Comfortable, Clean and Scenic

  • 5 of 5

What a great experience it was to spend a week at this lovely cottage. We were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful landscape and the lovely elements of nature. From the interesting and beautiful flowering plants to and fruit trees to the cute little animals such as rabbits and squirrels running around and birds of every kind happily chirping in the trees. It was fun to lay in bed in the mornings and watch the sunrise and the wild life prancing around outside. The cottage is tucked away and feels very private, but it's within close proximity of a wide variety of eating areas and shopping centers, but you would need a car. We felt very safe with the owners living on the grounds. They were quite friendly and professional, however they completely respected our privacy, and we appreciated that. All amenities were available along with very reliable wifi and access to Netflix, which was a treat for us. If you'd like to experience something unique and different, this is the place! I can't say enough about it! Thanks Mac and Tricia for just a wonderful week!

The Casita in Encinitas is a comfy home base for relaxation, eating, shopping, beaches...

  • 5 of 5

The Casita was a pleasant place to stay, not within walking distance to the beaches, but a short drive away. It is an excellent base for exploring the beach towns along Highway 101. Access to shopping and restaurants is abundant and a quick and easy drive north along El Camino Real from this property. I loved Isabelle Brien's French Pastry Shop for breakfast near the CVS Pharmacy at the corner of Encinitas and El Camino Real.

The small Casita has a spacious feeling with bright natural lighting, raised ceilings and an efficient, open layout. Views of the canyon from the east-facing deck are very peaceful making this a good spot to hang out in the morning. An oversize leather sofa and chair make for a very comfortable, inviting living area. The bed was extremely comfortable with a great mattress, plenty of pillows and wonderfully scented linens. You could spend hours luxuriating in the gigantic tiled shower with plenty of hot water delivered under strong pressure -- no conservative trickle here! A big window in the shower with a view of the surrounding landscape seems private enough, but who knows for sure about that. The well-equipped kitchen has all sorts of dishes (we managed to cook a full Thanksgiving dinner here!) and good quality operating appliances, including a full-size washer & dryer. TV's and cable services were great in both the living room and bedroom.

A couple areas for improvement: the furnace was not functioning the first chilly night of our stay. A repair could not be made for a week so limited heat was provided by the gas fireplace and a big down comforter. Fortunately after two days the weather changed with an unseasonable heat wave and lack of heat became a non-issue. Barking dogs from the kennel uphill from the Casita occasionally disrupted the peace, especially in the morning at feeding time. An angry female attendant constantly yelling at the dogs to keep quiet was actually more disruptive than the animals. Based on my impression that the kennel staff was not very caring or even dog-friendly, I would hesitate to board my pet at the Alcala Pet Resort.

Communication with the Casita owner before our visit was very good. Since the owner's house is next door to the rental property, any needs during our stay were easily met. We found the owners very personable and non-intrusive during our stay. We would recommend this VRBO to others and hope to stay here again ourselves.

It is a beautiful 1 bedroom casitas in a quiet location with great views. Well stocked kitchen and minutes from the Seaside Market made for some fabulous private dinners. Our second stay and hopefully more in the future.

Oasis of Serenity

  • 5 of 5

We originally had reservations at a hotel near the beach for Wavecrest Woodie Meet weekend. There was some sort of mix-up at hotel for the original planned weekend. When the dates for the meet were changed, our reservation was cancelled. No rooms were available on the new weekend, so we decided to go a totally different direction for lodging. The casita looked beautiful in the pictures and was everything it's description promised. Waking up to look out the window to sunrise in the canyon and quail walking around below the deck was amazing. The gardens were especially beautiful. Getting away from the traffic and beach noise made for a perfect weekend. The casita seems isolated, but is actually only minutes away from shopping and the beach. It was MUCH better than staying in a hotel, plus we were able to have a different view of Southern California. Thanks for helping us to have a great weekend!

Handsome canyon setting with amenities.

  • 5 of 5

The casita's situated a short distance from the Cardiff or the Encinitas beach areas, but also set a ways back from the busiest commercial zones along PCH or the I5 corridor. The property looks eastward out over Camino Real (where Trader Joe's is conveniently located), which lends it a bucolic country feel. Rancho Santa Fe's a short distance inland and affords wonderful trails for walks when the beaches are overcast. The property's well cared for and exquisitely appointed. Handsome kitchen and bathroom complete the package. Really enjoyed afternoons at the casita surrounded by sandstone cliffs, indigenous chaparral, as June marine flow often does not penetrate east-facing canyons. Would gladly return in any season.
