About Ken Canter

Born and raised in the Triad region of North Carolina, my wife and and I have always loved to come to Boone in the summer as well as the winter. As children, we came in the summer to ride 'Old Tweesie', pan for gold and swim in the cool mountain streams. During the winters, we came to shop, to ski and to pick out the perfect Christmas tree. What memories! As adults, we come to enjoy the cool, fresh air, the simpleness of a small town, the wonderful restaurants, the shopping, but most of all, we come to unwind and de-stress and to spend a little time with old friends and family.Of course, we still come for that perfect Christmas tree!

Ken Canter purchased this estate in 2013

Why Ken Canter chose Blue Ridge Mountains

My wife and I looked for a property like this for over 6 years!

A property specifically designed for groups as large as 50.

A property that was 'close to it all' but still away from the 'hussle and bussle' of the city. (so we could see the stars without light pollution)

A property with a special area for the "Kid" in all of us to never forget

A property with gentle sloping meadows for walking or sledding in the winter.

A property with unforgettable views from every room.

A property that would encourage you to relax and reminisce about days gone by.

A property that would be remembered by many as 'one of their best vacations ever'.

What makes this estate unique

All of the features included in the 12,000+ square feet of living space were designed to make your stay unforgetable. From the extremely open floor plan, extra large rooms, one of a kind Glamping Room, incredible views from every window, oversized bedrooms, the spacious lodge w/ its 12 foot, High Definition Theatre, grand stone fireplace and wet bar, the living room with a wood burning fireplace, multiple oversized dining areas with 5 dining tables and (2) bars (48 seats total), steam shower and gas fireplace, the oversized fire-pit and the wrap around front porch, it all was built to say, "Welcome home"!

Lovely weekend away with gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

My friends and family and I loved our stay at Sunnyside Farms! The house is phenomenal and really exceeded our expectations. The property is beautiful and I would come stay again in a heartbeat. The internet wasn't cooperative during our weekend (probably something to do with being in the mountains) but that didn't even matter as we weren't there to be glued to our phones all weekend. The fire pit and glamping center were nice touches. I definitely recommend this property!

Incredible place to build memories

  • 5 of 5

This house is incredible! The location was fantastic! The views from every angle were breathtaking. We had a group of 22 and it was more than spacious for all of us. The kitchen was magnificent. The fire pit was a favorite night time gathering spot. The younger members of our group loved the recreation/glamping room. Ken, the landlord, was super responsive and helpful.

The house is a short distance from Grandfather Mountain, gem mining, kayaking, cave excursions, paragliding (you can see the paragliders floating over the nearby mountains), antiquing, a great brewery and so many other fun destinations and activities! Our younger members even did some "squatching." (Bigfoot hunting)

We really couldn't have asked for more! We highly recommend!

Perfect Family Reunion Location

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time together cooking, playing board games, talking, watching movies, sharing stories, doing crafts, playing volleyball and horseshoes, flying kites, and especially enjoying the fire pit area at nights, eating s'mores while viewing the beautiful starlit sky. The house is absolutely huge and set up perfectly for a reunion. One end of the house worked well for sleeping and quieter activities while the other end of the house was perfect for louder activities. The huge family room has a wonderful theater and the upstairs game room has the most charming room with three large tents that are set up with queen beds or two twins, a dresser, lamp and "fireplace coal stove" in each tent. The room is so creatively decorated. At night, the ceiling is covered with stars and even the earth can be seen. Foosball, pool, golf, darts and many other games. Truly a perfect reunion home! Wonderful, helpful owners!

Another Outstanding visit!

  • 5 of 5

We spent the week of the Fourth of July here with 18 people, ages 3-74, and had a great time. There's so much to do in the NC mountains and this house is in a central, but private, location for it all. The home was very clean and trouble-free for the week with plenty of room for everyone, particularly with the new "glamping" room. Evenings around the fire were preferable to all the TVs in the house and the next-door neighbors put on a 4th of July fireworks show rivalling most small towns! It was our second visit here and the next time we have a family week in the mountains, this is where we'll stay.
