Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8)

It’s paradise on earth. At least we have thought so for the last 30 years. Situated on a secluded, private drive halfway between Holland and Grand Haven, our cottage sits on a dune on the Lake Michigan beach in an area known as Port Sheldon. Sitting on one of our two decks, you look north and see the Port Sheldon pier, the inlet to Pigeon Lake. Looking far to the south, on a clear day you can see Big Red, the lighthouse at the Holland pier.

Looking down and west, you see nothing but sand and water, beachcombers and sun bathers, power boats, jet skis, sailboats. You name it.

And since the cottage is close to Pigeon Lake it’s a great place to bring a boat. There’s a huge DNR boat ramp for anything you can get on a trailer, and there’s a small public launching spot a little closer for small boats or jet skis. Both ramps on Pigeon Lake lie within a mile of the cottage. When the waves are too big on Lake Michigan, you can pull a water-skier or an inner tube on the calm waters of Pigeon Lake.

The cottage itself has two bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and a large bath. As you can see by the pictures, the kitchen, eating area, sitting area, game room is actually all one large great room. It’s perfect for a family with children.

But when you’re there, you’ll want to be outside as much as possible. Perhaps you’ll enjoy the huge outside deck as much as we have. We already know you’ll love the private beach. And the neighbors won’t mind if you want to take a walk on the beach – you can walk up to Pigeon Lake or walk for miles south toward Holland.

When you want to venture further abroad, there are many other options available. There is a wonderful system of bike trails which will take you all the way to Holland and beyond or up to Grand Haven where you can enjoy one of the best breakfast nooks in all of West Michigan (we’d be happy to tell you where it is). We do it every year.

Or you could take a drive to the twice-weekly Farmer’s Market in Holland and stock up on some of the freshest produce our local farmers have to offer. Or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, a short drive up the street will bring you to our favorite blueberry farm where you can buy a quart or two -- or pick your own.

If you’re in Holland on a Thursday, you might want to check out the Holland Street Fair, or perhaps take in a play at the Hope College Summer Theatre.

Peaceful and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was the perfect place for my husband, myself and my mother-in-law to enjoy a quiet week together. We enjoyed the open floor plan with the large windows facing west. The view was amazing, especially out on the deck extension where we were able to take in several gorgeous sunsets. It felt private and remote even though there were neighboring homes nearby. The cottage is clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the gas grill and other amenities. Beach access is 127 steps down, but worth the trek on the private staircase. The landlords were very good to deal with from beginning to end, and were responsive to questions. For days when we wanted to drive into town, Holland was only 20 minutes away. We give high ratings to this cottage and to the relaxing and memorable week we were able to spend there!

Great cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was ideal for our family of six ranging from ages 17 to 58. Such a pretty setting plus the home was spotless and very well stocked! Coming from an ER nurse who is married to a safety director the only thing I would recommend is adding additional railing around the overlook landing. It would be very easy to get too close to the edge and step off the side. Spending the week there was so relaxing . . we hated to come home to hot and humid Kansas!

Owner's Response: We are always grateful to our guests who provide us with feedback which makes the care, comfort, and security of any future guests more certain. We have addressed the issue of extra railings around the overlook deck (All three sides now have railings) and we will be improving the safety and security of the deck even further in the months to come.

A perfect Family Fun Spot!!!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful week we had in this beautiful cottage tucked away on the shore of Lake Michigan. The property was ready for immediate occupancy upon our arrival and the house was neat/clean and provided all the luxuries of home. We enjoyed days on the beach, an evening in town watching the street performers, and an adventure to explore the Holland lighthouse. We highly recommend this rental and working with the owners as they clearly enjoy and treasure this fabulous get-away!! Be ready for the steps to the beach......but just know you are burning calories so you can have an extra dessert!!

Perfect Spot

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect retreat. Awesome location away from traffic, but close enough to everything. Home was clean and cozy. Owners were fantastic. Property was even nicer in person than it looked online. We are going to book this again for next year.

Fantastic vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a wonderful week with our adult children at this beautiful vacation home. The house was exceptionally clean and offered everything you could need for a week at the beach. The open floor plan with tons of windows brought Lake Michigan right inside. The views and subsets were stupendous. We have been renting on Lake Michigan for over 13 years and this was by far our favorite. The hosts were very helpful and provided lots of information. Can't wait to go back!

The Ideal Lake Michigan Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a beautiful week watching Lake Michigan sunsets, flying kites on the beach, and hosting friends and family for cookouts at the cottage. The cottage comes with everything you'll need for a comfy, stress-free getaway -- including kind hosts who leave homemade strawberry jam in the fridge! We especially loved that the space was flexible for small and large groups... it was easy to have people over for dinner, or our in-laws overnight, and not feel cramped. And yet when it was just the two of us hanging out there, it didn't feel like we were surrounded by an empty house. We're grateful that the cottage was available when we were in town -- it really made our trip a special one!
