Wonderful, but Disappointing

  • 2 of 5

We are a group of eight friends who graduated from high school over 50 years ago. We gather each year somewhere in the United States to celebrate our friendship. Several of us have used VRBO/Homeaway and are familiar with the process and the excellent properties offered.

This rental's wonderful, quiet beach location provides opportunities for long beach walks in a peaceful setting. It is also close to the area's abundant sight-seeing opportunities. The house's location suited our get-away requirements, since the seasonal climate in the area is a welcome change for those who live in colder climates. We were delighted that this house had so many windows and open spaces so that we could enjoy the sea air during the moderate climate available in November.

The house met most of our space needs because of the large, well-stocked kitchen, the spacious gathering areas in the living room and the dining room, and the wonderful screened porch with 10 rocking chairs and beach views. The parking area was also very adequate for parking several cars. The only concern about space that we had was the size of the ground floor bathroom. The three bedrooms on the ground floor could accommodate ten people; the bathroom was very, very small for possibly ten people.

We were disappointed, at the very least, when the benefits of our wonderful stay at this grand old beach home were undermined by the way the owner handled a maintenance problem: when one of the windows literally fell apart at the bottom when we closed it, the owner kept our substantial security deposit, blaming us for what was obviously a house-maintenance issue. Therefore, we would caution renters who want to enjoy the obvious benefits of this grand old beach home to make their payments through the rental website's payment process and to purchase the Carefree Rental Guarantee.

Large home for Family get-togethers!

  • 4 of 5

This is an older classic beachfront home, with plenty of room for a family gathering. The owner has worked to keep the home current with big screen TVs, and upgraded bedding. It also shows some classic home wear and tear, but it is spacious, with plenty of "get away" space when you need a moment to yourself. The huge dining room table was perfect for full family meals. We had a couple of issues with the air while we were there, but the owner was very quick to address them, and overall it was a lovely place to be. The ocean is a bit of a walk, but using the wooden boardwalk takes you to the edge of the beach. The upstairs sun deck of the home is pretty spectacular, and we enjoyed nightly stargazing. The house is physically very close to Palm Boulevard, and traffic is quite heavy. Once inside and on the ocean side of the home, you would never know you were on a busy street. There is a beachside raised deck/storage that became our favorite place to end the day...full view of the ocean, nice breeze, and sunset over your shoulder. Pets were allowed with an additional fee. This is obviously a family home, rented from time to time. We had a great visit.

Family Vacation Dream

  • 5 of 5

Our family (16 of us) filled this lovely home twice and we have very sweet memories of it ... plenty of room to relax, play board games, visit, laugh, cook together; easy walk across the dunes to the beach; fill the dining room table ... first time it was the headquarters of the bride's family for a downtown wedding; second time (a year later) we were married on the screen porch with the other 12 or so family members as witnesses ... that may have been breaking a rule but the house blessed us and we think we did the same for it ... lovely, lovely home; everything you want for a great family beach vacation ...
