Our Families "Amburgey" heritage is Appalachian. Our love for the Mountains, Western North Carolina's Rivers and it's abundance of natural organic materials is reflected in our design. Enjoy
This Log home's location and title, was inspired by the oil painting, “Following The River”, by Robert Duncan.
The pictorial imagery of Native Americans on horseback crossing a wintery river's edge could secretly come to life in this uniquely tranquil, unobstructed river view. The Tuckaseeggee River’s abundant wild life and its degrees of strength, are breathtaking and worth the perch.

Location, Location, Location....
Real custom Log, Easy accesses to river,
Wow. This place goes down on my list of favorite places to be. If there were a 6-star option, I would have chosen that. My family of 6 stayed the weekend here and had a blast. There is a beautiful 2-faced fireplace that we utilized every night. The house is lavishly decorated with old books, games, American Indian decor, and art. We loved that it didn't feel sterile. It was like something out of a movie. The caretaker is very sweet and went above and beyond (including prepping the fireplaces) to make us feel comfortable. Nearby, there is a little town….if you want to get out and have a beer at the brewery, antique, or eat great food. It is the perfect place to just getaway and sip hot tea, read a book, and enjoy the beautiful views. I can't wait to plan our next visit!!!
The overall cleanliness was horrible. Cabin was cute, but when traveling with kids you want to make sure it's clean. My youngest is 4 and the first night we literally threw away a pair of socks (she was walking on an area rug in the bathroom and it was full of hair). Apparently, the family who stayed there before us had a few big dogs which did explain the dog hair everywhere but it lacks a deep cleaning. Very dusty! We also experienced issues with the electricity every night. The cabin overall description does not advise that there is a room downstairs that you have no access to which is where the electric panel is located, so essentially every day I had to call the care taker more than once to reset the panel. We literally ate in the dark for two nights since she went out of town and were afraid to lose the electricity in the back room, which is on the same switch as the kitchen lights. I have to mention that the wifi is also hooked up to this switch, so it's really hard to make calls out without the wifi. This actually has been the worse cabin I have stayed in. The owner refunded us a measly $100, which is nothing compared to what we paid for for the stay and the actual clean up fee, which to me is joke since the place needs desperate attention. The beds mattresses are old, no room to put luggage and there is no pantry space in the kitchen. Also, if you are planning on going with friends beware that the doors do not close properly. I think the only door that closed was the downstairs bathroom. Also, for those of you expecting 2 bathrooms, one of the bathrooms has a jacuzzi tub. Great if that is what you want, but if you are traveling with others and need another shower, it's not conventional, It ended up that 6 people needed to use one bathroom. They also omit the fact the home is off the highway, for light sleepers this sucks! You literally hear every car at 6am! Its a shame cause the location was great we drove back and forth to Gatlinburg and Asheville area. I felt bad cause from the pictures this looked like an amazing cabin and I am the one who picked this place.
Our family visits the area every year around Thanksgiving and this is the first time we've been disappointed with the cabin selection. Upon arrival Doris met us and gave us a tour of the cabin. During the tour we learned the back area (where hammock is located) is NOT heated and cooled, the only heat is the wood burning fireplace. This area is where the only table is located, the owner suggests closing the door or turning off central Heat/AC unit in the main cabin if using the table. The cabin does not have a porch on the back (where double glass doors are located) the front door is the only access in and out of the cabin. Doris informed us during the tour the previous occupants used most of the firewood and she would have more delivered, this never happened, we rationed and used one fireplace.
You only have access to the top two levels of the cabin, lower level is blocked off for "private quarters". If your family enjoys playing video games or watching movies, this is NOT the cabin for you!! Only one television, a 19 inch is located upstairs granted is has full satellite service but the couch was busted several months ago from children jumping on the couch, per Doris, leaving not a comfortable place to sit! Downstairs has two recliners, both are broken and won't recline. Best options for relaxing are the hammock!
Doris apologized for all the dust in the upstairs bedroom, the bed canopy, made of sticks is covered in dust! She said it was too hard for her to clean and she was afraid she'd break one of the sticks! Needless to say we didn't stay in this room!!
Two other beds are old and lumpy, comfortable enough to get thru the week! The cabin is located very close to the main road so you hear cars passing all night!
The internet service was out when we arrived, I texted Doris and she was to check with the owner and get back with us! Unfortunately, she never responded back to us and we was without internet until the last night when my husband unplugged the router and service started back up. Doris also texted the upstairs toilet didn't work blaming the guests before us, either the boys or the dog dropped something in the toilet.
Overall, I would NOT recommend the cabin! It's nasty! It's a sad situation when you cant take a bath without stink bugs floating in the water! The only positive aspect of staying here is the river!
Doris, the caretaker of the property, greeted when we arrived. She gave us an informative tour of the property and made us feel welcome. The cabin is uniquely decorated in a manner that captures the spirit of the region. The setting on the river is beautiful and provides many recreational opportunities. The location of the property was convenient to all our excursions. We definitely hope to come back to the Smokies and stay at this property!
We checked in with the "House keeper", which stays there on the property. I know that kind of is a turn off for most people and I will admit I was skeptical at first but she does not bother you at one time which is kind of comforting to have someone there if something doesn't work. Her name is Doris and I actually ended up leaving some of my personal belongings and she mailed them to me. Fishing wasn't all that great right in front of the home as we did not catch anything but there's so many places on the way to the cabin for pullover spots. The fresh air porch is awesome. The pictures of the cabin can be a little deceiving you do not have access to the lower portion of the cabin only the upper half. Overall our experience at the cabin was awesome it was worth the visit. Thank you Mrs Doris for everything.
Great location to enjoy all the attractions. Rustic cabin with all the comforts of home and a very nice caretaker.
That being said, all the beds were old and very saggy. The wifi went out several times. Getting off the property was extremely dangerous due to it being on a blind curve (busy highway) with tall hedges.
Overall 3 stars
