Beautiful Lake Front House on Lake Champlain
This large Adirondack house is located on a bluff above Lake Champlain and has wonderful views of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains of Vermont to the east.
The house was built in 1916 as the summer home of Ethel Dupont Barksdale and was later operated as the Stable Inn.
The main house accommodates a maximum of 15 people, including children. The house has three floors. The first floor includes: a living room, a dining room, a family room, a sun room, a large kitchen/butler's pantry, a laundry room, a guest bathroom and a bedroom/bath suite. The second floor includes two one-bedroom suites and one two-bedroom suite. Each suite has its own full bathroom. There is also a bedroom with bunk beds. The third floor includes a dorm room with three beds and a bathroom.
There is also a two-story cottage on the property that can accommodate up to 7 people, including children, available for an additional rental fee. It includes a kitchen, living/dining room, and bathroom on the first floor and four small bedrooms and bath on the second floor. The cottage is available for rental in conjunction with the main house. Please note that the cottage is not available during the month of August.
In addition, there is a recreation building that includes a basketball court and a pool table.
Stone steps lead to the lakefront. At the lake there is a large shed with water sports equipment. There is a deck on the lake with a slide and ladder to the water. There is also a boat dock.

Lovely gracoius home on the water
Wonderfully large home which suited our family reunion of 8 adults and miscellaneous grown kids. Lovely waterfront. Plenty of together and alone spaces with ample seating everywhere - the porch, dock, dining room, family room. Bedrooms were spacious with private baths. I'd definitely book this place again!
Great vacation home!
We always enjoy our week on Lake Champlain. This is our favorite place to stay! Beautiful view and very comfortable home. Can't wait to return next summer. I would highly recommend staying here!
Thanks for your great review Caroline. You know we love having y'all!!

The home on Lake Champlain has a fantastic setting, over-looking the water across to Vermont. Lovely and peaceful. There is ample space for a large group (ours was 11); we never even used the additional sunroom dining room. Though the description lists air conditioning, the downstairs is not air conditioned except for the small bedroom which has a window unit. The upstairs bedrooms have window units. The two kitchens are somewhat confusing; one must learn where things are and adapt to walking back and forth. Unfortunately, the home needs repair and upkeep. During our week the shower in the master bathroom was unusable due to some water source which saturated the area and dripped into one of the kitchens. Our children would not sleep in the upstairs dorm room because of bugs. On the other hand, the children thoroughly enjoyed the half basketball court and the pool table, also the large outdoor space for playing. We enjoyed a day touring in Vermont, a day in Montreal, and other short trips in the New York area. Sitting on the front porch overlooking the lake and seeing fireworks of July 4th gave us two evenings of activities.
Westport Lake House over the 4th of July week
We used the house as a family get together across 4 generations. The first floor suite worked well for the 70+ member who has difficulty with stairs. The gym building offered basketball, badminton and billards for the three pre-teens. The dock by the lake was well used by the children, although access by only a ladder may have kept the adults from swimming as much. The house is great for a queit get-away. There are sites in the area to visit, but most are about an hour's drive from the house so having a car is important. Also there isn't much in the way of food stores in Westport so I'd recommend eiher bringing the core meal staples with you or getting groceries on the way to Westport. The house has many large common so even with a large group we never felt like we were packed in or living on top of each other. The TV room is well set up for watching movies. The best feature to the house is the porch overseeing the lake. As the adults came down in the morning we spent very enjoyable time drinking coffee and chatting on the large stone porch. Even though the week we were there was mostly rainy, we still had a great time with the roomy house and the gym for the kids. I'd recommend this rental for extended family get-togethers or groups of friends (with or without children) looking for a quiet base to spend a week of vacation.
This exceptional rental exceeded expectations!
This stunning rental is located on a beautiful piece of property in Westport, NY, with a gorgeous and expansive view of Lake Champlain. The listing represents the property well, although there were actually several more rooms than shown in the pictures (a screened porch and 2nd kitchen). We had 13 people staying at the house, and it never felt crowded - the house is huge, interior clean and decorated beautifully and comfortably. It has many living spaces for relaxing, both indoor and out, and two docks on the lake. Two refrigerators accommodated all of our food and drink. This property had more to offer than I could take advantage of in a week and still have a chance to relax (indoor/outdoor games, fishing, kayaking, basketball, pool table, swimming, dvd/vcr, wireless internet).
We had really nice meals at the Westport Hotel and Tavern in Westport, and the Turtle Island Café in Willsboro, NY. We spent much of our time in Vermont; accessing it by the Lake Champlain Bridge from Crown Point, N.Y., to Addison, VT, or the Essex Ferry from Essex, NY to Charlotte, VT. We went to the Vermont Teddy Bear factory (in Shelburne, VT) with the kids and took a pun-filled and beary fantastic tour ($4/person) that shouldn't be missed. The Dakin Farm in Ferrisburg, VT is also worth a visit if you want to try/buy some fabulous Vermont food products. We visited the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes, VT. The museum teams up with the Basin Harbor Club to offer lunch at the Red Mill Restaurant, an afternoon Historic Lake Cruise on Lake Champlain aboard tour boat Escape, and admission to the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum for $29/person. It is well worth it! Fort Ticonderoga, NY, and the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, VT make for fun and informative day trips for people of all ages.
The owner is very personable and quickly responded to any questions I had. She went above and beyond the norm, and I felt very comfortable working with her. She provided a lot of amenities such as paper products, linens and towels which I am used bringing for rentals. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives, and wished we'd rented the property for two weeks instead of one! The property was a GREAT value! Be ready to feel spoiled!
