'Ebb and Flow' a light and airy seaside get-away at Crescent Beach

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Relaxing and serene, Ebb and Flow is a lovely vacation home located just a short walk from sandy Crescent Beach. Vintage decor and special touches enhance the cottage charm of this comfy and cozy retreat.

The master bedroom features a queen-sized antique iron bed and private bath. The full bedroom has a white vintage cottage style bed and the twin bedroom features wicker furniture. Each bedroom enjoys a beautiful ocean view. Plenty of windows provide natural light and offer cool sea breezes.

The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook a fabulous lobster dinner right down to the bibs. There is all new kitchenware including all-clad cookware and corelle dishes. The country kitchen features an antique hutch and farm table. Off the back deck is a patio with picnic table and gas grille for cook outs. There is a large, private yard with a beautiful lawn for kids to play in and lawn chairs in case you want to relax under a tree and read.

In the morning, grab a cup of coffee and sit on the front porch and watch the sun rise over Penobscot Bay or walk down to Crescent Beach and greet the day. At the end of a full day of playing in the sun and enjoying all of the activities the area has to offer, fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping at the shore or maybe the distant echo of the fog horn.

If you have a rainy day, don't fear - the cottage is fully stocked with rainy day entertainment such as games and cards, a full bookcase, high-speed wireless, TV with cable and a DVD player and lots of family-friendly movies.

Crescent Beach is ideally situated for exploring Owls Head and the mid-coast area. Some of the highlights of Owls Head include the renowned Transportation Museum, Knox County Airport (Cape Air flies into Owls Head from Boston and other regional locations and car rentals are offered at the airport, too), the quaint Owls Head General Store (home of the award-winning 'Best Burger in Maine') and nearby Owls Head State Park which features the popular Owls Head Lighthouse. Lucia Beach is located a few minutes away from the house by car in Birch Point State Park and offers a pristine beach, picnic facilities and hiking trails.

Owls Head is only 10 minutes away from Rockland. Rockland's busy harbor is the second largest in Maine and is the setting for the Samoset resort. Rockland offers many amenities including: hospital, restaurants and shops, antiques, the Farnsworth Museum, the Sail, Power and Steam Museum, art galleries, two movie theaters including the historic Strand Theatre, and many recreational, tourist and harbor activities. Ferries leave 6 times a day from Rockland for the islands of North Haven and Vinalhaven. Twenty minutes north is the scenic town of Camden.

Crescent Beach, when the tide is out a bit, is a lovely, safe, family-friendly sandy beach. Perfect for building sand-castles, beach combing for seashells and sea glass and of course, swimming. The gentle waves are safe for children to play in and offer hours of summer fun.

About Kathy and Walt

My husband and I honeymooned in Maine and have been visiting the mid-coast area for many years. When we came to Owls Head we fell in love with it!

Kathy and Walt purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Kathy and Walt chose Mid-Coast & Islands

It's a relaxing place where you can enjoy the peace and quiet, but when you want to have some fun - all of the activities you might want are just a few minutes away in Rockland. It's the best of both worlds.

Not that there isn't plenty to keep you occupied right in Owls Head between the beach and other local attractions. And when you're hungry, the Owls Head General Store is just 4 minutes from the house. Besides Maine's 'best burger' they serve delicious homemade haddock chowder, veggie soup and wonderful gourmet sandwiches. We can attest to the fabulous food because we eat there often when we're in town!

What makes this cottage unique

We bought the property in April and have been working on it all spring and summer to make it just right for you to enjoy! Other than some vintage and antique items, most of the furnishings are new. New living room furniture, beds and linens, dishes and cookware and lots of special decorative touches. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed putting it all together for you. Come sit on the porch and watch the boats go by and enjoy a little bit of Maine for yourself - it's lovely in any season!

Absolutely AMAZING

  • 5 of 5

We loved it. It was great to be so close to the beach. We explored the crescent beach walk, owls head state park, the birchmont state park. Absolutely beautiful coastline. We loved the interior design- very cozy yet did not feel small! I don't know how you did that but that was incredible. We would love to come back again.

Beautiful cottage, convenient location and perfect relaxing vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was the most beautiful vacation spot we have ever been to and for a very reasonable cost. Perfect convenient location. Short 5 minute walk to breathtaking Crescent Beach. Short 5 minute drive to beautiful Birch Point State Park and nearby town of Rockland. Cottage is impeccably clean. Previous reviews indicated that the owners have thought of everything and indeed they have. Wonderful kitchen with everything we needed to make meals at home. The beds were so comfortable. We enjoyed this very much. Would recommend when arriving to read the wonderful guide and activity book that the owners put together that has wonderful day trip ideas and sights to see. Also loved the guest entry book which gave us more ideas. Will miss the beautiful cottage, breathtaking views, and mouth watering fresh lobster from Jess's Market. Will be back!

Peace, Tranquility and a beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

Ebb and Flo cottage is very quaint, with a well stocked kitchen containing everything you need to cook your own meals. The beds are very comfortable. The view is really nice. At this time of year the area was very quiet and peaceful and was just what we needed for a relaxing vacation. When we arrived for our stay there was a welcoming gift from the owners Kathy and Walt waiting for us upon the table which was unexpected and gratefully appreciated. There's a TV with cable, a DVD player and plenty of books and DVD ' S to keep you occupied on a rainy day. The living room although small was very comfortable. We stayed at Ebb and Flo cottage from 10/29/16 - 11/5/16. We look forward to staying there again in the future.

A Wonderful Week in Owl's Head, Maine !!!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment that we walked into the house, we were at home! My wife immediately fell in love with the kitchen, especially!

Everything had been prepared for our visit - clean bathrooms, neat and tidy living room with a view of the ocean across the street,

all the rooms were clean and wonderfully furnished and decorated! The welcome messages and gifts were an unexpected surprise!

After a long 19+ hour day, we showered and went to bed - in a very comfy bed that was greatly appreciated by these weary travelers!

Though the view across the street has been somewhat impeded by a new cottage, it was still such a joy to sit and watch the "ebb and flow" of the water through the front windows! When I walked out the door in the early morning - the silence was amazing, broken only by the sound of each lobster boat as it headed out of Owl's Head harbor and out to sea! As the sun rose, or as it set, it gave such a special feeling to our "cottage by the sea"!

Believe me when I say that this is a place that, once you arrive, you don't want to leave! Of course, we visited the Owl's Head General Store

and enjoyed the 7 Napkin Burger! After, we visited Owl's Head Lighthouse and enjoyed the small museum and gift shop that is now located

in the former Lighthouse Keeper's House! The town of Rockland is not too far away, so you might enjoy a visit to the Maine Lighthouse Museum! Also, take the time to visit Birch Point State Park - in the off season, it's only about a half mile walk to the water's edge - what a nice, relaxing place to just sit and watch the water!

As I told Kathy, the only thing we left behind at "Ebb and Flow" was our hearts! If you should visit, I think you might agree!

Bright, airy, quiet, clean "manufactured home" near water and cove beach

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful six-night stay at "Ebb and Flow." The "cottage" is a bright and airy, quiet and clean, three-bedroom and two-bath manufactured home across the street from waterfront houses, with some good views of the water and islands. The cottage is nicely arranged and decorated, with good, basic kitchen and bathroom facilities, and is surrounded by an extensive yard and woods in back. Its location in Owl's Head is quiet, with friendly neighbors taking walks in the morning and evening, and as noted in the property description, it's a ten-minute walk to a neighborhood beach. The property description on VRBO is generally very accurate. Overall, it's a good value.

Communicating with the owners was quite good at first. They replied almost immediately to our request to book . However, it took a week to get an on-line contract, and we had to request the code for the lock-box three days before the start date (despite their emails saying the code would be sent a week or two before the beginning rental date). BTW, the code did not work on our arrival, and fortunately Kathy and Walt were available to answer our call.

Owner's Response: We’re glad that our guests had such a wonderful time at the cottage, enjoying the neighborhood, beach and the beautiful views. But, we’re sorry to hear that there were things that they felt could have gone better. We want all of our guests to have the best possible experience at Ebb and Flow Cottage and we appreciate hearing their feedback. We’re sorry that the rental agreement didn’t come as soon as our guests expected. They were our first guests after switching to the “book now” system and we hadn’t yet worked out the kinks, which delayed the agreement by a couple of days. It took a few phone calls with VRBO to set it up so that our agreements would once again be delivered simultaneously with booking. We're sorry that these guests were part of our learning curve! Our check-in information is delivered one week before arrival, although we are changing that now to two weeks. We’re also sorry that this guest had trouble with the lock box and understand that they were frustrated. The housekeeper verified the code before arrival and again when they checked-in, and it was the correct code. We suspect that these guests may have been confused about how to open it. We like the lock box system because it gives our guests flexibility in their arrival times, and our housekeeper is available to open the door if we ever have another guest with this trouble. Again, we thank our guests for their feedback, and for the nice things said about Ebb and Flow Cottage. We strive to make all of our guests stays as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.

Your home was perfect for a very relaxing vacation. Very clean and had everything we needed. We love our daily walks to the beach and relaxing in the evening at the house. Grilling in the back yard was a nice touch. There is so much to do around the area and the house is a great location. The owners put a great effort in making sure you have everything you need including a very thoughtful phone call and welcome gift. Very class act.
