Desert Island

We fell in love with this property! They call this the quiet side of the island—a fitting nickname. The only sounds were fauna rustling in the flora, and the occasional lobster boat heading out into the bay to catch our lunch. The house is comfortable and well-appointed, and though it's very private and feels secluded, it's quite close to many sites worth seeing (and lobster rolls worth tasting!). Reine was a warm and informative host, and we hope to stay in her home on our next trip to Maine. Highly recommended.

                                                              Owner's Response:

So glad you and your mother enjoyed your stay. We also love going to Thurston's to eat lobster, lobster rolls and enjoy the ability to sit inside or outside the new roomy bar that was added more recently. Hope you will return again in the future! Sincerely, Reine Tracy

                                                              Wonderful Stay!

                                                              Kelly K.

We had a great vacation in Acadia last week and enjoyed this beautiful home for 6 days. The location is ideal - located on the "quiet side" of Acadia near Southwest Harbor. Right across the street from Thurston's. The best part of the house - the view! It's stunning! Reine was a great host, very responsive. Although she had some hesitations about us bringing our 3-year old, the house was perfect for a toddler. The furnishings of the house were slightly outdated but we didn't mind because the view was the main attraction for us. Although Reine did an excellent job providing toiletries, plenty of fresh bottled water, etc. the well water situation was a small draw-back in the end. Reine did warn us but after a week the smell of the iron in the water (from showering) started bothering my Mother-in-Law and I had to risk doing laundry because we ran out of clothes and the water did ruin several items (Reine did warn of this so this was definitely no fault of hers). We would love to come back but will just be better prepared next time, bringing more clothes since we typically rely on laundry when renting homes.

                                                              Owner's Response:

                                                              Dear Kelly,

I'm glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. Sorry that you experienced some difficulty with washing clothes. Although there is a large water filtration system with an additional filter for the water due to iron in the water, occasionally there can be difficulty with laundry, only experienced when you use hot water as some iron may get into the hot water heater, with the current updated technology despite our updated system that is checked, maintained and monitored by myself weekly and my plumbers on a regular basis every rental season. I have not experienced any difficulties with doing laundry on the cold water cycle, so I am sorry that this transpired as our system was recently upgraded with a new more powerful pre-filter system. I am constantly updating furnishings (such as towels, linens, blankets, quilts etc., and furniture as needed) so if there are particular recommendations for improvement, I would welcome your feedback to make further adjustments as needed. Hope you will consider a return future visit to our cottage in Bernard. Sincerely, Reine Tracy

                                                              Wonderful Place.

                                                              Joe G.-

The pictures do not do this place justice. My family of five were there for about a week and all had a great time. The views, privacy and quietness were some of the best parts of the home. Not to mention the games that were available and fire pit down by the sure. Reine had the place stocked with whatever you needed and answered questions very quickly. Highly recommend it!!!!

                                                              Owner's Response:

Joe, So glad you and your family enjoyed your stay! Yes it is a very private and quiet spot at the end of our road and right on the point with all the sounds of nature. Glad you found use of the games as my family has over the years enjoyed playing cards and other activities to fill our evenings or when it is raining outside. It is nice to enjoy a fire outside at the pit when it is a clam summer night! I'm glad that you texted me the variety of questions that i was able to quickly respond to and that the information was helpful for activities in the area that are recomended . Hope you and your family will consider a return visit in the future. Reine Tracy

Really enjoyed our stay. House was as advertised... right on the water with cottage charm. Very clean and spacious enough for our family of five. My wife enjoyed coffee on the deck overlooking the harbor in the mornings. The kids loved exploring the rocky coast for sea glass, shells and little sea creatures in the evenings.

The rocky shore is a wonderland for kids to explore and see crabs and other sea life in tide pools. Comfortable home has everything you need and instills that quintessential feeling of a Maine cabin. Our family loved it and would return in a heartbeat. Walk to Thurston's Lobster Pound for the best lobster roll on MDI.
