Rock Holme -this is a private oceanfront house set on a point with views of Bass Harbor and outer islands. It has a large deck with chaise chairs, dining furniture, and large gas barbecue grill. The beach is accessible from the front yard and through a short woods path. The beach after a walk through the woods has large stones to sunbath on, and picnic on and an island that appears at low tide. There is some beach sand that occurs on our beach and a nice soft sand public beach at low tide within walking distance. The front beach is ideal to launch kayaks from and to beach comb. There are three bedrooms. The front master bedroom with queen bed overlooks the water. The other queen bedroom overlooks the yard with a side window facing the water. There is a smaller bedroom with a twin bed in between. The bathroom upstairs is split into two, inner bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, outer with sink, mirror, and linen/ medicine cabinets. The front room downstairs overlooking the water has dining area/ combination living room, with the deck accessible from sliding glass door on front and door on side. There is a family room in back with cable,tv, wireless internet, netflix, seats 4 comfortably. House has older wooden furniture with charm, modern pieces, and nice artwork and decorative features throughout. The kitchen is fully stocked with a small bathroom next to family room. We have gotten many compliments on the charm of this house, with many returning guests yearly. We are constantly making upgrades.

About Reine Tracy

This has been our family residence since 1943.

Why Reine Tracy chose Mount Desert Island

This was my parents' property. If it had not been for this property I may never have settled in the beautiful state of Maine. Even during the hottest of summer weather, it is usually very pleasant on the water here.

What makes this house unique

I have summered here all my life. My family came here every August from Long Island, New York. I remember the excitement arriving every summer, swimming at Long Pond, eating lobster, going to Jordan Pond, and hiking throughout Acadia's trails with my family and other relatives. Nice place to relax, unwind, smell the salt air, and pines. We arrived and immediately ran down to the beach to explore.

This property is right on the ocean, bird life abundant, schooners anchor in front on occasion. This is a working lobster waterfront, sightings include seals, eagles, one frequently seen) blue herons, osprey, ducks, deer, etc. lots of other bird life. There's always something interesting to view from our point and the deck. Great place to sea kayak. Swans island ferry goes out multiple times daily from across Bass Harbor. Some boat excursions go out multiple times daily from our harbor. Great seafood restaurant and bar, near end of road (Thurston's) can walk to, also Seafood Ketch for bit more formal setting, with short drive to Bass Harbor, multiple restaurants in Southwest Harbor, all types in Bar Harbor. Area is known for lobster, crabmeat, and scallops. The deck with sliding glass doors-for morning coffee to start day and lunch and dinner with gentle sun, warms midday and cools when tide comes in. Nice modern barbecue for dinners. Very relaxing, private, and cozy place

Million dollar views and cozy home!!

  • 5 of 5

Enjoy the "quiet side" of the island with exquisite views right outside your bedroom window. The rocky shore is a wonderland for kids to explore and see crabs and other sea life in tide pools. Comfortable home has everything you need and instills that quintessential feeling of a Maine cabin. Our family loved it and would return in a heartbeat. Walk to Thurston's Lobster Pound for the best lobster roll on MDI.

Perfect Maine getaway

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay. House was as advertised... right on the water with cottage charm. Very clean and spacious enough for our family of five. My wife enjoyed coffee on the deck overlooking the harbor in the mornings. The kids loved exploring the rocky coast for sea glass, shells and little sea creatures in the evenings.

Beautiful, private harbor setting in a charming home

  • 4 of 5

If you want away from the crowds, but yet close to a town that has everything, then this is the place for you. You can sit on the deck and watch the tide go in and out and see the lobster boats and breathe the fresh air with nature all around you.

My favorite part was climbing into that glorious bed, with all the windows open to read after a day filled with so many activities.

Reine has done an outstanding job to every detail. If you can't find something or have a question, she's available to help.

It's a half hour to Bar Harbor and the main part of the park, but take the time to explore the harbors all around you, each with its own character and towns with great shops

My familie's favorite day was a waffle breakfast at the house, then hiking Acadia Mountain trail. After that we shopped in Bernard and stopped into the ice cream shop. Back home we showered, did yoga on the deck and stretched out in the sun. We picked the Upper Deck for dinner and it was amaizing.

I especially loved the Whale and Puffin boat trip.

We have lots of photos and beautiful memories forever. Acadia I miss you!

Much more than expected!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and 14 year old spent a week here, our first visit to Acadia. The pictures just do not do this jewel of a home justice. What an enchanting place. Beautifully remodeling of this 1903 family home, complete with evidence of family love and nurturing, where you can look in every nook and cranny and find the owners' personal touches providing everything anyone could ever need or want. Waking up in the huge master bedroom with the view of the harbor made me feel like I never wanted to leave the room. A incredibly well appointed kitchen also with every item you could ever want or need. The great room leading out to the spacious deck was heavenly. And let's not forget the grounds. Front back and sides all lsndscaped beautifully. The care taken in this property totally exceeded my expectations. Oh- and the bookshelves! I wanted to read every book in the house! I not only loved the house, but felt a closeness with the family that owns it. Just the way they have everything as I would in my own home and the added details that they took care in providing to make it a comfortable and relaxing vacation made this one of the best rental experiences ever.

A word of caution - this is a home that you do not want to treat thoughtlessly - if you do not take care, it would be a terrible shame to see this home "trashed". It is a pristine jewel and we tried to care for it as if it were our own.

As for the location, we loved being on the quiet side of the island, driving around was part of the fun. I would only say the only complaint I have about our vacation was that if we came back i would have to buy my own lobsters and cook them myself. I could not find a hard shelled lobster (so late in the season I suppose- we learned a great deal about the lobster trade, having done two tours) and I felt the restaurants were overpriced. To boot, I often do buy my own lobsters, and I really questioned the how they pass off chicken lobsters as pound and 1/2s. Other than that, everything we did, from relaxing at the house to all the adventures around the island, made this a great vacation! Thank you Reine and Bill and the rest of your family for sharing your home with us!!! Laura and Kevin

Wonderful vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We loved our vacation at this comfortable cottage. What an amazing location! The view is incredible, and we enjoyed watching the lobster boats going in and out of Bass Harbor. Our kids loved playing on the rocky shore. We like to cook, and the kitchen is well stocked, including all the tools needed for lobster! The owner was extremely helpful in providing information and tips about the house and things to do in the area. We liked being on the quiet side of the island, and we enjoyed exploring the nearby towns of Bass Harbor and Southwest Harbor, as well as Bar Harbor on the other side of the island.

Great views and privacy in a good location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 9 nights at this cottage in August 2013. We loved that we were situated on the water and could watch lobster boats and sailboats coming in and out of the harbor. At the same time, we appreciated the privacy that some pine trees gave us. We kept a kayak on the front lawn and carried it just a few short steps to the water to launch it. A short path leads to additional ocean frontage where you find big rocks suitable for climbing over, or sunbathing/relaxing on. We never went to a restaurant for dinner because we couldn’t imagine finding a better waterfront view.

The cottage is kept meticulously clean, the kitchen is fully equipped, the furnishings are comfortable, and the beds and bedding are up-to-date and comfortable.

We appreciated not being locked into a Saturday-to-Saturday rental, which is what the real estate brokered rentals require. Because of the owner’s flexibility and willingness to work with us, we were able to customize the length of our stay.

This cottage has been owned by the same family for many years. You can sense the happy memories that have been made here over the years. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to make our own happy memories here as well.

Owner's Response: I am so glad that the cottage met all your expectations! My family when staying at the footage enjoy eating in as well using the barbecue grill, crabmeat and lobster from across the harbor, and local produce from local organic gardners/ farmers market in town hill Fridays. Cookbooks are abundent in the cottage for reference and ideas for seafoods, barbecue. Glad the access for the kayaks was easy.
