A writer's paradise, this home has had more best selling books written within it's walls than any home on the Mendocino Coast line. An inspiration to authors, the energy at 247 Solstice in Sea Ranch is tranquil and still--making it the perfect romantic get away or writer's retreat from the world. Decorated with the ocean in mind, the house is elegant and comfortable all at once. Three bedrooms (one set up for kids with two sets of bunk beds sleeping 4) and one queen guest room and one California King, this 2500 square foot home is perfect for one to two couples and four kids. With chairs and sitting areas to fall back into in every corner, the home is the ideal respite to grab a book and disappear into it's pages. A perfect setting to enjoy all of the amenities of coastal living at it's best, a short walk from a sauna and heated pool plus tennis courts. The private sea ranch foot path is just off the deck, and stretches for about 13 miles up and down one of the most gorgeous cliff-side coastlines in the world. Walk-on beach is a mere ten minute trek, but there's no need to go further than the front room for full enjoyment of a spectacular view to watch the whales go by from the couch.

The Carlson Beach House is one of the best places I’ve ever stayed and I have stayed in numerous VRBO’s around the country. It’s warm, inviting, comfortable, and relaxing! The perfect respite from the busy world. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!
No words just perfect.
Excellent location, beautiful house
Beautiful, well appointed house. Carol was excellent to work with. White carpeting and more delicate decor would make it not ideal for those with younger children. We loved it and will be back.
We had a wonderful second stay at the Carlson Beach House. The only downside is that the wifi needs work.
Why We Keep Coming Back
This is our family go-to place for a great week and Thanksgiving with gorgeous views in very comfortable surroundings. We were greeted by fruit flies (they enjoyed the wine also), pill bugs (no leftovers for them) and an errant chirping smoke alarm none of which diminished our stay. The house is ideally situated on the bluff for fantastic ocean views and the convenience of a trail right outside the deck for hiking. The pantry was well stocked for those small items you forgot from home and the local gourmet grocery store (Surf Market) fills in the blanks. The two-bedroom down and master bedroom up makes for an ideal arrangement-especially with the younger generation. The large living room offers a cozy gathering place for either whale or TV watching or reading. There is plenty of space for everyone to race around or relax. The kitchen was given a good workout while we prep'd for Thanksgiving diner. It is nice to have ocean views from every room. We will be back to this Sea Ranch gem.
Nice Quiet Relaxing Weekend
Our stay was Friday to Sunday. Owners were accommodating and easy to work with. Booking process seemed a little strange to me but it did work out and was somewhat informal. There is a rental agreement you have to sign but it is not something I would hand off to a lawyer. It basically says respect the house and don't break things. Behavior normal people exhibit anyway. I was extremely surprised to see how close the house was to the ocean. We has 2 or 3 whale sightings from the living room that weekend. Full view and sounds from the ocean from the living room and outside deck. Extremely close to the trails and less than 150 yards from the oceans edge. Home was furnished nicely, clean and neat. Lots of books and if you could find something that interested you in the collection, there were several places that allowed for quiet relaxing reading. Kitchen was modern clean and stocked with nearly every type of cooking utensil you would need to cook breakfast or dinner. No Oyster Shucker......but we bought one and left it in the drawer for the next person to use. Microwave, dual ovens, gas cooktop, and dish washer made the kitchen easy to use. Charcoal BBQ and a small propane camp stove are also available for outdoor cooking.
There were towels in the house that we used for the beach and a canoe in the garage. There was a bike in the garage but we did not have a tire pump so we could not make use of the bike. Garage was not cluttered and you could easily park your car in the garage for the stay.
There was a washer and dryer that we made use of because the trails are dusty. Patio has an enclosed glass rail that keeps the wind out but allows you to look at and over the ocean. There was a TV that had dish and there is wifi in the house. The router needed to be rebooted once but in all honesty if you are watching tv up there or plugging in you are not getting the value of the home. There are miles of trails and views that will completely relax you.
In truth all you need to enjoy the house is your toothbrush, some clothes, and what ever food you want to cook. I would not bother hauling up a bunch of stuff because the near by town has a very quaint and well stocked grocery store. They had incredibly high quality meats and lots or organics.
If they will have us back we will likely do this again next year.
Also, the photos of the house on line do not really do it justice.
A very relaxing, stress free, quiet and serene weekend...
