About this property
Very Private Beachfront Home on Point - Bernard
Rock Holme - This is a private oceanfront house set on a point at the tip of the town of Bernard with views of Bass Harbor and outer islands. It has a large painted deck with chaise chairs, anti-gravity chairs, dining furniture, and large gas barbecue grill. The private beach is accessible from the front yard and through a short woods path over a quaint bridge and short walk trough our woods path. The beach through the woods has large stones to sunbath on, and picnic on and there is an island that appears on our beach at low tide. It's a great place to explore and for evening cocktails as the sun sets. There is some beach sand that occurs on our beach at low tide and a nice soft public sand beach to the right of the property around the corner at low tide within walking distance. The ocean sand area is fun to explore to find hermit crabs. Our front beach is ideal to launch kayaks and to beach comb.
The house has three bedrooms. The front master bedroom with queen bed overlooks the water. The color theme is a turquoise/ sea green for curtains and bedding. Pictures feature flowers, coastal art, and Asian art. The ocean view is perfect from the bed. The other queen bedroom overlooks the yard with a side window facing the water. If you leave that window open at night you will hear the ocean which is very soothing. The color theme in this room is blue and it has Asian art. There is a smaller bedroom with a twin bed in between perfect for a young child or adult. (Sorry, no children below age 5 considered - refer to rules and policies). The theme is white with blue accents. The bathroom upstairs is split into two, the inner bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, the outer with sink, mirror, and linen/ medicine cabinets. The front room downstairs overlooking the water has dining area/ combination living room, with the deck accessible from sliding glass door on front and door on side. The couches are oversized, comfortable for relaxing, cocktails, reading, and socializing. Rocking chairs can be moved around to view the water or join in the fun in the living room.
There is a family room in the back where the first door enters the house with spectrum cable, large Smart TV, wireless internet, and Netflix. This room has closing doors off the kitchen and living room. It seats 4 comfortably on the couch and armchair. You can bring one of the rustic rocking chairs or hassock in for extra seating if needed. The house has older antique wooden furniture with charm, mixed with some modern pieces, and beautiful seascape and Asian artwork and decorative features throughout (antiques/ stained glass, carved birds and other art). In the closet in the family room, you can find cushions for the porch dining set, pillows for couch, a spare kitchen grill, and spare placemats. There is a small bathroom next to the family room for easy access when entering or leaving the house. The pictures do not fully display the beauty and details of our house, grounds or beach. Don’t worry you will be pleasantly surprised!
The kitchen is fully stocked with cook pots, cast iron pans, aluminum pans, Silverstone pans, lobster pot, stew pot, 4 slice toaster, wall oven, slow cooking plug in pots, microwave, blender, coffee maker, coffee grinder, waffle maker, lobster cutlery, and serving dishes, mugs, wine glasses, beer mugs, wooden spoons, pitcher, utensils, lettuce cleaner, cutting boards, knives, etc. In the cabinet over the new propane 5 burner stove, there are spices, cooking oils /sprays, cordial glasses and champagne glasses. The brand-new propane stove has five electric start burners and cooks very efficiently. In the kitchen closet you will find assorted items such as baskets, cutting boards, baggies, paper plates, spare paper towels, aluminum foil, plastic wrap and barbeque utensils. There are all the accessories if you decide to have takeout lobsters from Thurston’s lobster pound down the street, including plates, bibs, and butter warmers, and lobster utensils.
The living room has comfortable furniture for relaxing, socializing, cocktails, reading and games. In the bottom of the desk are a variety of games and cards for leisure activities. The shelves in the living room have interesting art books, books of local interest and guides/ maps for hiking that you may borrow. There are a multitude of cookbooks particularly focusing on seafood and healthy cooking to help you get creative in the kitchen or as you are cooking on the grill. Hopefully this house will have all that you need to access to truly have a wonderful vacation while you stay here and you will want to return year after year in the summer or early fall to relax and create more seashore Down East Maine memories with your family!
We have received many compliments on the charm of this house, with many returning guests yearly. We are constantly making upgrades to the interior, exterior, and to its furnishings. This year was no exception!
We have a wonderful restaurant /bar at end of street, Thurston's which is known for its steamed lobster, giant and smaller lobster roll, crab roll, fish chowder and lobster stew, clams, mussels and many other delicious appetizer foods! It has a quaint full-service bar with local Atlantic brews on tap with beautiful artistic interior! It is a very comfortable bar/ restaurant that we frequent on every trip here to mix with locals and visitors!

About the host
Hosted by Reine Tracy
This has been our family residence since 1943.
Why they chose this property
This was my parents' property. If it had not been for this property I may never have settled in the beautiful state of Maine. Even during the hottest of summer weather, it is usually very pleasant on the water here.
What makes this property unique
I have summered here all my life. My family came here every August from Long Island, New York. I remember the excitement arriving every summer, swimming at Long Pond, eating lobster, going to Jordan Pond, and hiking throughout Acadia's trails with my family and other relatives. Nice place to relax, unwind, smell the salt air, and pines. We arrived and immediately ran down to the beach to explore.
